Keep up the excellent work sir!...Sir I have a question that in high fishing traffic the boats are close by, if we keep long pulse, than the targets would merge as a single target and it will give false picture of fishing traffic, and same when we are berthing, Long pulse can clutter the PPI, Can you please put some light on this??

Our main intention is to avoid collision with the fishing vessels and in heavy congested fishing traffic , you are not going to navigate the huge vessel in between the congested fishing vessels, so during such times you have to navigate with visual sightings and call master, reduce speed, blow whistle to attract attention etc. Use of radar is beneficial to identify small targets by painting them big in radar, I hope you get my point !

How to determine the x-band radar range (NM) depend upon the antenna height...? any formula...?

Their is no particular formula for it because the EM waves hits different shape of a vessel and thus sometimes it will detect and sometimes it won't, also external factors like weather cause an hindrance to determine range.

Sir, i have heard that while oil tankers are alongside terminals and undergoing cargo operation the radar power is to be reduced. Can you please throw some light over it. And do we need to keep Radar on while ship is berthed. I would be very thankful to you if you could help me with these doubts. Thankyou sir.

Radar is to be put in standby mode as soon as first line is ashore....sometimes pilot tells to put radar on standby well before FLA.

There is no such option to reduce the power of radar....it's their in VHF, AIS, NAVTEX to put in low power and MFHF should be switched off...to prevent high radiation in port
