Good video. I have been doing this same basic setup for years but with Dive Bombs as I feel they are easier to work with than having the lead flying around.

Do you stick with the same weight, per side of the boat, and just let out more line? Or can you run say an 8-ounce on the outside board and a 12-ounce weight on the inside board?

Russ, could you clarify the distance of line behind the boards? You said if you are running three 8 oz balls on one side you would have them 70-90-110 feet back. Is the 70 feet back from the inside or the outside board? Thanks.
@RussellsFishingTech3 жыл бұрын
Outside shallowest line always to the outside deepest always to the inside
@freetimeoffshore31572 жыл бұрын
Russell, I think what Laurie Knapp wants to know is how far from your weight to the board. Am I correct? When I setup, my outside board is spoon,50 ft to 1 Oz snap weight ,50 ft to planer board. Chart says 1oz,2ft line 1 ft depth. 25 ft down. What I would like to know is say on a 300 copper rig how far from your copper knot to at your backing to the board?

Great Video Russell, i have a bunch of 8 and 12 once lead balls and am going to give this a try next season. Would it be possible to give an approx depth that these setups would reach with line let out 50,100 and 150 on 50 lb braid. Thx

there isn't a depth chart for these. with that said dont focus so much on a depth just focus on repetition

Great video as always Russell. Do you need some waves for this to work optimally or will it work on a relatively flat lake (assuming we have one of those on Lake Michigan)?

Is there a dive chart available? I have looked to no avail. I understand it’s only a starting point. I have seen the 50/50 charts but that doesn’t coincide with the 17’ lead Russel mentions.

Can you run pump handle rigs of big boards with sliding release clips or are they only for use with in-line boards like the larger SST Pro Mags? I'm trying to decide between big boards and in-line boards when I rig up my boat for fishing this spring. Is there a "weight limit" that you would recommend for weight size on pump handles or other set ups like weighted steel, copper or lead core for big boards or would you just go with in-line boards all together. My only experience with planer boards (about 25 years) is with big boards on Lake Superior but never on my own boat.

Is there a benefit to running 6 Pump Handles vs 2 Leadcore, 2 dipsy Rods and 2 on downriggers? I see how this will enable you to zero in on the strike zone without having to use a lot of different gear. I was just wondering if I needed these on top of the Leadcore, dipsy rods and downriggers I already have. Thanks.
@RussellsFishingTech3 жыл бұрын
No the pumps is more of a better option for small boats then weighted lines. You can cover more of the column with pumps
@mikepeterson45033 жыл бұрын
Say you also wanted to use these for browns down 30 to 40ft what size balls would you run instead of 150coppers?

I have a question and it’s probably a dumb question.. but say I Spool a real with 10 colors do I have to always fish all of those 10 colors or is it possible to say only put out six colors clip on your planer board and fish it like that?
@RussellsFishingTech Жыл бұрын
Generally you let all the lead or copper out yes as copper or lead rubbing against Line guides while fishing will damage it
@jakejacobson2999 Жыл бұрын
@@RussellsFishingTech okay thanks. That’s what I figured but wasn’t positive.. I think I’ll just run the snap weights lol seems way more versatile

Straight out the back of the boat. Let the board fall back then increase the tension so it pulls to the side
