I was hoping you would do a video on wire divers! Great info - thank you!

My low budget hack foes an entry level wire diver rod is an Okuma Classic Pro Copper rod with a twilli tip on the end. Probably wouldn’t be good for daily use but for a few trips a year it’s been great for me for 2 seasons and only $55 in each rod.

Question for you captain Russel…. I just got two diawa greatlakes wire rods with the roller guides.. how does a guy string that thru those guides??
@markr.15473 жыл бұрын
Excellent video Russel thanks! Is there a shelf life on wire? How many years is it good for if you do periodically just cut and re tie the corkscrew (weaker) end? Does the good stuff on the reel deteriorate or weaken over time?
@RussellsFishingTech3 жыл бұрын
No it will last years
@nickb86183 жыл бұрын
Long rods are nicer if you run longer leads from ur diver to flasher to keep from having to handline to net. If I’m only running two divers the rods will be 10’6”. Only run the shorter when running double divers per side

Do you tune your wire rod setup? If so what distance do you use? 100ft 150ft 200ft?

Great videos, thank u for all the tips. Quick question with a Twilli tip set up do you still use a bead at the end like you would for a swivel tip rod?

When you happen to “ corkscrew “ the wire, and you should cut it, is there a knot, or what knot do you tie the two sections of wire together with? Is that section beyond the affected area junk, or can a knot be tied to join the two sections? ( redundant for clarity). Another Great video Russell! Thanks!!
@RussellsFishingTech3 жыл бұрын
If the wire corkscrew cut that section off. Generally it’s right by the swivel those first few feet. I wouldn’t suggest ever splicing the wire

What type of backer do you use? How many feet? On a cold water 303d
@jakerupert99193 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, great advice. Curious how much mono backer goes on the wire reels? Does it vary at all or just a standard length and the balance with wire to fill the spool?
@RussellsFishingTech3 жыл бұрын
Depending on size usually around 100 yards of mono

How far do you space your high diver to inside board? If on a 3 or 4 setting next to 300 copper.
@RussellsFishingTech3 жыл бұрын
I run my high diver on a 4 it’s not about how much you space them they only have a potential to get tangled when u get a fish on the high and it runs into the inside board line but that you can’t control
@oldmanpower3 жыл бұрын
Pardon my ignorance is a wire diver simply a rod and line counter reel with wire spooled or is there some sort of dipsy type diver for wire? Can I use wire with planar boards?
@bryantburns36643 жыл бұрын
It's only for dipsey divers. It cuts the water nice therefore reaching greater depths with less line out

Mr Russel, would you point me in the right direction, I’m looking for a track board system, using Cannon down riggers, I’m looking for a 8’ track, I’m just getting back into this, and like all your videos, if you have a store, would love to do business with you, going get rods and reels you recommend, list to you a lot, little here little there. Thanks for all your videos and help, Jeff Howard

My question is.......is there a chart for depth when using wire? I cannot figure out how far to let it back on a magnum diver to get the desired depth. There's no chart I've found and I'm new to this
@RussellsFishingTech3 жыл бұрын
At a 1.5 setting on the diver it’s about 2:1 ratio so 100ft back is 50 down

I liked wire divers...used the thru-the-loop knot thats recommended . I was careful with it in the boat and careful not to reel it up tight. I was using mag divers with big flasher n fly setups. After the second time of getting withing 4-8 feet of the boat and the wire snap off for no reason and me getting to watch $50 in gear swim to the bottom I decided to stick with braid. I feel like I just got kicked in the balls. Not just the $$ but the time n effort it takes to find and obtain said gear. I don't like being that totally pissed off when I'm really trying to enjoy the limited time I get to fish. I really don't like that feeling after all the preparation. Braid low divers for me.

What settings do you have on your divers when running two wires on each side
@andrewkenny7423 жыл бұрын
I would guess the size of your boat could be in play and how close the inside divers are to your riggers. You want as much spread between lines as you can get but on a smaller boat like my 15' I find I need my inside divers on a setting 2 to get them out away from my riggers far enough. My high divers will be set to a 3 or 3.5. Another trick to spreading lines, especially if you are using all 4 of the same diver size, would be to use the ring on the inside diver to get a more aggressive dive and spread, and don't use the ring on the high diver so it runs out a lot further back but never gets as deep. They are near impossible to tangle that way.
@RussellsFishingTech3 жыл бұрын
