Did you find out why it keeps doing no signal. Have the same problem with mine?

I would think a couple of coats of clear plastidip on the color lenses of the marquee lights would defuse it enough to not blind you but still retain a nice diffused color. And at any point you could just remove the plastidip from the lens

I'm trying to get a PIU machine but it's getting more difficult these days, I've seen an offer on ebay for an old Prex SX do you know if this is somehow upgradable to the latest software with the newer songs and everything?

It can be done, but it might be pretty involved. The computer inside the machine would likely be too old to run XX, and would need to be replaced. That part should be relatively easy, but will cost a chunk of change. The bigger problem will be the display - from what I understand, as of XX, Pump It Up no longer runs at the 640x480 resolution used by machines prior to the FX model. When I've seen display replacements done on older machines, I think it's usually by mounting a new widescreen LCD on the front of the machine and plugging that into the computer instead of the built-in CRT. This requires some hardware modifications, presumably attaching some sort of mounting brackets to the machine's frame that can hold up the LCD. The pads and the rest of the hardware should be fine though (with the normal amount of cleaning and fixing up), and replacing the display is certainly doable. If you wanted to run Prime 2 or earlier, it'd be fine with the display as-is. Just need to know what you're getting into. I haven't done a display replacement myself, so I'm guessing at a lot of the details of what it would involve. The CRT in my GX machine is nearly dead right now, and I need to either do some soldering on it or figure out how to mount a replacement...I'll probably record another video at some point doing one or the other of those things.

You end up finding a venue for your second PIU machine? Curious to see how that works out. Would potentially make a cool video series.

Sadly, I didn't. There were places that had an interest, and places that had the floor space, but no one who had both at once. The machine is sitting unused at my house right now. I'll find it a home someday.

So, you got two Pump machines and a ITG one? Or just the HDD and the pads? Didn't know that Prime 2 HDD would work on a MK9.
@adiener6 жыл бұрын
Yup. MK9 is the latest and is what ships with Prime 2. I've heard it'll even work on an MK6, though I don't know how well exactly.

Great job with the cleaning and troubleshooting. For dimming the lights you could use neutral density lighting gel. It comes in sheets, and is used for theatre lights, and it is heat resistant. (There ought not to be anything flammable in a halogen light fitting!). That tilt on the screen would drive me nuts! You would need to physically rotate the deflection coil yoke on the tube to correct it. Here is a rough guide kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGPZlXp7hbWCg8k but be super careful as the tube neck is delicate, never force anything or touch any of it while it is powered. If you don't feel confident about doing it, it might be best to leave it. In a previous job I replaced many monitor CRT's so I know it's fiddly!

Good call on the flammability - I hadn't actually thought about that at all. I'll definitely have to see if the lights get hot at all. Adjusting the CRT tilt sounds kinda scary. Probably not going to mess with it too much. I looked up the service manual, and I think I found out how to change the horizontal and vertical size, so at least I'll be able to see everything. Apparently there's a little panel with menu/up/down buttons inside the operator door that I've always just overlooked.
