I learned about this in child development. When an infant gets introduced into a family but the mother didn’t give birth the body of the mother can still adapt for the baby because of the genetic instinct for a female to be a mother and they can start producing milk. It’s very intriguing to learn about. Edit: Please stop with the hateful comments. I only said what I saw and commented about it as it fascinates me. For the most part she probably does produce her milk using medicine induced methods, but what I said can still happen and has happened before. Please take classes on these things or do your research before writing down hateful comments because you believe there is only one way to produce milk if the baby isn't theirs. There are multiple different ways and you need to have an open mind to see it.

This condition is known as galactorrhea. Galactorrhea can be caused by various factors, including hormonal imbalances, certain medications, thyroid issues, or stimulation of the breasts. In some cases, individuals who are not pregnant or have never been pregnant may be able to induce lactation through specific methods. This is often seen in situations where an individual desires to breastfeed an adopted baby or in same-sex couples. The process typically involves hormonal therapy and frequent breast stimulation, such as through pumping or suckling, to stimulate milk production.

Breastfeeding or pumping never worked out with my first. With my second pregnancy, I had twins and thought for sure I wouldn’t be able to. I found out I would have to deliver at least 4 weeks early and there had been numerous complications during my pregnancy that made me worry. My doctors nurse gave me several breast is best pamphlets near my due date and said breast milk would be best to help them with any problems they may have. ***For the record, I have nothing against formula feeding. I am pro fed, not pro one over the other! My then 1 year old had been mainly formula fed.*** I didn’t see it at the time but she was obviously pushing her opinions on others and I reported her to my OB who told me there were several other similar complaints filed and that the nurse had been let go immediately after the third complaint came in since it was in a two day period. -back on topic - So I went into the hospital with Mother’s Milk tea, fenugreek and these oatmeal balls that had something else in them that was supposed to be good for helping with you milk supply packed in my hospital bag. I drank the tea 3 times a day (I found it tasted less gross with lots of sugar and milk and iced, and made sure to drink it within 10 minutes or whatever the box said). It took me about 18 hours to get to my room after surgery, and the first thing I did (after getting approval from the doctor!) drink a cup of tea, take the fenugreek, eat and oatmeal thing and wait for my husband to get to my room with the breast pump. The nurse showed me how to use it properly, what size pump cup things I would need, and then gave me a second set of parts the hospital had so we didn’t have to immediately wash parts, since I would be pumping every two hours. Let me tell you, on day 3 my milk came in with a vengeance! My breasts were huge and rock hard! I went from a B to a DDD. I was pumping 80+ oz a day when they were about 10 days old. I was actually able to build up a milk stash. It’s also important to get enough to eat and drink. I always had at least a bottle of water and a protein bar every time I pumped. Oh, and you’ll want nipple butter. No matter if you pump or breast feed, your nipples will wind up hurting. A lot of people will say to try this other stuff, I think it starts with an L, but that stuff is sticky and doesn’t work as well at easing the pain and healing your nipple. That’s my experience anyway. The other stuff might work for you! But for everyone I’ve recommended the nipple butter to, they’ve much preferred it over the L stuff. I looked it up. It’s Lanolin that is usually what it recommended, but Earth Mama Nipple Butter was amazing, and it’s organic if you’re into that (which I was).

Which side gives more or less milk can fluctuate for me, but I also have more or less at times, depending on how recently I might’ve already pumped or how much water/liquid I’ve been drinking. It seems like specifically nursing more frequently now has also been having an effect on my milk production - naturally. I use Medela pump supplies that I was given by the hospital where I delivered my baby, and I really like and prefer using their crank-style hand pump (I would like to try using a hands-free pump soon).

It’s a process called induced lactation. There are a few ways it can be achieved, but the most common and most successful is through a combination of pharmaceuticals and manual stimulation of the mammary glands. Usually people wanting to induce lactation will take medications such as medroxyprogesterone, chlorpromazine, and metoclopramide. These are hormone-mimicking drugs which trick the brain into thinking that you are pregnant, and thus start producing milk. This is actually fairly common not only in same-gender couples but also among people who adopt infants. :)

@@trisarahtops1092 Is there a way to do it more naturally?
@trisarahtops1092
@trisarahtops1092 Жыл бұрын
@@juliwny7031 Yes and no. Some people manage to induce lactation solely through physical stimulation. This usually involves massage and pumping for many, many months before the baby arrives. But the success rate for those who solely use physical stimulation is much lower. Some people also have success including lactation through the use of herbs plus stimulation. This includes things like goat’s rue and borage. This is because, much like the prescribed medications, they’re high in certain chemicals which mimic hormones and can trick the brain into thinking it’s pregnant. But they tend to be less successful because they’re not as concentrated as the pure form in the medications.

I'm so triggered lol 😭. I was pregnant with twins. I did absolutely EVERYTHING I could. I read about 10 different books on lactation and when they were born my milk never came in. I saw every expert you can think of. I had them breastfeed, then gave them formula and followed up with the pump, THEN hand expressed. I drank the tea, took the supplements. I was so freaking distraught. ONE time only, I managed 20 ml. The vast majority of the time I was splitting a few drops between each bottle. I talked to my mom every day about it. At 6 weeks, I made the gut wrenching decision to stop trying. The process was taking me 45 min minimum and by the time I was done, there was 30-45 min before I needed to start again. When I called my mom sobbing about being a bad mom with broken tiddies she says "well, all 4 of you were bottle fed and you're fine." I was shocked bc she never mentioned it at all. She followed up with "yeah, didn't I ever tell you? I never got any milk in either and neither did your grandmother". Literally 6 weeks of anguish and sleep deprivation could have been avoided.

This is why it's soooo important to talk to your parents and children so that we know what our medical history is like. @ShoCa thank you. I wish I'd had a good friend back then who had said those words to me. I wish I could say this was the first or last time it happened. I have chronic autoimmune diseases, one of which resulted in permanent damage to my joints. As a kid she brushed it off as growing pains and since she didn't advocate for me, doctors didn't either. She understands now that what she did was wrong, but it took me having to be on chemo to subdue my immune system for it to really click with her. She finally told me we had diabetes in the family too, which is good because I've been able to monitor the girls. The eldest twin fainted in my arms and had a small seizure. Thankfully because she finally told me something ahead of time, I knew exactly what to do. The best I can do is not beat myself up for what I didn't know and to never allow anyone to dismiss my children's pain or symptoms. It took me a while to forgive. I had to remind myself that my mom is still learning, at the age of 72, how to be a good parent. Her parents were severe alcoholics who beat the crap out of her every day. My mom was an alcoholic for a long time. But she finally quit in order to save our relationship. She's learned forgiveness, patience, responsibility, compassion and how to be a good mom and a great grandmother from me. That's all I can ask from her is to keep learning. She's an amazing, loving grandmother and to my husband she is the proud, loving and supportive parent I wish she had been to me. It's enough for me that she's good to them.

You also sound like you love your girls. You never stop learning how to parent, and every day, there are new things to learn. Everyday won't be happy, but I hope your lives are filled with happiness and joy and good times

I’ve never been able to pump more than an ounce and I’ve been pregnant and given birth twice. Lol Breast milk is a wonderful gift that I’m glad you get to give to your baby. You’re both doing an amazing job! 💕

I couldn't produce enough either. US healthcare is terrible and super expensive so I never bothered with figuring out why. Even if I discovered an underlying condition I couldn't afford to do anything about it.

@@jaymelang9610 same! Nearly a decade past my first breastfeeding experience and I’ve recently been diagnosed with PCOS so insulin resistance was probably the cause of my issues. There’s no way they can really treat PCOS so I’m still out of luck in the milk department, even with a diagnosis unfortunately. Thankfully, I was able to breastfeed my youngest for almost 2 years with the help of supplementing. I’m so thankful for formula and milk donors!

Same 😢 I’ve had to supplement with formula.. With my first 2 I thought it was because they were preemies 32&30 weeks.. but even with my youngest who was full term.. well 36 weeks.. I’ve never made it the whole 40 lol… I still didn’t produce more than an ounce

How can you make more milk, I too have 2 children 8 years apart, and the most milk I ever could give was 10-20ml from each breast at best for 6 months topping with formula so they didn't starve. I thought I tried everything, but if there is any new advice in the last 9 years as I am now pregnant with 3rd, and I wish I could successfully feed at least 1 of them in my life time. 😅😊

You can take medications that induce lactation so some people can be successful in producing milk even if they have never been pregnant, however it is not successful for everyone.
