Pumping gas from a wheelchair can be difficult, so most people have others pump gas for them. However, I like being independent and prefer pumping my own gas. This is how I pump gas into my 2015 Toyota Sienna van with a VMI conversion. Let me know in the comments how you pump gas!

Kudos to you on pumping your own gas. I live in New Jersey where they pumped the gas for you, so I'm super fortunate. But when I lived in Atlanta typically the two gas stations that I went to the owners would pump the gas for me on the self-serve side and not charge me extra. But again great job on pumping your own gas.👍🏾👍🏾 But as you continue your journey Pick and choose your battles that takes a lot of energy. And I get it might take me longer, but I'll get it done. But where are you can get help ask for it you have nothing to prove👍🏾

Been there and done that my brother and I truly understand the desire of independence. But there come you have to weigh out. Am I trying to be independent or am I trying to be affective at whatever my task is. You not putting out a lot of energy when you don't have to. Even more so if you encounter bad weather. Please believe me I am not trying to discourage you from being independent. I'm so used to using a manual chair. I've learned through the years to choose my battles. Keep doing what you do and just know you have nothing to prove.👊🏾

@Blackandgoldsteelnation I agree. One thing I weighed out is using a power wheelchair over a manual wheelchair.
@Rahchasportstalk
@Rahchasportstalk 4 ай бұрын
If you have the ability to use a manual, start working out in one, you always have your power chair but there's nothing like constantly making every muscle in your arms to have to try and trigger to move your wheelchair then includes your wrist function, your triceps, and your biceps and your shoulder function it all has to be involved. Talk to the seating clinic and go play around in some chairs. I will say pushing up the ramp to your van can be challenging at times. But you can use a manual around the house and use your power chair when you leave out, and if you ever get a manual chair, be sure to have armrest you will need them. Trust me if you have more than enough, upper body, strength, and an arm function to push a manual chair then get the pushing one. This is all about the long-haul.👍🏾 and stay on top of your weight shifts even if you just lean forward side to side, that's a weight shift. Got it.👊🏾

I wish employers saw this video and would be encouraged to hire disabled people more. You did a really informative but quick enough (for the average short attention spanned person) job with explaining and showing how someone with your disability could still perform a task.
@masonx54
@masonx54 Жыл бұрын
I agree, and I think people with disabilities (that actually do something with themselves) automatically have a better work ethic because it takes us more effort to do the same task as an able-bodied person. Personally, I have a great work ethic and can outwork most people. Thank you for watching and commenting.

@@masonx54 One of my friends is blind and him and I talk about this all the time... how the average disabled person would be twice as good, if not better than the average able bodied employee specifically because of what you just mentioned. People judge way too quickly and make their own assumptions about what disabled people can or can't do. This disability advocacy/awareness/education stuff is very close to my heart and I think you're doing a great job. I battle with myself all the time on the most effective approach to take to make people more inclined to 'care' about something that doesn't directly affect them currently.

Hi Mason. Another great video. I noticed those leg guards in the front of your wheelchair. That looks like a very good safety equipment. What are those called and how can someone acquire that for their wheelchair?
@masonx54
@masonx54 2 ай бұрын
I appreciate that! The knee guards are mainly for preventing my legs from collapsing so I can stand using my wheelchair's standing feature. However, they also prevent me from falling out of my wheelchair and help keep my body inline. You can see me talk about the knee guards in my wheelchair review video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2bbgYSgfZtkobs Thank you for watching and commenting!

Awesome, I'm glad my video gave you an idea. It works really well. However, the first card I did it to, the card cracked from the hole to the outside of the card from pulling on it. So much. So this time, I put the whole closer to the center of the card.
