Best video yet on pump vs paddle! I am convinced the flat water pump practice is key. I have the 1750 leviathan on a 6’8” white bird 115 L. I can paddle but my pump is lacking. Between this video and your super helpful comments I am going to focus much more on pumping without the paddle. Great stuff for those flat days! Thank you and wing foil pro center for great gear and support!

Thanks Gwen for such a wonderful inspiration. I just recently started SUP foiling after 10 years of SUP surfing experience and struggling with take off. From my background I was relying too much on paddling, especially in paddling straight, without recognizing the importance of pumping techniques. Your videos are very informative and inspiring🎉 I will follow all your relevant videos from Japan! Thanks😊

Great video Gwen 👍🙌🔥 Will share it to my beginners crew ! Thank you 🙏 An idea for the next one : a slow motion highlighting the forward jump movement of the back foot to transfer the body over the foil again after the ressource phase of the foil 🤙

Would be interesting to have this type of experiment with wing pumping vs foil pumping on a wingfoil setup

Great vid! You clearly showed pumping is more important. Hope to try DW someday. I will practice with the wing board.

Paddling alone requires a fast planing hull. Like a slalom race board planing tail . a displacement hull works much better for the pumping dynamics while in the water. A combination of the 2 hull designs is what’s being applied in the custom world. Gradual but pronounced forward rocker Great skills 🎉Gwen .

Thks great feedback… I ll try tonight !!! Can prone / sup foil but still struggle big time to DW in the bumps at every attempt ! Can’t get the paddling timing right and wasn’t pumping enough also…

Thanks for this, an eye opening video. How do you rate the lateral and torsional stiffness of the M73P/W1750 combo to other setups/brands you used for flatwater pump up? Would you advise to start with a high aspect wing (like 1750) or a medium aspect like the W1250 - both have the same surface area?

Nice demo, Gwen! Would love to see how fast you pop up with that monster of a foil in a combination...?

Another perfect video, thank you 🙏 Just got a 8’2 kt dragon fly and uni 83cm mast with hyper 170. Saving for a bigger front wing but now I hope I can at least practice paddle ups with Marine traffic. What’s the smallest you have been able to sup/pump flat water start?

Haven’t tried pumping up (no paddle) any other foil than that one. If you ever need gear, feel free to reach out to us through the shop and we can help you there: wingfoilprocenter.com

Hi, great video! I see you are on the 100l Dragonfly. How much do you weight? Because I am also looking to get a dragonfly for winging+flat water sup foiling at a weight of 80 kg dry. Normally i am out winging with a 85l board so i am thinking to get the 100 or 105 liter dragonfly but I am not sure. I hope you maybe have a good advice :) Thank you!

Epic thanks! Really good insight i have been flogging the paddle but with wrong/poor pumping. Attempted pumping only on the kujira 1440/dragonfly last week and literally was not moving forward in the water😂 can prone pump loops and skate ollie ok etc but flatwater DW pump fail! Is it the foil that creates the forward motion pumping initially or the board itself rocking motion/foot drag? Thanks again this content is gold!

U ask Gwen but my opinion: If u see vids of riggs u can see the lift the Board is giving. first u paddle to mid speed then u start pumping and increase the stroke. I just manage to paddle up in flat water on the Lake. In windbumps and chop i feel so much wobble, it gets me allways falling...? and my foil is little bigger 1700m2, helps alot!

Great video, thanks for that. Do you think that pumping is possible with a GO Foil RS 1300 ?
@DamienLeroyYouTube4 ай бұрын
Yes for sure! The P1300 and P1500 are better for pumping though: wingfoilprocenter.com/products/gofoil-p1300?_pos=1&_psq=P1300&_ss=e&_v=1.0

what other foils can you pump up with no paddle? you make it look so easy but that's a pretty special foil. it's hard to gauge if this stuff transfers to other foils that are smaller or if just for these monster foils
@DamienLeroyYouTube4 ай бұрын
Like I said in the video, the reason for using such a big foil for this test is that with a smaller foil, just paddling and just pumping wouldn’t work. So we wouldn’t be able to compare as none work. The principle remains the same with any foil size, but with smaller foils, you need both, pumping and paddling together. Probably 60% pumping, 40% paddling. But 100% of either one wouldn’t work to get up. Point is, we see many people working too hard on the paddle, and ignoring the biggest part of the equation, a proper pumping technique.

Great video! Just to understand how it works and put all together, paddling with back foot pressure would ease take off?
@DamienLeroyYouTube4 ай бұрын
When learning, back foot pressure makes the foil stall, it's like putting on the brakes. Front foot pressure keeps the nose down, to pick up more speed and take off

Hi, Gwen and Damiel I am looking into getting a QuickBlade paddle an but not sure which model to use, Ono Ava or Stingray, can you please advise? 🙏 Current level beginner/intermediate I weight 70k and the current board is a 7'2 x 18'' x 110l, the foil I will be mostly using for now is 1000cm with AR12
@DamienLeroyYouTube2 ай бұрын
The 72 Stingray would be a good one for you, I would recommend to get it an inch under your height: wingfoilprocenter.com/products/quickblade-stingray-72-sup-foil?_pos=3&_psq=Stingray&_ss=e&_v=1.0
@bohdanafanasyev36422 ай бұрын
@@DamienLeroyKZbin thank you, do you recommend go inch lower just for this specific model, or at the end you figured out it just works better for you. Asking since I am trying to experiment a bit with the paddle I currently have Starboard Lima M size (adjustable) before making an order 🙂

interesting video! but, got a bit confused... how to apply these learnings to wing foil? dw boards are becoming popular... but, that is for takeoff speed... and, in this demo, speed was... less important ? 🤔

Hi, i have a similar set up . How far forward in the foil box to you have your foil and why?
@DamienLeroyYouTube4 ай бұрын
Forward for early lift, but if you can’t keep the nose down and make it stall, you have to move it back. Mast position can vary depending on the riders technique so there isn’t a position that ultimately is the “right” position
@MartialArtUK4 ай бұрын
@DamienLeroyKZbin thank you , atm I have it full back I can catch and ride waves but yet able to pump up on foil without waves , I will try moving it forward to reduce the crazy swing I'm experiencing at the moment it feels like I'm trying to pump a banana 😄

The foil needed for no paddle no hands has to be big, so not as fun downwinding with a massive foil
