Pumpkin Earrings - Brick Stitch - Bead Weaving - Halloween

Brick Stitch is one of the bead weaving basics that is so versatile! It's a suer stitch to have in your "beading bank" - great if you're wanting to bead a specific shape - perhaps something that is asymmetrical like an animal, character or plant / flower.
In this demo, we're taking on Halloween - but fun time Halloween (nothing scary to see here) with these cute earrings. You will not only learn the fundamentals of brick stitch, but you'll also learn how to increase and decrease your rows to attain the desired shape.
I've created the pumpkins in regular, round Size 8/0 seed beads as it's far easier to show you the techniques when using slightly larger beads. But you could make them in any sized seed bead that you have in your stash. Delicas would work really well too - owing to their perfect cylindrical shape they stack beautifully, just like bricks!
You'll need just 3 colours: orange for the pumpkin, black for the features and green for the stalk...

I’m still confused about one thing on the increase rows. On adding the last bead of the row, you pick up a bead and go down the bead on the row below. Here’s what I don’t understand - why can’t you just go back up, to the left, into the new bead? I understand why you’re going up two beads over to the right, so you end up coming up out of the new bead on the end to start the new row, but wouldn’t it be the same thing to just go up the new bead to the left after you added it? I hope I’m explaining it clearly!! Do you understand what I’m confused about? It’s a really cute pattern and I do thank you for sharing it. I just still get confused with brick stitch… 💜

Hi Sharon...I think I understand what you're asking and you could do as you say....but...you'd then have thread visible around the outside of the bead that you've passed down through. That in itself is fine - if you're happy to see thread on the outer edge. My advice would be for you to try it and see if you're okay with it. Now it's my turn to ask if you understand what I've just said?! ;-) x
