A movie I first learned about while researching Alien Resurrection and reading Joss Whedon say "I never wrote anything in the script about them fighting a big Pumpkinhead looking monster." - Pumpkinhead is the directorial debut of Stan Winston, and indeed the Newborn Xenomorph bears a striking resemblance to the titular monster, Pumpkinhead. With the tail and the curve of Pumpkinhead's chin, it could be surmised it's design was partially inspired by the Xeno, but that's neither here nor there. It's a movie about teens dying! AMAZING!

Keep away from Pumpkinhead, unless youre tired of living... His enemies are mostly dead, hes mean and unforgiving, Bolted doors and windows barred... Guard dogs prowling in the yard...Wont protect you in your bed... Nothing will ...from Pumpkinhead!

I think I remember an interview with Stan Winston and it was mentioned that part of the mythos for the creature was that the summoner could not commit suicide, that either someone had to kill the summoner or Pumpkinhead would kill the summoner after all of the marked were dead ending the Pumpkinhead killing spree.

The best bit of trivia about this movie - Lance Henriksen went full method, even getting fake teeth and buying a bunch of the props in his shop and house out-of-pocket to help characterize Ed better. And the best line - "God damn you... God *damn* you!" "He already has, son. He already has."

After watching it I ran across this video, and it was my first time here, and I gotta say I never would have thought anyone could make the movie humorous... but you made me laugh pretty hard with your comments! Good job! I think I'll subscribe! Haggis: "I can't bring the dead back to life, Ed Harley. But for your convenience I have this lovely demon called Vengeance, that I can give you at the discounted rate of your soul". Ed: "do you offer a lay-away plan? "

Pumkinhead is actually one of my most favorite horror movies. The creature effects stand up to today's practical effects since Stan Winston made them. The facial impressions of Pumkinhead were very impressive! You know how Lance Hendrikson's character became more demon-like but did you also notice when that happened, actually, right after she used the Flamethrower, Pumpkinhead's face became more human-like! God, if Stan Winston was alive today, imagine what he could do with Pumkinhead now with 3D Printing and all the new tech we have. I'm talking practical effects. CG effects could look good, but honestly, I'm so in love with Pumkinhead!

2:35 That dog Mushroom also starred in COLD DOG SOUP from 1989, a vehicle for Frank Whaley, and Christine Harnos, whom played Rimmer, in Hellraiser 4 ! The Pumpkin-Head monster looks more like an extraterestrial creature and not a demon from hell. Maybe because they're similar to the Alien in the Alien movie. Stan Winston from Pumpkinhead was involved in designing the Alien. He wasn't involved with designing Pumpkinhead's suit, but he had people that had worked with him previously design it. I am not sure if the consecrated ground thing was shout down. The church they used was burned down, which by definition, would make the ground unhallowed. It's probably why the writers had the demon approach the church so slowly and even go so for as to test the cross before going on the attack. Like you said, the editing always made this movie hard to watch but the story telling was top notch.

Amani Bob You also have to remember that this was in the 1980's. No cell phones, and mountain folk like them don't have phones. It may seem ridiculous to some, but bring from the south myself and bring related to actual Hill people who still don't have cell phones/land lines or running water and electricity, this could actually be a plausible scenario, you know, if a mountain witch summoned a revenge seeking demon 😂

Mary Burdette My point is: Picking a frickin leader got three killed, then following a random kid to into a ruined church was kinda suicidal... If knowing that, ( if alone), the monster: "?" cannot kill two person at once, then, two going on oposite direction is a good idea to try. After that sh*t failed, ('cause teleportation skill in horror movies), then following that up with the idea of choosing the same direction, but going on, ( at least), three DIFFERENT lines/path to stay as small/hard/difficult a target no matter what. This a perfect example of "survival by odds or multiple choices of movement". If one of you is able to go on, you CAN WIN as long as you are not the one being stopped, but "?" is not winning until and ONLY until none of your group is remaining. If "?" is being stopped, then "?" is either looking, going after or killing a "friend", so that's too bad, but get it? One dead, others plus you still lives. Better than you doing: "nothing" and "fu*k all"..." Pragmatism son! If you're on your own, but all going on a same direction, then all but one are on a"not dead" path, so better run while able. Being killed is sure for at best two friends, at worst all of y'all, (since it must happen twice before you can detect a pattern), but with up to a "five-to-six" ratio, you can be anything from first cadaver, the final kill, or if you've done the smart thing to each go your separate way towards a same goal, thus doubling the odds each time, you can make it. It's not a "friend do matter" and "loves will conquer all" strategy, but it's a "win if winning is a possibility" kind of strategy. It has been proven to work for sending supplies/men over deadly lines or lethal situations, like crossing an occupied city, or roads with random IEDs "..." Simple: Get the enemy to pick a number of routes, then use multiples of that number simultaneously, so that with one loss, you've got two+ wins behind, just before, or alongside.INSTEAD, going about it one at a time is a coin toss every time, with50/50 odds, going on the principle that some sh*t will go down at each time or not... Like playing Russian Roulette, sixty times. Ps: If a horror movie was done right, then most protagonists would get a hint, like a house on fire, or a giant mo-fo from hell and then, they'd each go home, or a pick a direction to run away, instead of the bad guy killing them at most in a two/three miles radius no problems. So that way, the bad guy is a killing machine 'till, at the end, it's nerfed to the point of stumbling over his/it's own frickin feet before being "ze killed"..." Then, bring on the sequels...

I always like Pumpkinhead as a monster its a monster that is obviously inhuman but has all the cruelty a person can muster.

It may be bad, but the story is actually really interesting. That and it holds a special place in my heart because it scared the holy shit out of me when I was a little girl. Anytime I watch it now I get the nostalgic shivers when I see Pumpkinhead in the frame of the church doorway.

...internal hemorrhaging, yeah, I think considering the sticks they're in kind of gives the inference that medical and hospital care would have been a very long drive. Ed's son would have been dead before even reaching help. Going home might have been a touch kinder. The choppy editing might be because the movie emphasizes disconnected feeling of shock and horror.

That would be awesome seeing Decker review the Warlock movies. I've always seen Warlock: the Armageddon as kind of a reboot rather than a sequel. Kind of like Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance where it has the same actor playing the lead role despite the movie making no connections to what happened in the first movie.

I know you said you won't do the Halloween series for this October, but I do hope you tackle the films at some point. But maybe you at least could look at Halloween III: Season of the Witch, as it really is a standalone movie by itself.

Esau Pyramid I completely agree with you. Truth is, word of mouth was what really killed that film and the franchise's potential. Everyone loved Michael Myers so much that when they first saw this in theaters, the fans bitched that it sucked because Michael was not in it. As a result, not many went to see it and those that did (critics included) did not give it a chance and savaged it because it was not a Michael Myers movie. And its a shame because I'm sure John Carpenter could've done something amazing with the franchise like Creepshow or Masters of Horror. :-/
