This is the very first NES version of Punch-Out!! It was a Japanese-exclusive title that could only be won in a contest - it's a pretty nifty novelty piece with some interesting differences from the US versions, so I'd thought I'd share :)

@@Gen965 The license was over. And also by the time the license was over, Tyson lost his championship to Buster Douglas at the time so Nintendo find no point in renewing his name. Everyone thought it was due to his rape allegation. But the end of his license happened before that.
@CarbyGuuGuu3 жыл бұрын
@@Gen965 License expired because he was getting too expensive. Punch-Out!! never started with Mike Tyson to begin with, he was just a guest opponent who can only be accessed through a password. The franchise started with a simple arcade game which then got a sequel. Finally, we got the Famicom version which added Tyson in the Western release. Replaced with Mr. Dream after the license expired.

Don Flamenco 2 has a star punch opening to the belly as he jabs. Get 3 and you can stop him in 1 round. When you use the last star hit, make sure that you combo into it or he probably will dodge it. If he dodges the last star, he might escape the 1st round... Whenever Super Macho Man pauses to spin punch, you hit him to the head for a star, hit him again and he'll block, hit him again and you'll get another star. This is the pattern and you should have enough time to get at least 2 stars before he does his spin punch(es). Piston Honda 2 has the same weakness when he pauses to stall for time. So, if a person cannot get the belly KO punch right, follow the pattern stated and you can still get him in 1 round. On Sandman, you can get an extra punch to the head on him when he begins to do his moving hooks. It requires some kind of speed to pull off consistently. Hit him as you normally would. Then, try and hit him one too many times. He will try to hit you when you do that and he's incredibly fast Dodge this punch and hit him. Repeat. Doing this, I have gotten him down 2 plus times. You can also time you punches to the belly and get a 1st rd TKO, but never got that right. I learned something about Soda Popinski. This makes him easy to beat in 1 round. Used to be, if I got 1 star and did not lose that star, I could do it.
@batofdestiny6 жыл бұрын

It's odd that they wouldn't use it in Japan, firstly since Japan usually lets more content fly that we tend to find questionable, especially back then, and secondly all the remarks Soda makes that point to alcohol. I can understand his name getting changed in the American home ports, but I always thought his name went unchanged in Japan, at least in the Famicom release.
