I wouldn't call myself a clinch fighter. But I definitely like being in the pocket. 1: because of my wrestling and grappling preferences, and 2: I had a good boxing coach that used mitts and built up my "in the pocket" ability(footwork, head movement). I'm not quite as efficient as I was then, but my confidence is up, and I have the understanding.
@liamcage7208

I find this topic really interesting. I have always thought of the clinch as an offensive strategy. I've been taking Judo to add to my clinch repertoire (they really do own the clinch in my opinion - its hard to strike when you're being pulled off balance) but there is still the matter of getting to it when striking. I'm 6'5" tall and I'm always sparring shorter guys. I don't want to give up my reach advantage so I usually wait for my opponent to initiate the clinch. I would love to be more proactive and be the guy who initiates it, tall guys can really dominate in that position as long as you can counter their body lock.

@@perrenchan6600 You're literally the Cathy Newman meme: "So you're saying..." followed by something I definetly wasn't saying. Jiu Jitsu is still effective in itself. You don't need KB to make your JJ work. WC in the other hand is pointless. It doesn't work against resisting opponents. That's why the only things WC apologists can point to are people who used to do WC, but in fights use standard KB, MT and boxing etc.

That shifting near side underhook, along with quarter Nelson's and bar arms and the Dutch trap (punch past the guard and drag it down on the retraction), are some of my favorite ways to hit to hold, and hold and hit 😉 As a.... Less vertical guy? do you use any of Daniel Cormier's bar arm/upjab/high crotch game?
