I was lucky to be born with the ability to throw a mean right hand lol. I learned this being bullied until I was like 10 threw a right hand and knocked my bully out cold. Then started training boxing and MMA now I’m about to make my pro debut

Tyson without his coaches, d'Amato in particular, would not have made it so early and so long. With Cus for a couple more years, he'd have conquered all belts without any competition ever. A diamond still needs refinement.

Great. I am a speed boxing guy. But I trained recently a lot of light to 10 over kg weights using one hand on each side and it helped the core a lot. Sitting up with weights and punching with weights.

Let me correct something here, with all due respect. This sentence "puncher are born their are not made" this sentence belongs to Teddy Atlas not Cus d'Amato Cus d 'Amato when he was asked about Mike Tyson power talked about "Abilities to punch" . Just a little precision but it's always good to hear you talking we learn a lot . Best regards. Antone.

Thank you coach. What about punch mechanics? Can you explain "pulling" vs "pushing" punches? You talked about wave in Russian boxing coming from feet to hand, can you tell us more? Is a powerful punch about speed / kinetic energy or weight momentum or stiffness? Some people punch fast eg like Amir Khan but it has not much impact, maybe it does no have enough weight behind it?, while others have "heavy" hands like George foreman swinging an axe has momentum or is it weight behind it, while Tank Davis looks to have speed and weight increadible explosive power. Ryan Garcia has speed and its enough Ko many opponents. What does it mean i"weight behind punch"? What is "snap" or "pop" in punch, is that about creation stiffness and weight trasfer? Why do large people often hitt harder , is it their mass and their stiffness, the reaction force? Thanks Coach 👍

Tyson had a lot of potential. Physics will always come into play, no matter what. Tyson weighs 275 pounds and has a potential to be one of the hardest punchers ever. Really. That much weight behind a punch will KO anyone. Sugar was able to teach Tyson the technique to use his natural characteristics.

@@funkrates4778 Tyson is good, but feel people are getting a little bit to crazy on him. I don't see the potential for becoming one of the best punchers. Like the Russian explained in the video, there are so many things other then weight coming into play with punch power, fast twitch muscle fiber. coordination, speed, technique, and so on. Earnie shavers just died, best puncher of all time they say, he wasn't that big.

@@rubenaerts7284 Maybe. We’ll see. He’s the biggest and heaviest heavyweight out there, been boxing since he was a kid. Sugar Hill has taught him a lot. I suppose we’d have to see him fight someone with a granite chin at heavyweight but I don’t know who that would be.

If you have power or heavy hands its not as fun as it sounds, outside of competition there is an issue of training. If people in your weight class perceive you as a hard puncher they might try to put more power into the shots they throw at you. To the extent they may actually be intentionally trying to hurt you regardless if you have any intentions of hurting them or not. Training with higher weight classes it seems to become less of an issue because a heavier opponent is usually more confident in their power advantage. Just my experience, I'm not an expert like the gentleman in the video, I just think it's something that may come with the reputation worth understanding

He'a defining puncher as the kinda dude who punches like a brick shithouse getting dynamited. He also points out that different types of people can become knockout artists, though how this looks may vary wildly depending on your immutable characteristics. Hearns, Foreman, Tyson, Inoue, Beterbiev, Golovkin, Hagler, Marciano, Payakaroon, Lomachenko, Arguello, Jackson, etc all have lists of opponents who didn't see the final bell. They didn't all have the same means to that end. Hearns was famously not noted for KOs until his latent potential was recognised and developed by Emmanuel Steward, and he probably wouldn't thrive on a peekaboo style of power punching either.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. But that has nothing to do with what he said in the video. If you know about muscle and muscle groups you would understand. That's why some people are more athletic than others, run faster, jump higher, etc...

i respectfully advise reading up a bit on highlevel sprint training: there are strong parallels there, you simply can't reach the pinnacles without both the correct genetics and hard training、you can get somewhere with one, or one and a half. if you think about it logically, great punchers must be born not made, or the Tysons, Inoues, Listons wouldnt stand out so much
