I second Gabe on bearing spacers. They keep me from crushing bearing shields when tightening the nut. I like my wheels not having any wiggle at all as long as they roll at full speed. They also make the wheels feel more like a unit.

Couple things. 1st why not take the washers out of your trucks before removing the wheels? Then take out the bushings? 2nd, 1 set of $130 dollar bearings could last longer than 6.5 sets of 20$ bearings if you're willing to clean them regularly. 20$ bearings last 5-6 weeks and they're done. Swiss 60$ can be cleaned and be like new every 2-3 months. I have a set of bones swiss that have lasted me 3 years. I have a set of bronson ceramics that are going on 7 months.

The spacers help the fit of the bearing. I am pretty sure it’s to help reduce drag or friction on by making a little space for a smoother roll. I am not an Engineer just making a guess.

the small washers are there to prevent abrasive actions on the Hangar and the Nut. And.. maybe the shielding of the bearings could interfear with the parts of the trucks. Its not that i,mportant, but its the reason there are there!
