Really? This guy shows a great knowledge and learning of what? I mean, he is affable enough for someone who talks casually of sexual assault and battery. He seems more interesting than the boring music he makes... But erudite? You just get a word of the day calendar? Christopher Hitchens, Jaron Lanier, Chomsky... These people are "erudite". Merle Allin is as knowledgeable as any old c*nt who lived a life.

I am slowly trying to wean myself off codeine and its real hell, a real struggle. I am waiting to hear from a detox clinic so right now im on my own with this, and im telling you part of my therapy right now is soft white underbelly. It is a huge source of help, relief and wisdom. I met him and Dino playing at a bar with Hank III about 15 years ago and was pretty drunk. Those guys were the nicest guys I ever met and most tolerant of drunks. During that phase I was trying to be a cleancut state employee so I probably looked like a drunk guy who had no idea who they were, but catching the Hated in America documentary almost 15 years before that at the Dobie in Austin launched my own decade of rock and roll debauchery. I had a GG bumper sticker on my Hyundai for years after that night, until my wife totalled it in a bizarre double t-bone situation in which the freakish aspect of the accident was that she survived (and the airbag didn't go off).

Have you seen Dino before? He's not exactly cogently communicative and I think he's legitimately insane - and that was years ago. I can only imagine him now after a stroke. He was previously charged with exposing himself to kids and believed he could telepathically communicate with members of the Lunachicks. Don't know if he still does, but he played shows completely naked.

I really wished you would ask him about the time he slipped LSD into his brothers donuts when he was in his teens. At the time, GG didn't party, didn't do anything. When he was tripping, he got pissed off at his brother for doing it, took all his clothes off, kicked and punched holes in the wall and tried to kill Merle. This was the glint in GG's eyes of things to come. This is only a tad bit mentioned in the HATED documentary that the famed director Todd Philips did when he was still a young little student.

Fascinating first interview! Definitely my favourite one! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Merle’s amazing motivation to play music, “for the love of it.” Thanks for interviewing Merle again and focusing on his life, rather than his brother’s life.❤

I originally met Merle in 98(?)…he used to put adverts in the MR&R magazine classifieds to sell merch and charcoal rubbings of GG’s headstone. I was going to NY pretty frequently at that time…and I arranged to grab some gear and a rubbing of GG’s headstone. He’s always been extra gracious…coolest guy ever.

It's heartwarming in its own way. I have only one sibling, an older brother. If I croak he'd act all distraught but wouldn't really GAF. If he croaked, I wouldn't really GAF. It's just one less asshole to split the inheritance with :) hehehe Fuck older brothers, but Merle still has some humanity after growing up around certifiably crazy :)

I love most of everything this guy has to say with the exception of his feelings on the music scene. There is so much good music happening right now and it’s sad to see that Merle hasn’t looked far enough to find it. It’s such a cliche for the older guy to say “there’s no good music anymore”, but it isnt true, it never has been. There will always be an underground scene pushing limits in music and that by definition is rock and roll or punk. It’s music that pushes boundaries and provokes thought.

I was only 7 when GG died and only listened to him from like three years a go. But idve loved to have met gg. He represents just the raw insanity and disappointment of real life. He was real. And unapologetic. True punk rock. We need people like him. I've spoken to Merle too over Facebook and that blew my mind. He's a true cool guy. And it's true by was not a true junkie. Alcohol was more his thing. Great video.
