punk is more simple and repetitive, has 18th note feel, and metal uses a lower tone, and is complex, the muted strings then playing, spacing between power chord, its more metal.

I don't know how he does it, but generally you run the guitar through a computer interface that converts the guitar signal into something the computer can use. Another option would be to mic an amp, where you just run your guitar into an amp with a microphone in front of it and run the mic to your computer interface
