I have seen "X" a million times, as far back as when I was 14 & my big Sister would go up to L.A. & she would (reluctantly) let her 'little Bro' tag along to the all ages shows. BUT!!, I have never seen them at The Troubadour, and tomorrow,...that dream is gonna come true! Can't even wait!! All Hail "X"!

Thrilled to discover this clip. Saw X so many times throughout my life I lost count. Their marriage of punk aesthetic, patriotism and pure L-O-V-E is one of those things that captures your attention when you're young and your heart as you age. And though we age, this music never gets old. Thanks for posting this.

Yup, Dick was always receptive to new sounds. Didn't matter what genre they were in, if it rocked he liked it. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves for introducing music to the world. When this took place you've got to remember it was close to 30 years after he was introducing rock n roll to the and he was still enthusiastic.

If the city of Los Angeles could be personified in a single band, it would definitely be X. A very long list of great bands, musicians, and songwriters have emerged from the city of angels over the years and decades, too many to narrow it down to one single “greatest ever” band, but there’s no question that X has represented everything the city is about, warts and all. To me they *ARE* Los Angeles, like some Raymond Chandler novel come to life and put to music. Long may they reign.

Van Halen was a far better representation of TRUE LA. Roth was the beach. Eddie and Alex were the Valley. Michael Anthony was the drunk tourist

I became a belated fan of The Blasters by the 1990's ... who, eventually had a connection with X when brother Dave Alvin had left the Blasters in '86 eventually joining X, briefly. Dave then made an album (2 actually) with John Doe and Exene and Jonny Ray Bartel (The Red Devils) as the band The Knitters (by 2005). The older Knitters channeled a country-punk-rock vibe.

Always loved X since I was in high school in the 80’s but never got to see them until July 3 of 2019 and then for the second time last month. If you get a chance to see them live it’s definitely worth it. They put on a great show.

So: (a) yeah - Dick Clark's thing w/ the audience member/kissing the hand was uber-creepy -- and (b) why in hell couldn't they get a light on Billy Zoom (guitarist) when he was playing and the camera was ON him - and he was in total darkness and impossible to see? Director-malpractice. >;-)
