Troubleshooting the Punty. Includes a demonstration of making a simple, effective punty, common mistakes and how to correct them. The ultimate goal of a punty is to be so clean that it requires no cold-working when done! A good punty is a mark of hand-blown, artisanal glass, and should not need to be removed. If torching is necessary to remove sharp edges, a good punty torches quickly and cleanly.
A Punty (or Pontil or Punti) is a small amount of hot glass on the end of a steel rod that's typically attached to the bottom of an object-for example a cup-and reverses its axis so that the top can be opened.
Demonstrated by Professor Davin Ebanks at Kent State University.
