Sunday was Groundhog Day. We found out if we will have an early spring or a long winter. To get our answer, NBC Montana's Jason Hurst went looking for Bitterroot Bill.
"We're looking for Bitterroot Bill, that's right, we're looking for marmot," Hurst said." We're not looking for rabbits; we are looking for marmot to see if he sees his shadow."
Most of the nation knows about Punxsutawney Phil, but in Montana, we're proud of Bitterroot Bill.
"We have it over Punxsutawney Phil," said Bob Danley, Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge volunteer. "We are organic experience. We're not pulling an animal out of a box. We're actually going out there like Lewis and Clark did 200 years ago, actually again experiencing things and not just being a passive observer."
