I can't put into words how comforting it is to watch you paint. Your voice is perfect for narrating your videos. I'm forever in awe of your water color talent. I remember watching Sandy Duncan on TV growing up and you've done an excellent job painting her. I'd love to see more of this kind of painting with one color.

That is really fantastic. I started out painting monochromatic, but soon got caught up in the color frenzy (and my paint drawer shamefully hides this evidence). Having been away from painting for awhile, I've been struggling to get back to my old level. Seems going back to the basics might be an answer. I hadn't even thought about it! Thanks for this video. Very inspiring.

This is such a beautiful painting, Kelly! I took art all four years of High School, but never got to learn watercolor painting and plan to try this with one color. I do have a few watercolor paint sets and need to buy paper is the watercolor paper at Walmart ok to start with? Also I have brush sets, but I just went and got ones that I like the look of and was never told what I need to watercolor with. One set I have is made of Raccoon hair. When I get all my items out I plan to take photos of what I have and post to Instagram if you would not mind taking a look and telling me if what I have is good to use as I start out painting again:) I did most of my art in black ink. I will post a picture I did on Instagram for you to see. Thanks!

I really loved this video-I mostly work in pen and ink and I watch your videos trying to get up the courage to paint. Would there be any differences to how you would work if you were using ink wash instead of watercolor?
@KellyEddingtonWatercolors11 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matthew! Honestly: not really. They're about the same. The paper I use (Arches 140 lb cold press) is more forgiving than anything I've used with ink, and lifting is easier. It's been a while since I've done ink wash drawings, but it always seemed like once ink was on the paper, there wasn't much you could do to change it. So if you ask me, watercolor's a little easier, at least monochrome. :)

Where do you start when doing portraits I feel they are overwhelming to start once you softly outline. Figuring out what steps and parts to do in what order seem overwhelming.
@KellyEddingtonWatercolors11 жыл бұрын
You need a good drawing first--at least enough so that you can see where you're at once you start. I usually go in the order you see in the video. I think you really have to get the eyes right first--if you don't, what's the use of painting anything else? Keep practicing, and be brave!

One of my teachers said watercolor wasn't "real art" lol it always stuck with me but your videos are making me question that lol
@oanagabriela108710 жыл бұрын
One of my teachers said that only coloured drawings and paintings mean ''real art'' and that black and white or monochromatic drawings and paintings are just practicing... Until I got her to see my finished black and white drawings and my monochromatic ones. Then she changed her opinion.
@tanithlambi10 жыл бұрын
Your teacher has no idea what they are talking about, or perhaps they themselves have a block with/against water-colour. It is INDEED an art!! Teachers like that have no business being teachers!! Grrrrrrr!!!
@magical57110 жыл бұрын
Tanith Lambi it's common in the art "circle" to look down upon watercolor. mostly because of how many people you have out there doing pretty much the same, no very much thought put into it. i mean, have you seen for example how many videos are there of those splashy, extra colorful portraits? they are all the same. and show no real knowledge of the medium (just a very basic undersanding of it) and a piece of art should be somehing unique, not something done in the same manner again and again no thought put into it. But then again, that isn't the fault of the technique iself, but of a certain type of people overusing it.
@yesungkpopper4ever10 жыл бұрын
Now it makes me want to stop using watercolor +_+ hhh... What about using colored pencil... I bet that isn't art either .... Oh well... I use mostly colored pencil and watercolor ... But have also done acrylic, graphite, and charcoal... I also want to try oil painting
