I found my heeler in the trash when she was only 4 weeks old. I had nothing for a puppy since i wasnt exactly looking for a dog but cuz she was so little she slept on my chest on the couch for the first week I had her. Serious bonding during that first week. By the time she was 7 weeks old she was potty trained, had the basic obedience commands down solid and crate trained. She's 9 years old now and I shouldn't be, but I'm still amazed at how wicked smart she is. She understands complex concepts that I didn't think dogs were capable of. That's a cattle dog for you! She's my whole world and my everything!

Love seeing cattle dogs thriving in the U.S.A. I've had 3 from pups all living well into their teens. Plus a dingo (Boris, 17). All were so special and easily trained and I now have a rescue red heeler from the pound. She was a street stray about 2 years old who was never owned or trained. I've had her 4 months now and all she needed was love and confidence. Now she does everything I ask with a huge smile. So intelligent.

My moms friend rescued an abandoned dog after a guy just left her on the streets. She was pregnant and soon after he took her in she had puppies. My mom and her husband decided to take in one of the puppies and she is so adorable. She loves everyone in the family and loves when anyone she knows visits. She is always hearding my 5 year old sis and goes to work with my sis's dad. He does construction and landscaping and she helps him. Idk with what or how but she looks forward to going to work with him everyday.

My Blue heeler Amelia is going on 4 yo. When we brought her home she scratched, herded and started training me to be her pet. She is the sweetest and smartest dog I have ever had. I am fascinated how she always goes to sit where she can watch both my wife and me. Its an inate trait. I may be a bad owner but she doesn't go on mile walks etc. She frisbees in the backyard and runs after the squirrels. She seems satisfied with that, sleeping and wanting me to pet her..

Hi great videos Question how he did on the separation from his family Did he cry If he did how wha you did? I need some help on my first blue heeler thank you 😊
@GrowingUpBlue3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eri! Rocket and Bindi did both cry for the first night at home in their crate. I think it was probably a mix of separation anxiety, confusion, and the unknown, but for both Rocket and Bindi we slept on the floor next to their crate for the first few nights. If they cried, we just stuck our fingers in the crate to let them know we were there, and it generally calmed them down enough to put them back to sleep. We also tried a ticking clock outside of their crate with both of them - the sound/rhythm is said to help calm them down too. Some people say its a similar tempo as the heartbeat of their littermates.

We just got an ACD on Tuesday, she's 8 weeks old and a wee bit nippy. Do you have any advice for stopping this behavior?
@GrowingUpBlue3 жыл бұрын
Yay! Congrats on your new pup! What's her name? And yes - firm and consistent "NO"s or "NO BITE" and redirection. Always replace your hands (or whatever is in her mouth) with a toy. She should learn that it's not okay to chew on you, but get lots of praise when she chews on her own toys! The nipping was pretty rough with Rocket for a few weeks, but with NOs and redirection we got there. :) Good luck!!

We just got our ACD Saturday and he's 8 weeks. How do you get them to not whine in their pen? He's not afraid of it, he just wants more spoiling.
@GrowingUpBlue3 жыл бұрын
Hi Christina! Thank you for watching our videos and congratulations on the new puppy! What's their name? Some puppies will always whine for the first few minutes in their crate, it's the separation anxiety that sets in. Crate training is key though, and eventually hopefully your puppy will stop whining after just a few minutes, as opposed to 30 minutes. Practicing time in the crate should only be for a few minutes at first and then you let them out when their quiet, even if it is only for a second. Eventually you can build up the time that they're in the crate. You want them to feel that it is their safe place so putting in a safe treat like a stuffed kong or durable toy could help too.
@christinamaples22343 жыл бұрын

Do you leave your blue heeler pup in his crate through the night? Or do you wake up in the middle of the night to let them go outside to pee? PS Love your videos - thanks!
@GrowingUpBlue3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hannah! Thanks so much for watching! :) Now that Rocket is 10 months old and Bindi is 6 months old, they've been sleeping in our bedrooms on their own beds on the floor. We do get up at about 5am for a potty break these days, but of course it varies by age. At 8 weeks old (when this video was) we were having Rocket sleep in his crate at night, then when he started crying we would let him out to go potty. A good rule to follow is a puppy can hold their pee for an hour for every month old they are, so a two month old puppy will be able to hold it for about two hours. I hope this helps! :)

@GrowingUpBlue4 жыл бұрын
Hi! 6 weeks is pretty young, crying in the crate seems like it would be normal. I wouldn't leave them in there crying for more than a few minutes, then take them out when they get quiet. I've found that crate training is all about slowly but surely getting them used to being in the crate and you being away. I'd try putting in a safe toy that they enjoy too!

How much puppy chow do I feed my pup? Also what kind of puppy treats do you recommend?
@GrowingUpBlue3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dallas! Every puppy has their own nutritional requirements depending on the breed, age, and size so I'd recommend asking your vet for specifics! :) I will say though that we feed both Rocket and Bindi Purina Pro Plan Lamb and Rice Puppy Formula, and currently Rocket gets 1 1/2 cups per meal and Bindi gets 1 1/4 cup per meal. We feed 3 meals per day. For puppy treats, check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5XHq4hsgriBnsk It has all of my pups' favorite treats in it!!

@GrowingUpBlue4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, we were not able to bring Ziggy home with us. About a week before going to pick him up, he went to a vet appointment and the breeder found out that he had a genetic disorder that was beyond our ability to provide for. Our hearts were broken that we would not be able to care for him fully and give him the life he deserves. His breeder recommended that they keep him, and he is now living on a farm with a big pack of dogs to help him.
