A sweet elderly family friend of ours passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 94. I adopted her darling Maltese Cody. He is 6. I’ve done so much research on the tear stain situation. I loved your video because you listed the top 3 or 4 ways that I’ve heard to actually work. One lady said on the Spoiled Maltese website that she has found the dab and comb method to be the m successful. Exactly as you said. Your baby Bentley is beautiful and so are you. Also, I will add, if you take notice, you'll realize that is is not only the eye area, tears. Often maltese dogs will also have the peach color at their paws, around their mouth, and areas they lick because it is not just in their tear ducts, it is in their saliva as well. Regular bathing is important.

Filtered water, and dry food worked for my dog. My dog used to have so many tear stains. I trim and clean his face with a wipe or wet paper towel everyday! I think too much hair in their face can cause irritation and more tearing.. Also ive noticed his eyes have more eye booger than tears.(I'm not sure if it has to do with what he eats ) Plastic bowls don't really matter for my dogs case. He uses plastic for his water/food! So I noticed you do great with avoiding tear stains! XD

Love the video and tips! I talk to my Maltese like that too and so loved it! Wellness dog food helped get rid of tear stain in my last Maltese but not my current Maltese and so am looking for other tips right now - so thanks! A Groomer once told me to try different foods till one worked and that is how I found Wellness worked for my last dog (and verified when I tried a couple of different foods which all made tear stain came back). Haven't found the right food for this dogs yet and may be complicated by all the treat he gets during class time. I will try Envy next - Thanks!

Your Bentley videos are so cute and helpful. None of my dogs are white but tear stains are or can be an issue. I've tried several products myself and yes it's necessary to clean their eyes daily or it can turn into a real problem. I'm a hairdresser so I've been using like people cutting combs or taper comb I should say. What's the name of the one you used? That looks like it's a great one of the face period. Please let me know when you can. I also try to be the only one that cuts around my dogs eyes because I've had a few experiences where 2 of my dogs got reoccurring yeast infections. Come to find out it is common when groomers don't clean their equipment in between each dog. Really, once I asked them NOT groom the T area of their faces and let them just do the perimeter of the face and rest of the body it never happened again. Some people think that all this dog stuff is alittle much since they aren't people but whatever!! My dogs are treated well and want to keep them healthy so I don't listen to criticism like that. Thanks again for the entertaining and informational video. 😀

Thanks so much for your very useful video on cleaning tear stains. I've written down all the products you recommend and will start using them when I run out of Angels Eyes (AE), which works great on my white poodle mix. Like you, I initially didn't want to use an antibiotic, but was assured by a friend who uses it that the amount is very small. The antibiotic formula has now been discontinued but my friend turned me on to a website where you can get it in the powdered form. We/ve been using the chewables but will switch when that's gone. Your doggie is very sweet and cute, and you are simply great with him. I enjoyed your little conversations with him, too (and your doggie-talk voice is not at all annoying!) Fran

+gojobuddy Yes, but the product has been discontinued as it contained a mild antibiotic. I gave my white poodle mix the Angels Eyes chews originally, which worked like a charm. After that was discontinued, I managed to lay my hands on and Angels Eyes powder which isn't doing much. Sorry I don't have anythi;ng else to recommend; most eye stain solutions and wipes are pretty useless.

Angel eyes works. I use the beef only. Use the tip of a butter knife every other day. Takes about 1 month for the old stains to grow out but then no more stain problems. Once no more stains, cut the dosage to once every 4 or 5 days. No more stains. You can order on line.

Well lots of info there, and at least you brought up what happens when you cut the hair around the eyes - but isn't that the real reason for no eye stain - you cut it off? The eye envy is a good product, but won't eliminate stains on teething puppies.

It is better to drink pH Balanced water if you have yucky tasting tap water. Distilled water has had all trace nutrients removed which can make the water acidic. :)

@j02261982j oh I wish my dog would outgrow it. She never had it bad but then just the last couple of months it's gotten really bad where it goes down on her cheeks. I'm just beside myself in grief. I get it all wiped up and then it dries and then a couple of hours later, she gets teared up again and they drip the cycle just repeats. Taking her to a doggie eye doctor in March. My regular vet says her tear ducts are probably clogged and need to be flushed. UGH

I purchased the SPA Lavish and have used it along with the Bausch and Lomb. I just can't get the tear stains out. I need to get this out if I'm going to show her. She is 5 mos. old. Help! It also states that you can't get the SPA Lavish in the eyes! Yikes!!!

This is exactly what worked for my MIKKA for staining! WELLNESS Brand COMPLETE HEALTH dog food. Bausch & Lomb Eye Wash? YES! I use the same! Glass & SS bowls? YES! If you really want to see a difference in staining on your dogs, feed your dogs WELLNESS brand(COMPLETE HEALTH) dry dog food and filtered or bottled water (not sure the water makes that big of a difference because I gave her that since she was 8 weeks old). My Mikka is 9 years old. I got her at 8 weeks and she had staining problems. I was feeding her the breeders recommended brand of ROYAL CANIN dry. I tried multiple things to remove the stains. ANGEL EYES...NO! . None worked. I ran into a man with a Maltese at PetSmart and he told me what I'm telling you. Mikka turned as while as can be...no more staining, and she's a licker. 3 weeks after I started her on that diet she was a different looking dog. Her groomer saw her and asked what I did to get rid of the staining. I told her. Mikka stayed white until about 2 years ago when I had to put her on ROYAL CANIN special diet to determine what she was allergic to that was causing eye infections. I ended up keeping her on that wet food EXPENSIVE special diet for a year partly trying to figure her allergies and the other reason was she didn't want to eat her Wellness because it was dry food. I finally gave up the ROYAL CANIN Special diet canned food and went back to her WELLNESS dry, AND added a little canned WELLNESS (small little can) for flavor for her. Within 3 weeks, she was all white again. If I knew how to send you guys pictures of before and after as a puppy, and before and after now, you would be shocked. It is unbelievable! Tell me how to post the pictures, and I'll be happy to do so! This is what I feed Mikka. WELLNESS COMPLETE HEALTH GRAIN FREE for Small Breeds (Yellow & purple bag) WELLNESS Petite Entress (very small plastic with foil top can)- I feed her about 1/2 can mixed with the dry for each feeding for flavor) DASANI or AQUAFINA bottled water, but she loves for me to hold her up to the kitchen sink and drink water as it flows from the faucet Treats she's always been given: PET BOTANICS Brand Mini Training Treats NUTRO Brand Crunchy Treats (Mixed Berry) Recently started giving her a GREENIE for her teeth once a day Aditionally, we rarely give her people food. Sometimes fresh blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries. She also eats fresh carrots cut up very small so she doesn't choke!

You can use colodial silver with 3% peroxide… just don’t get any peroxide in the eyes. Silver is fine. Colloidal silver is a natural antibiotic.

I have a pacemaker today from using distilled water because it doesn’t supply minerals that your body needs. I don’t know what it does to dogs but it’s not healthy for humans and it could be harmful for dogs also. Purified bottled water would be fine I’m just not sure about distilled water being safe for dogs. Your vet would be able to tell you.

why do u give your maltese a bath 2x a wk. I think thats way too much. my maltese gets groomed every 6wks . we bath him the night before my groomer comes. 1 shampoo 2x and 1 simple conditioner. my wife uses a blue gel for his eyes and hes clean with no tear stains. I goota say thats well pampered dogs, good for you. ps somebody told me a while ago no distilled water only filtered water, something changes with the water when you distile it.
