As ceremonial music for a solemn occasion, Purcell has no equal. Besides being a great musician, he surely understood the human heart. Many thanks to performers - and poster!

Regarding the claim in your first sentence, I suggest you listen to the Funeral Sentences of William Croft (1678-1727); Croft incorporated one of Purcell’s settings into his own (Thou knowest, Lord, the secrets of our hearts), in short as a tribute, and saying that it could not be bettered. It is Croft’s setting, not Purcell’s, that has been used at the funeral of almost any British figure of whom one has ever heard (including the late-Queen in 2022) since its first performance - probably for Queen Mary II in 1695.

Really I have just heard a marvellous page: bravi, bravi, bravissimi!!! Furthermore I would avail myself of the occasion in order to express my wholehearted thanks to KZbin: I am allowed by them to obtain at least some knowledge of pages written by composers [in this instance Henry Purcell] of whom in the best of instances I would know just the name but no more... And similar considerations have to be extended also to the actual performers: without KZbin I would never have gained any acquaintance of Singapore Symphony [bravi!! bravi!! bravissimi!!!] nor of Ms. Sofi Jeannin, their [charismatic] female director. With my best wishes!!

Man that is born of a woman hath but a short time to live, and is full of misery. He cometh up, and is cut down, like a flower; he fleeth as it were a shadow, and ne'er continueth in one stay. In the midst of life we are in death: of whom may we seek for succour, but of thee, O Lord, who for our sins art justly displeased? Yet, O Lord God most holy, O Lord most mighty, O holy and most merciful Saviour, deliver us not into the bitter pains of eternal death. Thou knowest, Lord, the secrets of our hearts; shut not thy merciful ears to our prayer; but spare us, Lord most holy, O God most mighty, O holy and merciful Saviour, thou most worthy judge eternal, suffer us not, at our last hour, for any pains of death, to fall from thee.
