Purchasing a $2000 opal mining claim!
There are many ways to secure an opal mine, the most common is to find a bit of ground that you have high hopes for and stake out your claim.
Another common method out on the opal field is to purchase an existing claim off someone who either doesn’t have the time to work it anymore or in the case of this mine, had gotten a little too old to be going up and down the ladder!
The benefits of buying an existing mine is that generally the previous miner can give you a good idea of what the ground is like and if it was producing much opal as well as at which levels.
It also means you can get started right away and continue digging on from where they left off.
Opal mining is always a gamble and you never know what you are going to get!
In our previous KZbin video you will notice I fossicked a lot of good opal in this area and that is the reason we decided to take over this claim.
The set up was pretty brief with some basic equipment our goal was to get digging as soon as possible. We really wanted to recuperate the funds we spent buying this claim right away.
Once we had lowered the gear into the mine we did a lot of pillar bashing and black lighting then we were lucky enough to break onto a small bit of colourful green and blue opal.
I’m confident that once that material is cut it will go along way to paying off this new mine!
Noah and I all in all where pretty stoked with how it turned out.
We unfortunately won’t be back in here digging for a while until we get a hoist or machine in place to move the waste dirt out of the mine.
I hope you all enjoyed the video, noah and I had a lot of fun exploring and mining in this new location.

When I was younger we were working an opal mine at Lighting Ridge. 40+ up top so headed down the shaft and got to the bottom of the ladder only to hear all this rustling in the tunnels. My eyes hadn't adjusted to the dark so my torch did stuff all and I completely crapped myself thinkig someone else was down there with me. Turned out to be frogs sliding down the dirt piles.

@1starshot
@1starshot 2 жыл бұрын
I've done a fair bit of tunnel mining & it was the second thing that came to mind, for fresh air & dust removal. After watching him go down that ladder I'd be widening that entrance shaft first. It'd be a bugger trying to get someone out if injured. Need a gas detector down there too. Fluorescent ropes from exit to mine faces would come in handy, if they broke through to an underground spring & lights went out they could have a problem. Things can happen really fast in tunnels & many have died over the years.

Loving the video fab filming. I always wonder why more of the miners on Outback opal hunyers don't use more Black light tech to pick up opal. Obviously it doesn't tell you what type of colour you have but it helps to spot it in a pile of rubble.

Awesome video, just subbed. If you guys use black lights a lot which it looks like you do check out some of the inspection black lights made by Labino. They even have head lamp black lights which are pretty powerful. You can also get spotlights that are black lights so you can illuminate a large area which would help with sorting through rubble in search of colour. I swear by them, I use them all the time.
