@@MrBassface06 Nah. That's just how it is as a RB in any Shanahan offense. Both Mike and Kyle will ride guys until they get hurt, then insert the next guy. We didn't go get CMC because we needed a RB. The opportunity presented itself and the front office went for it. He missed 3 games earlier this season with an MCL issue. He just came off a 3 games where the team rested him because he was having soreness with his knee and they wanted him ready for the playoffs. CMC has also been getting banged up. He had a calf issue today vs the Commies. He had a patella issue flare up against the Cards (knee issues all season). He had an oblique injury during the Browns game.

Put CmC, Elijah, and Jordan in a solid rotation. save the wear an tear on their bodies and our offense will still hum cause all three of them can carry and catch well. 9:00 You can say he's making a bad/"sus" throw, but show your work. Explain why. I disagree that the throw there was bad at all. Purdy is doing is exactly what he's supposed to do, which is put the ball on the back corner of the endzone. It's a ball that is thrown based on timing from when Aiyuk breaks on the top of his route. Purdy has to put the ball in a spot only Aiyuk can make a play. Aiyuk doesn't get a clean break at the top of the stem. The corner has outside leverage and Aiyuk has to work around him. Aiyuk kinda slips coming out of his break for the corner. There are three defenders in the area playing man and one linebacker playing zone to rob anything under. So Purdy has to be aware that any of those DB's can jump a throw if he's not exact with the placement. The last thing any one wants to see is a pick in the endzone because he was forcing it instead of throwing it to the intended, and safe, location.

Brock Purdy now holds the franchise record for single season passing yardage (4280), surpassing Jeff Garcia (4278) in 2000, but I guess any game managing system QB can do that. All of his accomplishments this season, outshining the "elites" in nearly every stat, has the highest passer rating in the league, and coming off a major injury...a 7th round, last pick in the draft QB that nobody ever saw coming...but people still wanna call him a game manager or a system QB...They just can't admit that the kid is elite, or great, or even good. So be it. The kid has nothing to prove in my eyes, or many other fans of this team for that matter, because in our eyes, he is elite.

At the end of the day, football is a team sport. Everyone needs to contribute. Yes, Purdy benefits from having playmakers around him. His offensive line isn't good at pass protection though. Trent Williams and Feliciano are the only good pass protectors and Feliciano is a backup. What Trent does for Purdy is make the pressure he will face when passing more predictable. When you watch these highlights, how often do you see pressure coming from the left edge when Trent is in the game? Rarely. Instead, the pocket collapses from the right or up the middle, where the 49ers OL is soft. Purdy's ability to react to predictable pressure allows him to evade it by sliding behind Trent or loop back around the pressure to the right. The playmakers are great when they get the ball, but someone has to get them the ball. Jimmy G could do that in a limited fashion. Both Jimmy and Purdy feast on throws that attack the intermediate and deep areas of the field. Seams, posts, inside digs, deep crossers. 10-, 15-, and 20-yard varieties. What Purdy does that Jimmy couldn't (especially after Kyle broke him) is attack the sidelines. Jimmy couldn't put enough velocity on the ball so he would send out ducks that would get picked. Purdy can throw the 5, 10, 15 yard outside digs. He can throw the wheel routes, corner posts, corner fades (over the top and back shoulder). And while Jimmy could throw the 20+ yard throws, he didn't do it often. Purdy has no problem taking the shot if the defense gives it to him. What Purdy brings to Kyle Shanahan is freedom to expand his playbook but also forced to give up on other things. Purdy has athleticism, but designed QB runs aren't going to be a staple in any offense with him as QB. With Lance, Jimmy G, Beathard, and Mullens, Shanahan was willing to run the ball with the QB, which led to them all getting crushed physically. Purdy doesn't have their size. But he does bring the ability to analyze coverages and make smart decisions with the football. He has a gunslinger mentality which means he's aggressive when attacking. He will throw picks or balls that look like picks but will be shrugged off by detractors as "luck". And yes, he's a system QB. Every QB is a "system QB". Most QBs in the NFL run some variation of the West Coast Offense, Air Coryell, or Erhardt-Perkins. Of those that run the West Coast Offense, nearly all are some variation of the Bill Walsh/Paul Brown system developed by Walsh as the OC in Cincy and popularized in his time as HC of the 49ers. Purdy, Tua, Stroud, and Love run the Shanahan variant. Mahomes and Howell run the Reid variant. Fields, Prescott, (insert Jets QB) run the Holmgren/McCarthy variant. The Seahawks and Rams run McVay's variation of the West Coast Offense, which is really just the Gruden variation. Lamar Jackson is finally throwing in a real passing system (Air Coryell) under Monken and is having his best passing season of his career. Dak is having the best passing season of his career too with McCarthy being forced to install the his West Coast Offense himself. Purdy benefits from the talent around him, the system around him, and the coaching around. But the talent, system, and coaching all benefit from having Purdy as QB. And he's still not in his final form. If there was a year that showed how important it is to have a team playing well, its 2023. All the quarterbacks that are idolized for the characteristics and crowned the "franchise QBs" aren't having great years. Mahomes, as much as people want to blame the drops, also has his share of picks and poorly thrown balls. Rodgers was dead behind that Jets OL. Goff and the Lions are subject to the ebb and flow of their coaches. Dak and the Cowboys face concerns of execution, clock management, and discipline from players and coaches.

Both sus throws was on purpose. No one open so a purposeful throw away. Also oline is not great. Ranked in 20’s. However, run blocking is good. Pass blocking is not great. Trent is like two good players on oline. Guess that is why they gave him two lockers. Christian was injured earlier in game so Mitchell took over and played well.

Brock Purdy is good because of the system. The OL is literally bottom 10. Now trent is 1 of 1 but the OL as a unit is hot garbage. But just because Purdy is in a good system doesn't mean he's not good himself. Montana played under Bill Walsh's west coast offense system. Young played under Shanahan's system who also had a top 3 rushing attack. Are they bad because they had good systems? What about Mahomes in Andy Reid's system? Andy Reid got Alex Smith a probowl nod, the first and only time in his career. Reid is a proven offensive genius. Would Brees have been as great if he didn't have Sean Payton? Systems help talent. I truly believe everyone in the draft has potential to be great, where they land matters, will they land in a place that unlocks that potential? What if Mahomes was on the Panthers right now. I believe the Panthers might be better than they are now, but Mahomes isn't single handedly turning that dumpster fire into a playoff winning team. Ppl want Carolina to draft Caleb. Why? So they can turn him into a bust? We saw the Jags draft qb after qb in the first round... what did it get them? How many playoff wins? The system isn't conducive to winning.
