Great podcast. Went to school to become a wildlife biologist. Changed gears and became an outfitter and at 67 I don't plan on missing a day outside. Donnie, your attitude towards what's real in the outdoor world is so spot on.

It amazes me how many people hate on private land. We worked our asses off to get that property. I guarantee we’re putting in more work and research into that property year around than anybody who says anything about “deer farmer.”

Agreed he’s got a great message for hunters and truly loves the animals. Im getting so sick of the ultra conservative hunting where the message is stay out ! Your property is going to fail ! Don’t use a headlamp walking in you spook deer ahhhh no pressure ! Stay out your going to ruin your hunt if you spook deer nonsense. This Dudes passion is legit

Carter RX1 or Lucky works great for wrapping your finger around the trigger.
@natemihlbachler3511

I've been hunting with a Carter Honey 2 for 3 years. I don't have target panic but the process of releasing the thumb safety followed by the hinge rotation creates another 2 or 3 seconds to slow the process down hence suppressing that urge to slam the trigger when the pin hits brown. At that time my thumb is still on the safety. Hunting is years of waiting and preparation and most shots are blown in the last second or 2 because the pin wasn't settled and the trigger was ripped or punched. I turned my hunting buddy onto this release as well and it has helped him tremendously. With this process every shot is truly a surprise. When guys tell you they command shoot what that really means is they can't execute a controlled surprise release and there just punching. And it always starts with well if I've got one hole to shoot through I got to be able to slap the shot off right then. It's bs and it's just them trying to tell themself that their being out of control with the trigger is okay and normal. I've had this extra 2 seconds within the firing process bite me on coyotes but never on a deer. Another good release is the Carter squeeze me which is a wrist strap that is resistance activated. Triggers open the door for bad habits.

So I'm newer to archery hunting and never really thought about "target panic" one thing with shooting rifle and shotguns is I make my self do a figure 8 over the target and then on the center of the 8 that's when I shoot. Lately when shooting archery I have noticed myself doing the same thing. Not sure if this really means anything to you guys that do this all the time just my 2 cents. Love the videos great driving noise and content. Keep it up!

Crossbow season in NY is in the heart of the rut… Literally the last 2 weeks of first archery season like Nov 3-17th…. I’ve seen way way more people in the woods these last 3 years because the lazy ass gun hunters can now figure out how to use a x bow. I got one, and I’ve actually missed a monster with one cuz I’m so used to practicing with compounds and looked at crossbow as a cheat code (it is) but people just do not put in the effort or practice with them like compound shooters do. It should be allowed only during muzzle loader seasons and for the handicapped/elderly

I made it! The only point I would make is the succession of life on this planet is antithetical to entropy. Deer, nor humans, would even be here otherwise. Of course, the humans are now wrecking the process so go enjoy the outdoors whilst you still can! Excellent guest.

Y’all sending me the one of y’all’s old bows ? Mine got ran over somehow, I was letting a buddy of mines son use it and some how it got ran over and totally destroyed, he borrowed it because he could t afford to buy one and then this happened, they offered to replace it but I couldn’t do that to them, i ended up just giving him one of my older bows, because he said he never wanted to touch another bow as long as he lived I couldn’t let something like that happen so he has his own bow now, but I told his ass he ruined this one and he was on his own lmao

I am glad I am not the only one that shoots squirrels out of the stand. I just keep a small game head in my quiver, and I never come home empty handed. I look at the crossbow as the muzzleloader equivalent. It has its place for the older or younger hunters, but no self respecting able bodied man should use one during bow season. Absolutely not.

This Doonie guy is so pompous. I hunted longbow for years. I still might again if the situation changes. Crossbow is just 10,000 times more ethical than that longbow. If we're trying to be ethical hunters their argument just falls apart. I hunt public land and there are SO FEW opportunities to take a deer. I've never got a deer with a bow or crossbow. I just want meat in the freezer, for my family. I'm not shooting more than 15 or 20 yards with the longbow. I'm no longer willing to let opportunity walk by. 80% of hunters don't get a deer in Ohio, period. A crossbow let's me reach out to 50 yards, hits SO MUCH harder, puts an arrow in a quarter sized hole regardless of distance, and it hits faster than my longbow at 20. The scope changes everything. Even at 60 yards with 4x, the deer looks 15 yards away. It's efficient and ethical. Compound is 100 times easier then traditional and crossbow is 100 times easier than compound. If you're a ethical hunter Xbow is just the most obvious choice for a quick clean kill. It's fastest and most accurate option. Period. If I ever see a deer when I have an Xbow in my hand, less than 50 yards, it will be in my freezer.

The one thing you have to realize is working the land is a deeper connection than just the hunt. Sure they are tied together, and there are some who manipulate too much

I love to plant food plots and do habitat work, likely more than even hunting. That said these ultra manicured deer farms in places like Iowa and Illinois are ridiculous imo. What they are doing is little difference than high fence hunting. I really like Lee. Super nice guy. Wealth of deer knowledge. Could not be a nicer more friendly guy the few times I have communicated with him. That said what he and others are doing is not hunting, with all due respect…
