FYI If anyone wondering about Biggles...Biggles was a British storybook hero, much beloved by the English, I think there are over 100 Biggles stories, and comics. Biggles, his cousin Algy and his other friends, fought bravely, (through 2 world wars) and with the help of the 'Sports' always pulled us through. Hence the line from the song: 'Where the hell was Biggles, when you needed him last Saturday? and where are all the sportsmen who always pulled you through?' - Meaning, when you grow up, the childhood heroes are no longer available to save the day, and you'll have to "pull-through" on your own.

One of the greatest concept albums ever. Beyond just the music, back in the day buying the vinyl the whole album jacket itself was part of the concept, complete with its own faux newspaper inside. Top to bottom an amazing album.

many have said that the greatest rock drummer ever was John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Bonham said it was "Barriemore" Barlow of Jethro Tull whoa yeah 50 years exactly pretty much! just my opinion but i like Passion Play, their next album, even better! XD but yes it is one of the most "classic" albums which defined prog, but it was also made in response to people calling their earlier work "concept albums". so they decided to actually make a true concept album which is a single song, and they said that a small boy genius wrote the lyrics to the song, but that was just a joke because the lyrics are actually very serious, and they like to make fun of music reporters and the media. they have fun lol... Ian Anderson is one of the greatest live performers and showmen ever... he goes all out every time.

Every other time I had heard side 2, it was right after hearing side 1, and my mind, having digested much, would be drifting by this point. As a result, I had always thought that side 1 was better than side 2. But now, having come to side 2 with fresh ears, I think side 2 might be the better side. I hope they don't get into a fight because both sides are great works of musical art. Its complexity, even today, is over many heads, but seeing you get all the nuances, I hope that you yourself are a musician and/or composer. Bound to be on a high vibration.

The more I listen to Jethro Tull, the more I tend to place the band at the top of the heap. Yes and Jethro Tull have tended to trade the #1 spot for me from time to time.

Out of all of the prog rock bands that existed during that time, this album surely has got to be at the top of the tree. It's magnificent in every respect. Very often with these prog rock outfits, melody can be lost within the technicalities of the music, but here the melodies are very strong with exciting and ever changing rhythms that keep the listener enthralled throughout the album from beginning to end.

I see myself 50 years ago riding on the waves of music magic -- letting them push and pull you and swirl you around ---- rising above and under the sounds from a faraway place and time -- well done young man -- Im glad you enjoyed yourself --- Ah and now for the Behemoth Passion Play -- Ive never seen anyone more ready than you --- You understand ---

Saw them play this live during their 1972 Thick as a Brick tour. Anderson's intro to TAAB was, "This first song is rather a lengthy one."

You did it so nice, I listened twice! You might dig some early 80's Tull. The Broadsword and The Beast has some great examples of mixing hard rock, folk, and the emerging keyboards of the 80's. Some great tunes, including Beastie, Broadsword, Pussy Willow, Fallen on hard times.

I had this on 8 track in 1978, it was great. One song all four tracks and then it started all over again. Beautiful. I saw the TAAB 1 and 2 concert several years back it was super.

Backdoor Angels is a shorter Tull song, but if there are 10 great guitar solos, 3 of them are on it.

Yeah I forgot baramor Barlow was the new drummer and John Evans he was the keyboard player I believe and then and maybe Jeffrey Hammond Hammond was the bass player? Who took over after Glenn cornick Joined a new group? Yeah there was a lot of different lineups a lot of people came through just like with Frank Zappa

Yeah ... You need to react to Jethro Tull's "Minstrel in the Gallery" ... you won't be disappointed ... the guitar is amazing, as are all. Otherwise, and perhaps more importantly ... "Thick as a Brick" is, indeed, a f'ing Epic Masterpiece, if there ever was one. I was fortunate enough to see them LIE back in the 70's, several times ... with inspiring and unforgettable memories.

Now, you have to try their next album, "A Passion Play". Also one single song spread across two sides of an album. That one, however, you might not want to split into two videos! Now, if you want a prog album that has one song that spreads across 4 sides, you need to get Mike Oldfeild 4th album. "Incantations". His first 3 albums are all one song each spread across two sides.

Yeah what a landmark what other album do you know is all just one song? The funny thing is later on they released a album that is all one song called Passion Play so I guess maybe you'll do a reaction to that one as well my brother went to the concert at the Forum in Inglewood I wish I could have saw that oh my gosh I have seen Jethro Tull a couple of times I'm trying to think of all the guys names Glenn cornick on bass Clive bunker on drums Martin Barre on guitar Jeffrey Hammond Hammond on keyboard of course the illustrious in Anderson flute acoustic guitar and vocals yeah this was a game changer it was a reaction to these reporters who kept asking about Aqualung the previous album because the thought it was a concept album and Ian was kind of bewildered by the whole thing so he just said okay I'll give you a concept album all right my man I will check you on the next epic drop

Very nice. Yes, you'd probably love A Passion Play, and since you liked the tiny bit of orchestra, you might enjoy Warchild. But you pretty much can sample anything from Stand Up (1969) to Broadsword & The Beast (1982) and find all sorts of gems. And if you like prog Tull, you'd probably really like Gentle Giant. (I'd suggest The Power & The Glory or Free Hand for starters. And like Tull, i strongly recommend the Steven Wilson mixes. Always wayyyyy better than the original cd mixes.)
