The Yamaha held up admirably given its price point costing less than the Pass lab pre alone. Bryston's sound signature seems to have changed, smoother for the mids and highs without sacrificing the bass grip and dynamics. The BRX is totally tremendous for a bookshelf! Great video as usual! Thank you!

Truly exemplary work. I think the audiophile community has been waiting for something like this. Your videos clearly delineate subtle differences. Nobody on KZbin has succeeded in what you've been able to accomplish. I bet people will love to hear differences between amps, speakers, etc. Probably takes a lot of work, but much appreciated.

I preferred the Yamaha... I listened but did not watch the video, was alt tabbed to play chess, when i went back and watched, i noted that it was the Yamaha I preferred. I guess I just like the very neutral presentation, with no emphasis anywhere that my ears could detect. I only hear up to 12kHz though, so I am missing everything above that range. Lucky for me there is no music up there!! I used to eschew cassette tapes because they only went to 12kHz and my 19 year old hears could hear to 20kHz... lol, now cassette's are perfect for me!

That Yamaha A-S2200 performs very nice 🤘🤘🤘 even compared with the Pass Labs/Bryston which is a lot more expensive... Keep in mind that those GE BRX go down to 1.5 ohms at 60hz and 2.1 ohms at 135Hz, not so easy to drive at all!

I've heard the brx and think they're magnificent. But like with every bookshelf I've heard, sounds like there's only half a speaker. The pass had control of the dynamics and the Yamaha didn't. When thinks got quieter and dynamics got softer, they seemed to fade away with the Yamaha but were still coherent and available with the pass. Opposite side of that was the airy highs of Yamaha sounded forward and separated from voice probwbly do to lack of control. The pass kept them right there with the rest of the vocal range and it was normal

@TheAlphaAudio
@TheAlphaAudio 4 жыл бұрын
De Pass met Bryston is ook neutraler. Maar met de Golden Ears speelt de Yamaha wat fijner vind ik. De Pass met Bryston is bijna té heftig. Maar dat is smaak. De sonnet is ongelooflijk neutraal en puur idd... Heel bijzonder.

For sure the midrange in Pass + bryston is more refined. Highs is hard to judge. Bryson tracks the bass line due to its huge output reserves which works best (better than Yammy) for this particular track. Yamaha feels lighter on its feet though. I wouldn’t say Bryson is more dynamic. I generally find Canadian amps to be somewhat ponderous and deliberate. But they are true to the character of music and have a solid foundation. That’s a true Canadian character. :) But for fast transient music they often flounder. Yamaha feels more agile and lively on vocals and modern electronics music.

@@TheAlphaAudio Don't get me wrong for this definitely doesn't sound bad, however (and I realize to each their own) I prefer them with much more tow in (depending upon room and sitting position of course ) and I never before heard them in any room sounding at their Best when pointed straight out into the room. And then given the Microphone spacing, which is nearly none, I would have thought that the Microphones would have done their best placed at a distance from each speaker = to the distance between the two speakers (from the image, which could be deceiving, it appears that the Microphones are much closer than the distance between each speaker). Or better still, separate the Microphones by some 6 ft and then they need only be placed out from each speaker say 5-6 ft. But then I'm not actually in your room (How I would LOVE to be), so I'm merely suggesting / guessing :)

@@johndaddabbo9383 Our room is relatively 'damped'. So we don't really need a lot of toe-in. The mircrophones are around 1,5 meters from the speakers. Speakers are 2,5m apart (I guess). Mics are different than our own ears. You don't actually place the mics on the listening position to get a similar experience. I explained that a couple of times in the comment on other video's. On the listening position it sound very far away and way too large. This is much more accurate. Just use some good headphones to get the best out of it. Or download the lossless samples from www.alpha-audio.net.

@@TheAlphaAudio Yes, I'm adequately versed on Mic placement and so Yes I would agree. OK, a ratio of 1,5 to 2,5 isn't so bad (looks much closer in the KZbin vid). Interesting, for I've never heard the BRX (or One.R or Ref) in a room so treated as yours. Although given the amount of treatment, I still cannot imagine the BRX's sounding their best with no tow in... I'm guessing that I simply like a more forward and lively presentation than you all do :) OK great, I'll definitely try out the Lossless samples... that should be real interesting. @@TheAlphaAudio Bowers 805D3 / Focal Sopra No1 / DALI Rubicon 6 - OK, so now you have me really confused... for I just located three other Speaker reviews you did and in all three instances you resorted to a % of toe-in, yet with the BRX's you found them best not toed-in at all..., where as I find that out of all 4 (actually 3) of these speakers that the BRX's sound best with more toe-in than the other 3 (actually other 2 since I haven't heard the DALI's). So again, I find it very interesting that you decided upon zero toe-in for the BRX's. I wonder if - your upstream components are playing into this / are your upstream components a bit different between the two reviews (Yup, apparently the two Systems are quite different, however I have no idea if it is that which is making the difference)?
