Une entreprise s'engage pour l'environnement à Madagascar. Pure Trade soutien l'ONG L'Homme et l'Environnement depuis 2014 pour la protection de l'incroyable biodiversité de Vohimana.
Pure Trade and the Net Positive Impact program of Man and the Environment have committed together in 2014 to show that it is possible to duplicate local community involvement programs for the local production of essential oils and plants medicinal products for cosmetic use in the context of conservation and restoration of forests and biodiversity. Local medicinal plants extracts have been indeed been used as ingredients for L'Oréal, Clarins, Yves Rocher etc. and are used for faire trade essential oil production for Aroma Forest.
In 2024 a second intervention site has been chosen on the west coast of the island where tests of protection of isolated blocks of forests and restoration of burned forests have been carried out for 15 years. They show preserved quantities of carbon in preserved forests that are much greater than in forests that have not been preserved (363 tonnes of CO2 eq versus 26 tonnes of CO2 eq) but also that forest restoration is possible and that it made it possible to recapture more than 130 tonnes of CO2 per hectare).
KPI will be sustainable deforestation avoided representing a minimum of 50.000 eq CO2 MT and the sustainable conservation of 8 more threatened species including 4 listed as being critically endangered.
The challenge consists of setting up a development plan over a larger area of several tens of thousands of hectares which would allow, as in Vohimana, to consider human development which is carried out by protecting the remaining forests and regenerating degraded areas for ensure the sustainable conservation of local biodiversity.
