This makes me appreciate my parents more. Right after WWII my Dad came home and he and Mom set out to build a bungalow. Dad's parents gave them land for a small residential lot. Lumber was scarce so they used as much salvaged packing crate wood as tthey could. My Grandfather worked at Kelvinator in Grand Rapids, MI and got the wood quite cheap. My parents bought a Sears table saw and a cement mixer. They dug their own well pit, poured their own slab and did their own plumbing and electrical. We lived in that house for 20+ years. I can now (sort of) visualize how much work they had to do. Thanks so much for your videos. I have seen a few snide comments about your new truck. I for one am happy for you - you deserve it.

I am 36, I have been a youtube user since it started, but you are the first people i have ever subscribed too. I understand that you argue behind the scenes, and i understand that you may have more money than you let on, however i love the interaction, and i really love how much work you put in to this. I love that some people with money are willing to put in work to make something they love. Please keep doing what you are doing, and as a couple please keep forgiving each other for mistakes you may have made so long as you keep going. I love you both.

Another great video keep up the hard work. Side note- when I was young I once worked as a labor on concrete job. My only job was to walk around with a paint roller, brush, pump sprayer and 5-gallon jug of oil and lubricate everything. The forms the rebar and wire mesh was already in place but I had a coat it all. When the job was done I had to throw my clothes away the oil never came out. Ended up being a railroad station.

I think that the two of you together as a team are really making rapid progress. I know that I am not seeing things in "real time" and that it appears to sped up too me because it is...However, I still feel that from my perspective you have made remarkable progress. While it probably doesn't feel that way from your perspective I just want you both to know that from the far outside looking in that it is quite evident, indeed, what a tremendous amount of work toward your goal has already been accomplished. Thank you for also taking the time to document you progression so well. That is clearly additional work being conducted right along side the more important critical work.

Hey guys, might be a bit late to mention this (without more digging) - I live entirely on tank water and It was suggested to me to me to install a water meter onto the line before it enters the house. I thought "waste of money and time." But for some reason did it anyway... best idea anyone has ever given me. Now I can accurately calculate daily, weekly or specific item water consumption. So I know I can run the house for 23 weeks without any rain. I know when the family is up for Christmas that we'll use an extra 1500 to 2000 litres a day that they are here. It really is a great tool to have in the line. I find it really useful anyway! Thought I'd let you know.

For those of you who are wondering. I live in North Dakota & we do it here quite a bit, gotta keep it above the 100-year floodplain & some go above the 500-year floodplain. We always bring in fill & back-fill the foundation & walls after they have been waterproofed! A lot of the time we even add rigid foam insulation to the footings & walls on the concrete, out side of build for added protection after it has been waterproofed!

Keep up the good work! Also, think about spraying a form release on the inside of your forms so they strip easier. Diesel fuel works great. But try not to get it on the rebar.
@gerrygriffin89257 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, it is not good to use wire for the rebar running to the outside form work. Saddles are used, because they don't allow water to get to your steel. What you have done can cause concrete cancer! That's were the wire then the steel rusts and expands cracking and breaking the concrete foundations! I hope you read this and change to saddles because I have been enjoying your success and developing block. Cheers Gerry ps you will find the concrete pour easy as, with a pump to easy, 2 hours tops!

Last summer I went on a canoe trip. Three months,, and pertinent to this video, triple digits almost every day. Several things worked. Powdered Gator-Aide, and Tang,,, a little blast of sugar, some electrolytes,,, of five or six liters prepared each morning, 2 or 3 would be the powdered drinks. I do recommende that little blast of sugar and some electrolytes, every second drink or every third drink. Second, after a solid month of paddling a canoe I found my energy rapidly sagging. Almost for sure because of lots of sweat,, trace minerals were continuously being drained. I found some Seniors, Woman's Centrum,, with lots of minerals,,,, heck the whole side panel was one long list. It worked. What ever I lacked,, it was one of those minerals. Third,, same kind of floppy wide brimmed fisherman's hat you use. I would dip in the river every 15 minutes to an hour, and flop,, all schloopy on to my head,, and trickling down my back. Those three things worked extremely well. BTW I am much older than you,, so you may not require,,, but one or two aspirin at the end of a tough day,,,makes sleep easier, better,, I awake with fewer aches and pains, better circulation. I am not a proponent of Ibuprofen or acetaminophen, thye work well for apin when it arrives. I find that aspirin is good before the fact. I think it has to do with its blood thinning character. Buuuuuttt,, doing re-bar wire ties,,, you may want all the clotting factor you can get. Use your linesmans for the twist,, end on. Great cutter and bender,, haven't seen one of those in a long while.

The pros use pre-tied wire hoops, which is a short wire with a pre-tied loop on each end. To install bend it around the rb and twist with a tool, which is a bent hook in a handle, about the size of file handle. It is lose inside so it can rotate and twist the two loops together. Look for tools and accessories at the store.

No screws on the inside ! How will you strip the forns ??? Duplex nails 😆 Great job ! Put form oil on the wood before you pour ! Diagonal braces ! Mark out for your bolts ! Have the concrete company dispatch the pumper so you wont get charged standby time. ● Spray the ground under your foundation with pretreat termite spray. ● Grounding rod !

At around 17 minutes you say you have experienced chaos on concrete pours. Yes!! My wife and I owned a chain of retail stores selling self-contained hot tubs. Sooo many of them needed a slab, and we learned not to schedule the delivery until the slab was poured, stripped and cured at least three days. "We will be ready on Monday..." right.

I really enjoy following your progress guys.👍🏽👍🏽. But a strong tip here-with all the frugality of not getting a ten dollar part, you made tying the rebar much more involved. Get a reel to put the wire in on your left hip, and a pair of pliers in your right hand, and feed the wire with left hand, and you won't have to camp at each spot with the whole roll weaving it around. -That is why it was so slow, as described. It will be well worth it and 30X faster. Look up the term 'rod buster'. Done it, and think about it every time I need reminding to be thankful.

I've decided not to read any more of the arm chair experts comments. This couple is trying really hard to do a good job. They have gone to professionals for advice and are following it pretty well. The soil type they are dealing with would prevent the methods of trench and pour used in other areas. They are using far more reinforcing than is common in most areas of the country. They have located it vertically at the proper spacing. Spacing of the rebar to the forms is adequate, normal would be 1.5" for 47B aggregates. Good job, done better than many contractor would have.

Make shore it is all ready, wait if you need to. make sure the mix is right in the high heat, have lots of help. Your doing a good job have done this many times it all ways takes time to get all the details done. more often than not the concrete co can make or break your pour in so many ways talk to them, and the drivers they can save your bacon. LOL The nice thing with having a pump truck they can help you with this. footers pours go well and fast you will need to take a few days to enjoy what you have done relax mind, body, ect and take your time the next week cleaning thing up. Have all tools, water, give trucks a place to clean out ect ready for the pour. cat prints and your marking will make this day a fun one.
