Guess what… it’s FINALLY POUR DAY! We’ve been waiting for this day for years, and we’re shocked at how quickly it came. While we were hoping to have poured a day sooner, we’re still amazed at how quickly we were able to excavate the homesite, do the form work and get the green light on the pour. After this we get to work on our draining, stacking our ICF walls, and before long we’ll be ready for our second pour of the build!

James H Rings are one of the worst things to have on when you are working with equipment or plants as any injury or allergic reaction can cause the finger it is on to start swelling up. 9 times out of 10 they have to cut the ring to get it off. No reason to look for a ring on a smart person. If they wish to have a ring and not have it at risk they have it on a chain around the neck but that still is a risk of losing it if the chain breaks. On people that work with high voltage they often will not even wear a watch let alone a chunk of metal directly touching skin. Metal workers also are known to not wear them as the heat can transfer to skin faster with a big heat sink.

I've watched quite a few of your videos, and it really made my day to hear you refer to Allyssa as a "Trooper" . I think one of the things I like best in your videos, is the fact that girl jumps right into anything you need done without hesitation. Even operating the heavy equipment.

Now I've seen everything. Thank you very much. I really appreciate this video. It was very considerate of you to post in a mode I can view. I'm trying to get a new computer, but at my age i'm at the bottom of the list. I found a picture of the solar house I built back in the late 70's. I'll try and post it. that's what gran kids are fore. Take care and God Bless.

Watching you two has given my great joy. A friend of mine wanted to build a log cabin. I told him we could do it. It took us 2 1/2 years. I know what it's like to do each part and the joy you get from doing a job and knowing you did it right. The logs were in a kit, but that made it a lot easier. Keep up the good work!!!

Now that went smoothly! Before going to bed last night, writing this at 8 in the morning, I hoped that this video would be up for my breakfast. It was, and it was GREAT. You should be very proud of yourselves. My only regret is that living in Sweden I can't rush over and help you. You two have an amazing relationship that hopefully will help you completing this and many more challenges.

I been waiting to see the waste pipe go in, and water lines. Now they have to digg under the fottings? At least in sweden we digg in the pipes/electrical first and then later pour the slabs. Great video! still its amazing what these 2 people are doing.

Seismic Design Category A, B, and C for residential construction permits stabbing of verticals without 90° hooks. I picked a random spot in Idaho and the seismic design values were SDC B, so that's what they are probably using. For SoCal, Bay Area, and Sierra's (historically seismic zone 4), this is a no-go even for residential construction. For this application the connection is considered a shear-only connection so does not require the same development normally expected.

As someone who is a code guy, 1). you want to direct the water around your house not under your slab. 2). You don't need two Ufer grounds or check continuity. You only check continuity on manufactured homes and factory built houses that arrive in multiple pieces. So you check continuity in the electrical systems of the front various pieces. 3). If you're going to have conditioned space above your slab you really really really should have included a vapor barrier and capillary break. The dry air created by your air-conditioner will draw tons of water through your slab and destroy any flooring you put on it.

I have been in construction for about ten years so still new to it..but it just goes to show you half the ppl in the comments are just dumb because if you passed the inspection and they poured the concrete then your doing a great job... I hate getting on KZbin and watching you all work so hard then ppl put you down so bad they are just jealous I guess Idk. But you all are doing a great job there is many ways to do stuff in construction just because it's not like someone else does not mean it's not right or going to pass inspection
@kevinrichter5879

I don't know if they are doing it right or wrong, as for the inspection they are in an area that all that was needed was a plot plan of where the building is going. They have no inspectors or codes they have to follow, there are still places like that in rural parts

Not to negate the TREMENDOUS amount of work you both have put into all the thing you did to prepare for this day,like the water system and all the other things you have done. I have watched you both work side by side and stand in awe. You are both committed to the project and in spite of some of your frustrations setbacks and disappointments you have kept on keeping on. Big thumbs up and pats on your backs. Boo to all the naysayers, critics and armchair quarterbacks. Just do us all a favor, take some time off, a couple of days at least, while the footing dry and get some rest. Have a celebratory drink and have some fun. You both deserve it! Congratulations!👍🏻

The release bond is just one of many issues. Where's the mechanical consolidation? Wet setting straight rebar instead of J's or at least L's? Not wetting the ground for a neat pour and pouring at over 100F is just asking for curing issues. Especially because I didn't see them wet anything down afterwards and lay over some visqueen to eliminate evaporation. I can keep going.

90° or 180° hooks on the ends are only needed if the rebar needs to be fully developed at the transition between the footing and the wall. If the engineer designed the house to use the 1st floor as a diaphragm then the engineer only needs shear transfer at the footer/wall transition, and not moment capacity. If that is what the engineer specified, then they don't need L or J hooks.

@cjandauntieyaya1446

If you work in construction you sadly might develop a potty mouth. Not a reflection on your maturity or education. It just happens because things go wrong all the time and it is hard work. Hot, frustrated peeps tend to get a little "colorful" in their vernacular. Those in nice air condition and working on the computer in an ergonomic chair have less intense physical stress and are thus more able to control their "emotional outbursts". Oh and dealing with rabid fans who call us engineers "trolls" can wear us down to the point that we will cuss. Don't expect perfect behavior from the victims of constant unwarranted attacks.
