Hey, looks like you didn't have reviews in a while. Thanks, mate. Enjoyed this one

+Sergey Shevchenko I know, I keep getting held back it's maddening. Luckily though, I'll have some more this week. About time! Glad you enjoyed it!

I agree with Bad Wolf. This review was somewhat disappointing. You gave this Debian System a free passport. It didn't take away that you are definitely one of the most interesting operating system reviewers of all time! Your style is unique...the way you pause as if you're in brownstudy. With the exception of this particular video, you don't come across as hasty (in decision making). Looking forward to your reviews on HardenedBSD (with Gnome 3), Tribblix, Slackware and Porteus. Also, I look forward to your reviews of XFCE, AWESOME , DWM, JWM and OpenBox window managers. You have a unique numbering scheme on top of the screen and you seem so committed to finding a decent operating system. You are the very first to disappoint, but yet your unique presentation style irks me on to suscribe. I definitely look forward to your reviews. Keep those obscure OS reviews coming.

PureBrowser is not just rebranded Firefox. Unlike Firefox its built in extension / plug in/ add-on repo excludes any unfree software.

Isn't ~750MB of RAM about average for Gnome? If you were on xfce or MATE I would be concerned, but that really doesn't look outrageous to me.
@lhuser7 жыл бұрын
+nathan cooley That amount of RAM used makes me think of KDE, not Gnome. Either way, I still recommend a minimum of 2GB of RAM for the best experience.

any plans on try sparky linux 5.1 xfce on the pentium 2 box? and whats systemd?
@lhuser7 жыл бұрын
My pentium 2 machine is no more I'm afraid, but I do plan on revisiting this distro very soon. Systemd is an init system, replacing sysV and others. It's also attracted a lot of hate for violating the free open source foundation and some programs now force systemd down your throat. Read more here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Systemd

PureOS 8 Beta 1 does not give a great OOBE. It is simply the worst Debian distro out there. You really cannot give a proper review of a distro from experience in a VM. I installed it to bare metal for a week and I have to say that beta or not, PureOS does not give a good impression. It leaves the user feeling frustrated. What's easy to do in a Ubuntu based distro, is not easy in some Debian based distros. PureOS being one of the worst OOBE ever. Let's get to the resource usage. It runs at a base of around 600 at boot. Not bad for how Gnome is now. Gnome is pretty bloated these days compared to back in the day. So with that said, it's pretty light on the resources in comparison to stock Gnome. So, there's that. Ease of use: You gave it a 9 simply because it's Debian based. You stated that Ubuntu is based on Debian which is true, but, as I stated above is very true. Also, with how Debian is these days, it's not easy anymore. So, maybe brush up on how Debian is these days. Ubuntu is by far the easiest distro to use. It's come so far away from Debian that it is basically it's own now. Flexibility: You stated that since it's uses Debian's repos that it's flexible and you gave it a 10 simply because of that fact. Debian is no longer flexible like it used to be. Neither is PureOS. Look & Feel: As you said: "It's Gnome." I agree with you totally. You either like the look of base Gnome or you don't. Your review is chock full of assumptions over the fact it's based on Debian. When was the last time you used Debian, or Linux for that matter? Not to sound disrespectful, but, with all the assumptions you've expressed in this video, it's seems like it's been quite awhile. Anyway, here are my results: OOBE: 5 Ease of Use: 5 Flexibility: 4 Look & Feel: 8 Overall Score: 6 In conclusion: PureOS isn't the worst distro in the pond, but, it's in the bottom 100 of the worst.

I'll be honest here: it has been a while since I haven't used any distro. Despite using assumptions based on website reviews, I DESPISE any Debian derived distros AND Debian itself. It never booted for me, on 6 different versions, 3 different machines, yet it's a cancer spreading distro. I've always rooted with openSUSE. I have to use a VM because the capture card I bought is retarded and won't display my screens. Making things worse, my main rig is gone due to financial issues amd quite frankly, I'm thinking seriously after 12 years of this to just cut the two channels and call it an end. I have people who look foward to my next reviews but damn, I want to male it a most ridiculous review and boy do I like reviewing physical machines... It sucks that this went to you being mislead but I just can't make such testing happen anymore. I know you were constructive and your score, I fully respect. I guess I just can't do these seriously (who besides me loses it over no wallpaper?!).

Thank you for replying. If my words came across as harsh, I do apologize. I quit using Debian/Ubuntu based distros quite sometime ago, because of the directions both have taken. I have been using Arch in my day to day life, plus Slackware. I am also working on my own distro, which has undergone many base changes. Only because I wanted the easiest to use for users. But, I have settled on Arch as it's base. It's simple and in my opinion stable. Unless you go out of your way to break it. As for wallpaper, it's just eh for me. Reason being that you can easily do a web search for anything that you'd want. Or use personal pics you took yourself. My distro has 2 distro specific wallpaper, along with the base Arch Xfce wallpapers. With that said, again I do apologize if I came across as being harsh. Also, thanks once again for taking the time to reply.

Bad Wolf Plays hey man, quick question, if i were interested on a laptop such as the librem 15, would it be a bad purchase? I’m very much a newbie as of now and am unaware of better options on the market, any advice is deeply appreciated :]
