Today I will be looking at something I've always wanted to have. Will it stand up to my expectations or fail miserably?

The most honest review is from someone that has no clue, luved it when he almost melted his temp. scanner. They have a new version Baku 601D+, same specs. , gonna buy it after this review. Gave him a thumbs up for pure entertainment and for showing what I was wanting to know. Thank you.

"This thing" is an SMD component popper. Insert the spring legs under the part and heat it. When it comes loose the spring legs will lift it off the board.

It is incorrect to measure the temperature directly on the gun or on soldering tip with such IR thermometer. Better heat some surface with it and then measure the actual working t. Even better, use bi-metallic thermocouple. I've bought this baby from the same place and pretty happy with it. For larger jobs I use more powerful iron. Also, you can buy different tips for it in China, and be advised, that these tips are containing the heating coil / ceramic.

I have one like that, I would like to purchase some extra heater element for the soldering (tip), I do not find any information about the Voltage rating and how many Watt. It is cheaper to change the heater element than to order a new. Please if you know the answer to my question let me know. Thank you.

You can’t take the temperature of shiny metal with an infrared pyrometer and expect to get accurate results. The metal surface is to reflective. In order to get an accurate temp, the surface should be a dark, non reflective surface.

Nice unit. It will take some trial and error to figure out how it works. Start with some boards that are already trashed. Just practice removing things and you'll get the hang of it. I have a Yahua soldering station $25.00 from hobbyking. It works great and the tips are really cheap.

Where do I get replacement tips ie. are there part numbers for them?

Check this link out. It has three different types of tips in one package. www.amazon.ca/Original-Soldering-Station-BK-601D-BK-878L2/dp/B00XI27D4S

Thank you for the timely reply. The link you provided states that the product is not in stock and they do not know when, or if, it will be restocked. Surely there are second parties that would be able to supply these, rather than going to the original manufacturer. I am just not sure which model number of tips would fit. Is it the 900M series??

You have that heat bracket on there wrong mate. The blower is supposed to sit on the angled bracket not hang from it.

+Sharpeyed Watcher That's odd. I always placed it like the picture shown...interesting. I'll fix it, thanks for the heads up.

no offence but that's a crappy way to solder wire. Heat the wire just off to one side of intended join or under it then touch solder to the hot wire and it should flow across and you will see the wire seem to soak the molten solder up like a sponge. set temp to lowest point where the solder can move through the solid to plastic to liquid stages as quickly as possible without damaging the parts being worked on. too low a temp and the solder remains in the plastic stage too long making your joints brittle. these are electrical not mechanical connections and a little dab will do ya and a big gob will screw ya

well would have been nice if you used it to remove solder or a chip from a mother board

Yo I-RON it is iron and you should have check the heat at the tip of the solder iron and with the hot air it is dependent on air flow speed. So to properly check the heat you should have heated an object then pointed the laser gun at that object. Then repeat that with different air flow speeds. Last your wire needed Flux. This is why I gave you a thumbs down for poor science.
