How are they for heavier metalish kind of things? Not a metal player, but have gone heavier... They sound great imo!

7 years later lol.. The gap in the middle allows dead center on the head to breathe.. I would also think that it eliminates any muffling by center wires.. I think that makes sense ;)

These sound amazing! Ive been looking for some new snare wires to replace the ones I got that were pretty cheap. Ive got a vintage Rogers Powertone snare drum, I am about to enter the studio and am looking to get the perfect snare tone. Those Equalizers sound perfect, I may go with those. Your review really helped me out, thanks man!!!!

Thanks for such a great video! I just bought both the Custom Pro and the Equalizer 16 strand. Looking forward to a vastly improved snare sound on my Ludwig Evolution Maple. Just getting back into "drum world" and looking forward to getting some USA Ludwig snare drums again some day.

Dude, I just subscribed to your channel. That's a good review of the Puresound equalizer snares. The toms ring out real nice without any extra snare sympathetic vibrations. Peace, brother. :)

I have found that the quick release pins slip through the holes and then the wires are left dangling.

I have used the custom pros for 10 years or so, just put a set of blasters on my maple drum. I didn't like them at first because they are so much louder than the custom pros, but I like them now after a few weeks of playing. I'm thinking I'll put a set of these on my brass snare and see if I like them. Thanks for the video!

Nice review, although I wish you could have done all the trials with a standard coated Amabassador for a basic reference between all 3 models. But well done!

Just ordered a set of the 12 strand Equalizer wires for my old Ludwig Acrolite and Mapex Piccolo drums. I want the tone of the shell to come thru more. Hoping these wires bring that out.

I think the equalizers are only available in 13" and 14", but some of their snares are available all the way down to 8"

I've had nothing but headache's with wires from Tama. All Tama snares I've had ( granted, only two of them, ) have given me terrible buzzing. Not just sympathetic buzz, this terrible sound that I'm not sure how to explain. I put on a random set of Puresound wires on my snare, and it sounded so much better. I'm curious to experiment more with wires.

Hey Rob, just subscribed to you brother, love the videos. Anyways, I had a question. You changed your head to a brighter G1 ( I use the G2, Love'em). Did you try using the Pro on the G1 to see if it gave the same fullness in sound? This may have already been asked, I'm sorry for the repeat if it has. I just got my Pro in today and put it on my snare which is an old steel Tama snare. It wasn't that good of a snare before but now it sounds like a brand new snare. I actually like it. I'm after a Pure Stave walnut snare from Natal but until I get it I feel good knowing my snare doesnt sound half bad. Pure Sound really does work.

@@benjaminpeljto7408 within the last few days I just decided to instead order Canopus Vintage which sounds more like what I’m looking for. But the Equalizer wires are still a good quality option. These wires are for a Gretsch Broadkaster snare.

@@tmaddrummer howd you make out.ive heard the canopus (or as I thought at first "can-o-piss") wires are great
@tmaddrummer
@tmaddrummer 3 жыл бұрын
@@NintenDub the 20 strands vintage Canopus made the magic for me. The Canopus 20 strands just have a bit more control and less unwanted buzz over the Puresound 30 strands. In all honesty, they were both made with great quality and it came down to the number of wires. The 42 strands that came from Gretsch with the snare was not good for me, but I do use 42 strands with a Ludwig Acrolite that is super good. Lots of experimenting and learning and the throw off mechanisms and hoops do make a difference as well.

@@tmaddrummer I have a gretsch 4160, and I had the exact same experience with the stock 42. Just sounded choked to me. The puresound super 30 wires were just all buzz. Hated them. These sound good enough to the point I might give puresound another shot.

@dbert1024

I've been trying to reach this sound too, and my current set-up is very close to it, although not perfect. I use Evans EC2 2-play heads on top with the Evans dampening rings held down with spray adhesive and Evans Genero Reso heads on the underside of the tom. I tune the reso heads slightly lower than the batter head as well. If you have a DrumDial tuner, my reso numbers are around 75 and my batter heads are around 78-80. Couple that set-up with some good snare wires and minimal buzz and I was able to get that tom sound.
