Got admit. The idea of the rich not even considering that the help might have their own agenda is delicious. There's karma and then there is karma. Got to admit the fact that much of the help were people of color (who as per the movies are particularly targetted by the government death squads) was also satisfying.

It's one of their massive blind spots. They protect themselves well against the angry or desperate mobs of commoners like us quite well, but they take the servants for granted. A similar thing happens in a novel, Retrotopia. As the US collapsed, the wealthy retreated to their guarded compounds to wait out the chaos, sure they'd be safe there. And they were -- until the security guards and servants quietly picked a night, then went room to room to kill them before disappearing into the night. They didn't even bother to loot their belongings. It was purely revenge.

@@haylene7521It's a TV show that takes real life exploitation and adapts it into a more concise and dramatic display of that exploitation. Rich people's lifestyles do in fact come at the expense of very impoverished people all over the world, including some of those people's lives.

I prefer seson 2 more because its about how they "control " THE Purge an what happens after the Purge. Then how the law an the government works in between Purge nights . It basically answers alot of questions about that universe.

But it's almost more stupid because you have to imagine that the cost of all that surveillance and control would be ridic, especially when you add it to the cost of cleanup and repair that has to happen every year. Oh, and let's not forget that eventually you are going to start to run short on Zippy Maids, qualified body disposal people, construction workers, electricians, etc. We also can't forget about all of the orphans and the systems that would be massively overworked, understaffed, and expensive as hell. A lot of those orphans would have killed their own parents for stupid teen angst reasons, meaning that they are just as likely to kill their new adopted/foster parents next year. The more you think about it, the more stupid the entire premise becomes.

@@LucianDevineYou realize the US has quite a lot of money right? And ultimately the premise is about keeping the rich rich, and whatever systemic issues arise from the purge would burden the working class and lead to more poverty which would further justify the existence of the purge. Systemic issues don't affect the ruling class the way it affects everyone else and they deliberately target people who are economic drains. The whole thing operates like a business cutting costs and corners which affects the workers and consumers. You're far too concerned with realism to begin with but you really haven't thought this through as much as you think you have. One thing rich people are good at is dealing with numbers.

Well not every revolution is a success for the people such as the Russian revolution in 1905 which just ended up killing 20,000 serfs and imprisoned another 75,000 in poor conditions

Probably because it was a short lived USA network TV series. With two sessions each consisting of like 12 episodes each. Non spoilers the first session is similar to the movies but the send session is much better. Because it starts with Purge night ending so you see how the government "controls " the Purge then it shows what happens efter the Purge an how the government an law works. Each season is about different people so it doesn't matter what order you watch them.

I don't know how they heard the suppressors sound at that distance, like I know it reduce the sound of the gas exiting the barrel but still makes a bit of sound. But you have to be really really close like next room close to hear it.

Still makes a lot of sound. Film makes it sound like this whispy sound. Real suppressors still make a loud pop sound. Which can be heard pretty far.

I think the fact it’s a distopia helps a lot with the suspension of disbelief. And the popularity goes to show that the audiences resonate with the chaos athmosphere and the whole social message of “rich people want to kill you, violent criminals want to kill, you everyone wants to kill you”.

the first season takes place in 2027, and the second season between 2036 and 2037, thus the series is set between the events of the films Anarchy and Election Year.

While they are defiantly the more violent and dehumanizing of the two parties. Supporters would say it’s Dems who are rich and elitist and violent. Like how tzarists would say communists are the out of touch violent ones but communist would say it’s the tzar who murders crowds and lives in a palace. No evidence could convince anyone otherwise either way since everyone only uses the “good” examples of their own politicians and calls their own bad ones “exeptions” or “not representative of the whole”. But then go and use the real worse ones to explain their views on the opposition.

⁠@@noahbueno2168this was before that. Bishop died during purge election year (Carmelo did die like 20 years before). After that election year purge the politician main character Roan won the presidency and she banned the purge for her 8 years (after which the NFFA was re-elected and we go the forever purge in the last movie).
