Just get a basic gravity fed filter that you can slowly filter with. And get a sealable metal jug. For most water you can just filter and boil, then you're good to go. These packets are nice to have as well so you can collect water from dirty sources as an option when water is hard to find. I'd recommend treatment packs, filter, and something to boil with.

This is a great tool, I have 1 of these with 10 treatment packs in my car. But I also keep a gravity fed water filter and a metal jug for storage/boiling. The P&G treatment packs work great, but I wouldn't bet my life on them, and with drinking water you are betting your life. Honestly, if you can find clean water your best bet is to filter and boil. I would save the treatment packs for dirty water when you can't find anything else still filter and boil after.

Hi, Yea this is just a first step, next you want to run it through a carbon filter to reduce the residual chlorine and then a physical barrier for bacteria. The idea is that you take the water that is clear in the middle and then you can use it in a Sawyer mini (filtershop.co.za/en/sawyer-mini-puribag-combo-pak) or a Water-To-Go bottle (filtershop.co.za/en/500ml-water-to-go-puribag-combo). The bag doesn’t separate water from dirt, gravity goes. Any bag would do the same and then all you would need is to boil it or use purification tablets. This thing isn’t unique, you could do the same thing with a garbage/shopping bag.

In the military we had purification tablets. In panama we search for water anywhere including a mud hole. We would fill up our canteen with the muddy water. Put a tablet in there and wait. The water was safe to drink, but it tasted like mud. That's how I hydrated myself for a whole month in the panama jungle

Too little water. Thw separation of particles is great to get rid of organic matter and dirt, but that is only the first part of the process. I would filter the "clear" watter and add a clorine tablet to it before drinking. In a survival situation this is the very first thing you have to do. Gather water and let it settle untill particles go to the bottom. Meanwhule, you setup camp, go back and get it ready for a clorine tablet and leave it like that again for a while. You have time to make fire or setup traps or setup fishing lines, etc. Then, after 30 to 60 minutes with the clorine tablet, you can start drinking, but gather more water inmediately. If you have to move, take those 30 minutes to prepare your stuff and leave a full bag hanging until it is clear. You can then add the clorine tablet and start walking, after 1 hour walking you will have water to drink safely
