Michael Penix had his pro day today and probably shocked a lot of people with a 4.5 40 and a 36.5" vertical. I think that changes things. With how good he looks the Vikings can definitely stick and pick. No need to trade up at all.

I'm torn on this. I would love to move up, but not at the cost of next Year's 1st rounder. However with Penix and his injury history, it scares me. Maybe if we stick and pick we can start Penix right away and if he sucks or gets hurt, we would still have next Years 1st and could draft another QB again. Ala Arizona with Murray and Rosen in back to back Years!

@@electricpuddle1320 Odds are you would win that bet. There are 6 excellent QB prospects of which Penix is just one. I think the Casinos have McCarthy the favorite with Nix second Maye 3rd. I would be happiest with No trade up and McCarthy at 11 Followed by Nix, Penix and Maye in that order. If we do trade up I'd be happiest with going to 4 and using nothing more than 11 and 23. Assuming Williams and Daniels are gone I'd go for McCarthy.

A real good angle to look at is it possible that KOC is already sold on Penix and the reason he’s doing more research on McCarthy and Maye is he’s making sure he’s not missing something on them to like one of them better than he likes Penix? To see if it’s even worth trading up for one of them? Maybe that 23 pick was to ensure they can go after Penix at 11 and use the 23 or package the 23 with a couple other day 3 picks to move up into the teens to grab a DT? I know this thought triggers a lot of listeners but it is worth taking into consideration and does really make a lot of sense. KOC feels he can coach up any of these QBs and Kwesi loves to try and get value. Maybe this is the plan?

Maye has a far bigger ceiling than McCarthy. More experience, better size, great arm strength, same age as McCarthy at 21. I think they want Maye. He is also harder to bring down when scrambling. Ive seen that over and over on film.

Maye's are definitely isn't stronger then McCarthy's as far as velocity. But his arm is more talented with the angles and touch he has and how he can manipulate a ball where McCarthy is kinda like Farve and everything is just rocketed​@@MatthewSchilken

I watch day 1 of the draft every year. My wife and kids make fun of me for doing so... but I have NEVER been more excited for day 1 of the draft than this year... just so many opportunities and options. I think so many people correctly have designated this day 1 draft to be a pivot point for this entire franchise. Good or bad it all hinges on day 1 of this draft.

Protecting future assets is a consideration, for sure, but one has made the argument many times, that if a pick hits, no one is going to care ifi we threw in the 2025 first rounder.

In 1995, Minnesota and Tampa Bay had two first round picks, and a 1996 first round pick. They didn't trade up for Kerry Collins [and miss out on Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks] or for Steve McNair. Those teams, by sticking to their picks, had a chance to draft Sapp, Ty Law, and Ray Lewis.

Just trade JJ and get your qb, trade back up from 11 to get one of the top 3 receivers, use pick 23 on interior o-line or d- line you save a ton of money not paying JJ 30 mil. a year, you still have picks left in the draft and you still got next year's 1st round pick, it's the smart move to make.

None of them are sure things. You're betting on ceiling when you draft a QB. It's better to draft the kid that has the Josh Allen ceiling vs a nix who probably is at his peak already. Nix and penix could be good QBs but teams don't want a good QB that's what cousins was they want the great QB like mahomes, Allen, Herbert. So you take that risk if they bust they bust but if they don't you're set for a decade with a guy that can win you a SB vs a good QB like cousins/nix

After seeing Michael Penix pro day, I would feel comfortable drafting him at 11 now more so than trading up for McCarthy at 4 or 5. He ran a 4.46 (unofficial) 4.53 (official) 40. Many thought he was immobile. This is in the same ball park as Rome Odunze's 40 time. Also his career sack rate and sack avoidance rate behind a patchy OL at Washington is 2.5%. This shows he has elite pocket presence. And given his 40 time, I feel like if he needs to, he can take off and run. Significantly more mobile than most qbs in todays nfl. Edit: Only concern is his knees. But if he never injured those, I bet he’d be in conversation for number 1 overall. He has the best pocket presence of all QBs and his speed/agility would also be better.

The big difference with the vikings than Denver, L.V.R, N.Y.G. we have a extra 1st pick they don't have 2 1st round picks in 2024 draft. They can only give 2 future's 1st picks the can offer 2 1st picks + 1 future's pick. The only team is going to move up would be minnesota. If Arizona stay at 4, & L..A.C at 5 stay. Guys like the energy of the show and absolutely love the opening when Kirk screams I’ll Ride with this Team lol too funny. Much respect Kirk for getting the BAG, Vikes did you a huge favor creating phantom leverage as a going away present. Washington is going to want to draft Drake Maye. Bottomline Washington DC is a dumpster fire!! Terrible City, bad Franchise, very little talent, and I’m being kind. He goes there he is thrown to the wolves immediately never reaches potential. Judd talks about how important that these kids go to the right spot, and he is correct. If Maye wants to play for the Vikes, which has everything DC doesn’t it’s simple. Elway 83 Eli 2006. I assume he has educated parents and is repped by CAA. Dad simply says our family and Drake wants to play for Vikings, get it done and earn your money bitches! Personally I think he is the number one Pro QB prospect in the draft. I personally don’t like immature 6’1” nail polish wearing pink phone case accessories QB’s (I hope Bears are not getting second thoughts). I do think Team Maye will tell Washington he isn’t playing there. That leaves Washington with three options 1. Draft Jayden 2. Trade with Vikes for 3 #1’s 3. Do a Irsay and draft him anyway which eventually leads to a trade with the Vikes. It is simply a matter of having the balls to look out for your best interests and an Agent and family behind you. Worse thing you lose a season not a terrible thing he will most likely be first in the following draft especially after showing balls. Look if he was my kid I would want to protect and guide the kid. I have two sons of my own one a West Point Graduate a Captain with 1/75 Ranger Regiment and another with USAF Security Forces finishing his education during stints in Germany and two in South Korea. Bottomline you want your sons to roll with the best and develop and reach their highest point. You don’t settle and be thankful to be drafted by a dumpster fire. You take the road less traveled not the worn out sheep path. Maye has to hold firm and he will eventually be with KOC and in the best situation possible. Sit watch Sam, which I’m surprisingly interested to see if he pulls a Jim Plunkett. Sam was grossly mishandled and I think KOC likes the possibilities.

Hope you include this in one of the shows. I honestly think this kid is smart and understands he has leverage. Make these Agents work! Like I said if I had a son that was in Drake position I would say use your leverage and force yourself to Vikings. It can be done you just need the intestinal fortitude. Eli got two SB Elway two also with an absolute great career. Think what would have happened with Colts or Chargers. Kid now’s the time to take the path less traveled the one that leads to what’s best for you!

I think Washington has the same issues as New England. Howell wasn’t the issue and neither was Mac Jones. They both need o-lines before adding a QB. So I wouldn’t be surprised if we get to 2.

And we are a good LG from being a top 10 line. 2 pro bowl tackles, Ingram rated as the 16th best guard in the league and Bradbury is atleast average and if you put a stud to his left his weakness doesn't get exposed as much. They were a top 5 line for 8 weeks last year then Kirk went down and they looked bad because the backups made them look bad and the injuries

I'm far from locked in on the Vikings taking Penix but his 40 time and vert opened my eyes to him. Everybody acts like he's certain to get injured. Prior injuries are not a guarantee of future injuries and no prior injuries are not a guarantee of no future injuries. I don't believe Penix is much more likely to get injured than any of the other top QB prospects.

Stand pate at 11 if 1 of the top 4 fall then make the pick at 11 , if not trade down from 11 to the 16-20 pick and collect a day 2 pick at 23 make the pick or trade down and collect another day 2 pick ( take penix at 23 or trade down to 27 -31 and take penix ( penix is NFL ready and doesn't require 3 first rd picks plus day two of this draft has much needed talent for o-line and D-line , build our roster not someone else's roster ( penix is the smart move). Let someone else over pay . Penix is lighting up his pro day , vikings need to schedule a private work out , we need a center , guard and nose tackle , cb, safety, linebacker. But in the end just get a QB , whether it's, Maye, Mccarthy, penix, just get one !! There won't be another QB draft like this one for the next 10 years . Heck Bo nix in any other year would be a top 10 pick . Just get one.
