His problem is that he was deficient in his tackling. Big hitter, tall but problems wrapping up and tackling. The UDFA the Vikes signed, on the other hand, Dwight McGlothern, was an absolute steal. Ball hawk, versatility, speed and great tackler.

Just to remind people desperate for a guard or corner, we are not done with the process. JJ and Turner are basically 20 years old. 2024 is a test drive before we buy the car in 2025. Those holes and team needs you are clamoring about WILL be addressed once they lock everything into place. They WILL acquire more picks, they WILL trade for impact players. They will go full Rams if JJ is a hit. If he's not a hit, they will go full Rams and trade for someone else since they didn't trade the future for him.

The fact that PD comes out of the gate discussing the kicker pick may tell you something about the Vikings Day 3 picks. I actually like the Khyree Jackson pick. His age and issues 3+ years ago dropped him down but he can play. All the other picks on Day 3 suggests they turned the draft over to Grigson. I thought there were some players on the board that could have helped the team in those last two rounds. 7th round was ??? I know, it's the 7th round. Looks like they're doing well with UDFA's.

@@electricpuddle1320 Well there is no question about that, and Rick used to grab guys at the end of draft f that no one had heard of. I can't remember many, if any, of those picks panning out. Look, 6th and 7th rounders are usually at best depth pieces and many are out of the league in 3 years. I don't like it when guys are drafted that could have been easily picked up as UDFA's. The irony is that the Vikings are signing several UDFA's that I think offer more than some of these picks, so I guess it's a wash. Btw, I think a good PK is valuable, it's just that history doesn't show that drafting one is a good idea.

Agree with Judd that Rick's constant trading back to win the "I've got the most Day 3 picks" award was tiresome and unproductive. Very happy to see the Vikings land McCarthy. While I like the selection of Turner, I didn't like the cost in terms of draft capital. Worst thing about this draft was the failure to address the team's biggest weaknesses at IOL and DT. If they had traded back from 23, they could have upgraded both positions with starting caliber players. Banking on sixth and seventh round picks to fill those gaps is most often an exercise in wishful thinking. Meanwhile, we have just three draft picks remaining for next year's draft. I believe McCarthy and Turner will be long term stars, and Jackson has a good shot as a long term starter. Very happy about those picks. Does this coaching staff really want to send McCarthy out there against defenses with an IOL of Brandel, Bradbury and Ingram in front of him?

Second best FG kicker in college in 2023 but passed on the best, Cam Little of Arkansas who went 10 spots later to the Jaguars. Little has greater distance, 60+ and wrapped up his career as the most accurate kicker in program history by making 82.8% of his field goals and never missing an extra point in his three season career.

Why are people either balls to the walls on McHandoff or hate him??? He has a ton to prove. He handed the ball off 90% of the time and passed 8 to 10 times a game on average. Asking a kid to throw 30 to 40 times a game in the NFL with NO running game is suicide for him. Aaron Jones is 30 and could fall offvthe cliff like Cook did so Im holding my breath on the Vikings running game. Unless the Raiders overpaid for the #10 spot I don't understand the need to move up to draft McCarthy. Did anyone think the Jets would take the Broncos call to move up? I'd have gambled and trusted that the Jets weren't drafting a QB or trading with the Broncos. This reminds me of last year with the Lions. I'd much rather have went Dallas Turner then JJ if they were both available. I guess good on Kwesi and KOC for "getting their guy" but I'm not buying the hype. Hope I'm wrong as I want this community to win a 'chip in either in the NBA or NFL, but I don't think JJ will lead you to the promised land.

This will be the draft that leads to the firing of Kwesi and ultimately KOC. A home run would of been drafting one of the top 3 QB's. The drop off from tier 1 to Tier 2 was huge... And then a complete fall off to the rest. JJ has about a 70/30 shot at being Mac Jones or Zach Wilson. You could blow up future drafts for the top 3 QB's this draft but not JJ. The thing is no one knows. It's all wishful thinking. Compensatory picks aside , they burned this yrs and next yrs draft chances to draft depth. Problem with JJ is that he has a high floor and low ceiling like the aforementioned Mac Jones. He will be helped with the weapons he has but it will only carry him so far. Just like Mark Sanchez and Matt Ryan. Weapons on offense and defense can make you a winning team but QBs that come in the league with a high floor and low ceiling can only take you so far.. you can throw Tebow in there also. Viking fans get blindly behind whoever the team chooses. Ponder, Sam Bradford, Cousins, Dobbs. It's like the team and us fans just want winning records and being competitive.

Kwesi shits the bed in this draft when he trades a lot of our next year's draft capital to move up to pick #17. Should have traded back from pick #23 and easily could have gotten a stud interior offensive and interior defensive lineman. We already got two edge players in free agency. Yes, Dallas Turner is a solid pick, but we have other areas of need. This looks like Kwesi panicked from the listening to the nay sayers from the two previous drafts and overcompensated this year by trading up to try and get at least one starter from this year's draft! We have sold out are draft for the next two years and all the Viking fans are slobbering over Kwesi's first round popsicle. Somebody in our organization has got to tell the emperor (Kwesi) that he is wearing no clothes.

He didn't trade back but It's people like you that criticize his decision making of trading back in his first two drafts. So how about you? How about we understand as well that there's an undrafted free agency that many of these guys In all, positions can be assigned by the team and also try out within the off season Up to training camp and even during training camp into the preseason and see what the actual 53 will look like. Actually nobody knows at this point except the ones that we know are obvious decisions terms of starters

I'll just say the draft is not sold out for two years. We used zero 2026 picks to my knowledge. And the mid round picks are easily fixed with the comp picks and a trade down. Maybe trade a lower roster guy. Done!

Our running game will still stink with the interior line we have now maybe this gets addressed next year in free agency when the Vikes have a boat load of money to spend … the thinking are guards and centers so hard to evaluate in the draft it’s better to spend $ on proven linemen than spend draft picks ?
