i. Charitable trusts
ii. Miscellaneous, non-charitable trusts
iii. Re Denley trusts
A purpose trust not falling within one of the above categories is legally void (Re Astor’s Settlement Trusts [1952] Ch 534; Re Shaw’s Will Trust [1957] 1 WLR 729)

In this video you mention that there is academic support for the wider definition of the beneficiary principle being an accurate description of our law, despite valid purpose trusts appearing to undermine it. Do you have any references for that so I can read further into it? Thank you in advance!

Hudson talks about it in his textbook 'Equity & Trusts', Lord Upjohn implicitly talks about it in Vandervell v IRC [1967], and take a look at 'Equity and the Law of Trusts' by Pettit
