Got an opportunity to give a half-sword lesson to Ian LaSpina! Ian did a great job and it was awesome to perform the techniques against his harness.

Wow you guys just changed my entire paradigm of armor! It really is a skill! Proper technique equals better performance makes perfect sense when you considered that's true for all martial arts (including modern combat). I was really amazed at how well Reese could stand up against Ian because of his proper skill whereas I could tell Ian was laboring more to accomplish the same task. Thanks again for another great video. Shout out to Sir Ian of House LaSpina for introducing me to you guys!

Excellent crossover vid! A beneficial experience for both parties I would say! Can't wait for more harnischfechten technique videos (as you alluded to in this video), and can't wait to see Ian's new harness improvements on his channel! (While I generally prefer eclectically featured German harnesses like Reece's, I love Ian's new long faulds and the new rondels - both features temporally cement the harness closer to the 1415-1435 period, and the rondels are the perfect sweeping "concave-convex" that you see on the effigies)

ilikewasabe, well I've been doing this for some time now ;) Using proper technique helps me a lot to assist me in stepping. Since I only have one leg I do all my advancing and retreating with the one foot, so to help me complete my steps (passing steps mostly) I coil my back, calf, core and I launch my strikes. Still trying to sort out my prosthesis suspension system right now. I'll be creating a personal channel soon to illustrate what I do. Thanks for the comment! -Reece

@VietnamWarSummarized
@VietnamWarSummarized 6 жыл бұрын
+Persuing The KnightlyArts Also another sidenote is, your wooden leg is just plain unprotected wood, in a mid battle situation back in the medieval era, is having a unarmored wooden leg risky, because a sword can cleave through it with 2-3 strikes, what is the best form of armor can you use to protect it, mail or gambeson, also you should be VERY careful when sparring with a wooden leg, a poleaxe could accidently hit it and break it, thus requiring replacment(just concerned about your safety)
@Hirosjimma
@Hirosjimma 6 жыл бұрын
Wrap an iron / steel sheath around it! Like how they did the iron mace handles with a wooden insert. That'll take the least amount of material and could be a historically viable solution.
@VietnamWarSummarized
@VietnamWarSummarized 6 жыл бұрын
+Hirosjimma thanks for ur answer, also may I ask, in your opinion, do you think historical fighting daggers (rondel dagger and knightly dagger) was used for utility such as cutting wood and eating,
@Hirosjimma
@Hirosjimma 6 жыл бұрын
Rondel probably not if it's one made with a triangular thrust only blade. for all fighting daggers with a thrust and cut blade I really wouldn't know, I haven't paid attention to this while looking at manuscript miniatures. But shouldn't I be asking these questions to you? your channel name suggest you could know about this ;)
