It’s kind of a relief to see someone so kindergarten for two years. My eldest is first grade and I feel like he really struggles with reading and I have to repeat the same kindergarten lessons periodically. It gave me a lot of anxiety about it.
@JentasticVintage262 жыл бұрын
Love this! My six year old(will be seven this summer) is repeating Kindergarten phonics this year. He is doing 1st grade math but I really felt the phonics wasn’t clicking yet, so we have repeated it. I am seeing that I will be doing the same with my five year old son(will be six this summer) for next school year. They both have very short attention spans and it’s taking longer for things to click than it did with my older kids. I’m like you, I’m not really worried about it as phonics is a subject that is really only taught until 3rd or so grade. Once reading/decoding is mastered, phonics drops off and is replaced by more difficult grammar. They will all reach the finish line in their own time. I’m trying to decide if we will stay with the same phonics moving forward(Saxon) or switch to a more affordable program.

I am where you were with keeping your son in kindergarten! last year was our first year of homeschool and my son was in K. however I focused more on play and experiences than on bookwork because I truly didnt feel like he was fully ready to dive into formal lessons. my hunch turned out right, as now he has shown signs of being ready. so we will be continuing with his kindergarten work, and delving into the first grade a bit as well! I have felt such immense guilt but I have to dig my heels in and cut out the outside noise. thank you so much for encouragement!

Dear Dina! You are such an inspiration!!! Thanks so much ❤ Love little Sol!!! Sooo cute 😍 You just opened my eyes about combining TGTB with CC which I never thought about before... We are doing Level K and Level 3 and it all started because of you!!! A few year ago I watched one of your videos whike researching "homeschooling", and You, yes, you got me hooked on TGTB. But we just took the leap of faith and recently started, mainly because we live outside the USA and it is hard (not to mention "expensive") for us to get pretty much anything down here. Please keep on the amazing job, because we need you!!! Blessings ❤

Omgggggggg I’m crying right now. I’m scared and need help and suggestions or tips. I’m afraid that my 5 year old may have to repeat her grade because of me but I’m so scared of the COVID 19 and refuse to send her to school without a vaccine. They just removed her from her school literally 20 minutes ago and I don’t know what to do or where to start. I thought they would provide materials and that I would have to submit quarterly and they told me this year is being done differently and I’m completely on my own and if I want her back in school building next year that I better hope she meets second grade expectations or she would have to repeat her grade. I’m so scared and feel so guilty if she’s left behind another year because of this pandemic and my anxiety.

Oh I'm so sorry! So you are going to homeschool her now for the rest of the year?

@@PursuingPeace That’s what I’m heading for. I’ve been on the phone all morning til now and can’t seem to get anywhere. I’m basically looking for something NYS CERTIFIED curriculum and instructions for a small fee but I can’t get through to anybody and K12 charges $500 per subject. That’s too much money. It’s a little over $2,000 for the year. and I called the number for the letter of intent I submitted for the curriculum and instructions and they said they no longer do that. That I’m completely on my own. I have abc.com but I’m looking for something more reliable to what’s being given in schools as far as books and materials. I’ve never done this before so I just don’t know where to start.

This video was so encouraging! So how old is Solomon now that he is going to 1st grade? I’m just curious because I’m in a similar situation with my son (his name is Solomon too!), we’ve done kindergarten for a year and I’m thinking to do one more year. He just turned 6, so technically he can be going to 1st grade so I feel the same that I don’t want him to be behind but I also feel like one more year of kindergarten would really benefit him.

Do you have any tips for a reluctant reader. I feel that my daughter is learning to read at a good pace, but she hates when it is time for her to read. We use TGATB and I have been cutting back on how much I have her read at a time, like per lesson we may only do half of the words and scentences on a lesson. I worry I'm not having her read enough by doing that though? It's hard to do the assessments because she will read one word, then stop and I have to refocus her. I dont wanna be too pushy and cause her to hate reading, but I want to make sure she is continuing to progress. 🙄
@PursuingPeace3 жыл бұрын
Oh sweet mama! I know exactly where you are. Have you tried the Beginner Books from TGTB? When we stopped Level K for a bit all we did is read one of those a day. I have give a sticker chart and that seemed to help him focus. For every ten books he read he could get a prize (like a bit of candy or 15 extra min of tablet time.) Reading eggs is another GREAT resource. You're doing the right thing mama! Just keep trucking....not pushing but encouraging her to keep reading. ❤

If a child is struggling with a concept (ex. Vowels) do you continue with the next lesson or do you pause and supplement?
@PursuingPeace3 жыл бұрын
It depends. TGTB is pretty good about going over vowels throughout Level K and some into Level 1. So I never felt like we needed more review. But if we got to the middle of Level 1 and they were still struggling then I would take time to review. Also....if you need to review more it doesn't take much. Maybe just go over vowel flashcards once each day, and/or find a video that explains the different vowels sounds. 😁 Hope this helps. ❤
@suleykagonzalez-okeefe20303 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This us our first year. She was in kinder at a public school last year. She's advanced in some kind concepts. She needs a little more review on others. I bought 1st grade but maybe I can download the K version and see if I should start with that instead. 🤔
