Great review. I’ve shot the mk5hd for the past 2 seasons and now have 3 rimfire matches on my mk4hd. IMO the mk4hd is a perfect fit for the rimfire world with the ability to parallax down to 25yards. I will say that I think the turrets are better and the glass slightly better on the mk5hd, but not $800 better. Leupold is gonna sell ALOT of these guys!

I was able to look at a mk4 and mk5 side by side with a leupold rep who spent 10-15 mins helping me figure out which one was best for my needs. Long story short, the biggest cost difference is in the lenses coatings. The mk5 meets the military’s abrasion standards with its diamond ceramic something coating. That coating is the bulk of the ball park $1,000 cost difference. The mk4 has a good, but not milspec coating. I went with the mark4 becaise for competition and hunting it seems to be the better scope, and I don’t need milspec abrasion coatings.

Great review, Josh. Quick question semi related. When moving scopes between rifles, are you splitting the rings and just moving the scope or does the whole assembly move?

The rimfire-unfriendly parallax, the wonky windage mark, and some bad QD experience made me sell my mark5 HD. Loved the glass, loved the elevation turret. I'm very interested in this. Thanks for giving us this review.

The web site only shows the 4.5-18 with the illuminated reticle and electronic level indicator with the PR1 (no Christmas tree) ret. While I don’t use it a lot, I use the Christmas tree enough for those switchy wind calls I’d like to have it. The PR1 is marked with a number every 5 mils not 2 like the others. Also, the mushy turrets where a big letdown when I played with one at a local store. Glass was tough to evaluate bc it was indoors and farthest thing away was only 85 yards.

@@PursuitofAccuracy I was more agreeing with what you said Len (~1:30m in this video) said they dials are not as “clicky” as the Mk5. Hey man! I bought my first cz because of you, and started being more serious with my shooting, all thanks to you! I recently bought a CZ 457 MTR, and it shot consistant 0.3-0.4 at 50 yards, then i changed the trigger pull weight on it and now i cant for the life of me get a better group than .9 at 50 yards, with the same ammo, what have i done wrong?

Love my mk 5's so thought I'd try out the new mk4 6-24x52. Ordered one up a little over a month ago. First impressions were great, turrets felt same as my mk 5, glass was good but not mk5 good, felt solid... mounted it up on my 7prc and went to the range. First 3 shots were good, 4th and something let go in the tube. Reticle was canted hard one way and the power ring had very little reistance when zooming in and out... sent it to leupold 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet from them. Really hoping the new mk4 isn't following the downward spiral of the old mk4
@PursuitofAccuracy5 ай бұрын
Sounds like that 7prc knocked the lens loose. Ouch
@chasewyant15405 ай бұрын
@PursuitofAccuracy yup, which is concerning cause it's a heavy gun and supressed and the 7prc doesn't have much recoil to begin with. Hoping it's just a fluke...

@philipejeuceoututkache5 ай бұрын
Hi Josh. After watching the video, some things bugs me for a 1.5K scope. First, maybe it's the camera, but it seems there's a lot of purple-ish chromatic aberration at "only 167 yards". Second, no flip cap, which is a shame from Leupold, knowing my 600 bucks Sightmark (Presidio in 5-30x56) get them. Then out of curiosity, I went on Leupold's site, and looked at the specs of the biggest Mk4 HD, the 8x32, and compared it to it's bigger sis, the MK5 7-35, but also another banger for the price the Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-36 (you tested the cheaper version, the match pro and said good things on it). With the a limited elevation of 20 mil, and an apparently lower glass quality, I'm hard to convince Leupold will sell a lot of Mk4, at least in 8-32, versus what Bushnell put in front. Good review anyway.
