Push 3 with Ableton Live in controller mode (not standalone) is the center of my performance cockpit for all my live streams this month and works flawlessly so far (two weeks into Jamuary.) Standalone is fine for composing on the couch while the wife watches TV. I thinks it’s great but at the price it is definitely a luxury item. :)

Sup @synthseeker - love your videos! It’s an amazing studio hub. Couch jams to be present with the famjam without having to watch movies/Netflix is also a nice perk. Can’t get around it: it’s a luxury item 💎

thank you so much for this review! it is so great and answered a lot of my questions about it. I was actually wondering if Push 3 could be used as a "sampled instrument box". I used to do this with my Push 2, another keyboard controller, my laptop and a sound interface. Reassure me though : even though we can't create dummy clips and instrument racks directly on the standalone version, do these work if created in a laptop Live session and imported into the standalone or are they just inexistant in the standalone realm? I used these to swap instruments and effects. This alone could sell me a Push 3 I think. I am back to playing traditional and hardware instruments because the laptop on stage and for jamming was just a pain to set up everytime. Thanks in advance!

For me, the Push 3 is the perfect groovebox, whether for live sets or as a mental controller for ableton

Hey I’m enjoying your push vids. For follow actions I use follow scene by isotonik. It’s actually better than abletons follow actions. You can set the scene follow length from push and turn on whether you want the scene to loop or move to next scene on the fly. It works very well.

Maybe I'm wrong, User mode is missing, too. It's a huge, painful regression. Holding User mode button, switching between some important tweakable devices with midi learnt device selections are a huge power, when you have some knobs knowing their names. :) Of course, some practical bass muting stuff or fade to grey clip starts, maybe some buildup washers etc, could be useful too, in any jamming situations, not only on the stage. The other is preset saving, sound designers are completely locked out from the coach jamming thing. These are pretty simple software things, too. I just won't pay that amount for "maybe, maybe".

I personally never used user mode very much but can totally see how it’s a huge feature for some people. I haven’t test if it works yet. If not, I’m assuming they plan on including it since there is a user mode button. I’m with you, if there’s core features that feel they’re missing for you it’s not worth investing for a “maybe one day they’ll include it”

My comment is only this. Is the PUSH 3 giving you more than you had with PUSH 2? The question is not is the PUSH 3 perfect or missing the same things that were missing on PUSH2? Does it move the average user forward or go backward? Does it give you more than the PUSH 2?

For my personally, the extra expressiveness with the pads and the fact that it’s a fully stand alone instrument is really what makes it awesome and unique

No crossfader is stupid not to have especially when it is one of the coolest features of Ableton.
@metamindmusicofficial
@metamindmusicofficial Жыл бұрын
Never noticed it was missing the cross-fader. Good point. I suppose you could map it to an encoder or stand alone crossfader if you really wanted it.
@PololiNuskil

The vertical touch strip is the crossfader. You can change the mod source and the mod destination and use it as a crossfader.

the limitation stuff is so true. i decided to buy ableton when it was on sale. i kinda thought about getting into this kind of stuff but when i opened the program i was like: yeah fck it. then i watched a few youtube videos and videos about analog stuff and synths and whatever there is and decided to get a used circuit rhythm. easy to learn, quick to use, perfect for making first songs or ideas or just practice. because you cant scroll through 100000000 menus or add 100000 filters. pick a sample, light some pads up and go. like i know how to do some of that stuff in ableton, but as a beginner it takes longer to record and make all notes the correct length and whatever without the shortcuts. sure as a pro ableton is way better because you can do whatever you want. but as a beginner you dont know what you want. and you dont know how to do anything because there is so much to learn. some plugins like serum have sooooo many things and settings to play aroung with that you could spend years and years just making new sounds without ever creating a single song. fck that i want my 32 pads, 10 knobs and i'm fine ^^

Some of the issues I've had with the device is general build quality for the price. The buttons on the device don't feel good imo. They are hard to press sometimes. Some of the buttons looked recessed on the device (I noticed that on your device in the video) and sit too flush to the device. The main encoder came out of socket when it arrived. Firmly pressing the encoder pushed it back into the socket. Talking about the encoders, not going with etched knobs on such a pricey device was a mistake imo. Maschine Plus has etched metal knobs and they are easy to use and grip. The main encoder is so slippery and so loose that when I turn the knob sometime it kicks me out out of the chosen category when browsing. It's not a great experience especially for the asking price of the device. I have the Force as well and the buttons and knobs there are imo ten times better than what's on the Push3. The same for Maschine Plus which I also own. To say I was disappointed is putting it very lightly.

@@allancerf9038 Yep. Love it. To be honest I like the workflow more than Push so far but I've only had the Push for about a month at this point. I work much faster on Force.
