Push Right Angle Adaptive Hand Controls in Subaru Outback

This video was filmed by request from a few subscribers and multiple places I have spoken at. Everyone wants to know HOW do I still drive my vehicle? The answer is hand controls! Hand controls are different for everyone based on their abilities. Mine are known as push right angle hand controls.
My hand controls were helped paid for by the Subaru mobility assist program! If you’re looking for a vehicle that is very accessible for you and your lightweight wheelchair, look no further than the 2018 Subaru Outback! I have tons of room to maneuver my chair around, and if I have a passenger we can just put my chair in the hatch without breaking it down. This model also comes with high beam assist, which knows when to turn your high beams off and on... which is helpful whenever you’re driving with both hands! No, it had to be disabled in order to have hand controls like this.

You don't have peddle blocks? What if your leg spasms and kicks the gas or brake? Cool setup though! Seems simple enough

Im too tall for peddle blocks, I had it in my previous car and took them out ASAP, because every time id turn my knee would hit the steering wheel. My legs don't spasm or kick like that, so I felt it was more dangerous to have it there then to not. I asked them not to put it into this car, because it was a waste of money. They listened thankfully.

Yeah if you're tall I bet it is dangerous. I wish I could drive but as I am c3-4 I can't use my hands. I'd need that bar though my legs are nuts ugh

@@nbtoppers2 my adaptive driving school owner told me as long as a person is able to move their arms to some extent that there is a way for them to drive... it may cost more, but theres a way. Im grateful I am able to drive, and have that freedom. I wouldn't have been able to do all I did during my reign as Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania otherwise
