Today I address yet another problem I found inside my 292 straight six. Hopefully I've found all the issues now and can get this engine back in my truck!

I built a very hot 292 as well, my cam is a solid lift cam, intake is is 508 duration is 240@ 50, exhaust is 525, 246 @ 50 , lobe separation is 108, degree intake @ 106 , Valves are 100th taller than stock ,also I milled the head and deck 100th ,with the 175 SBC roller rockers ,studs and guides I had to remove 425 the off the surface of the rocker stud , I took that measurement with all info considered and had smith bros make me correct length push rods , also hour's of porting (lumps) ,good video , Besides no expense spared in this build , the list is to long but with long tube hedders ( we didn't have the space to use the collectors) and dual quads 450 Holley's, First dyno pull made 373HP ,418.7 torque ! The collector length is critical on these properly tuned exhaust will add 10-15 % ,I used a new DUI distributor and changed the coil pak with an Accel kit and picked up another 10 hp !!!! ,that we checked twice and yes 10HP from the accel coil ,with the 2 1/2 exhaust collectors at 30" then added a two into one "Y" 3" outlet 400HP is damn near accurate , I've built several small and big block Chevys since the late 1970s , This is my first inline 6 ever , I have over 40 years of experience from drag and circle track . Also did a lot of research and got very good info from guys here that have been building inline Chevys from day one, I can slap a 454 together blind and make 500HP ,but with the inline 6 you really have to pay attention to every tiny detail , I also bought the tallest valve cover made from 12bolt.com and it still wasn't tall enough to clear the valve train ,it would not clear the stud girdle ,Mr Hot-Rod makes a 1 inch spacer to raise it ,fits perfect along with all his other parts, Tom from 12 Bolt is another world of knowledge ! And a lot of others from the Facebook pages dedicated to Chevy 6s,. ALSO , If your gonna build a 6 have plenty of blank checks and don't ask how much is this cost etc, You cant get perfection on a budget ,But I learned a lot and collected some really great rare speed parts , My goal is to get the car in the mid to low 12s , Using various ET calculators online im getting ETs from 12:10 to 12:50 . The plan is to gather as much data this season from track time and build another 292 naturally asperated and see if I can get 425 -440 HP. This is a 4 speed car with M-21 close ratio and 430 Dana 60. Don't forget to double check if there is enogth gap between the rocker arm and the poly lock. I had this problem, with the rigth size pushrod, there was a lilltle contact in the lower part of the poly lock, that result in stud failure. I had to use a smaller pushrod to prevent that contact.
