Was thinking the same, drop down to 2000 gallon and put a dribble bar on the back, take some weight off the back end of the tractor, keep the sward cleaner too.

Tom as you you’ll have seen. Your own tractor will pull it no problem. I’d pull that tanker with our little 2850. No issue. Especially on flat ground. Issues are when grounds wet or on hills. The case will struggle in those conditions. Considering you’ve heavy ground would you not consider 2000 gallon rather then 2300.
@blockytm1904 жыл бұрын
Yes the tractor may be able to pull it as you've seen, but its not ideal.. You've too much weight on that wee tractor, through time you'll kill it.. Travelling to close fields on the farm won't be as issue but if your on the road, its far from safe.. That Tanker will bully that tractor, accident waiting to happen. It'll push the back end around in corners, chance of jack knifing, will the tractor be fit to stop in an emergency etc? I wouldn't be recommending it.. 2000g maybe Max.. I know its easy to say but, Bigger Tractor, smaller implement is an better idea. The tractor should always be the boss.. Also just a quick note on the Tractor tyres, 3 lugs on the ground yes, BUT it depends on the spec of tyre. That is mostly for IF or VF Tyre types with increased flexibility..Which I'd doubt your tractor has ;) Oh and another thing, Yous mentioned about only filling it half.. Again going across yard or field is fine, but NEVER half fill a tanker if going on road or anywhere at speed. Only having a half load gives the slurry more free space to slush around in, causing splashing back and forward. In turn this will increase you chances of jack knifing or rolling the tanker as the weight moving around will make it very un-balanced and un-predictable. :)
@jerryodriscoll36914 жыл бұрын
I knew a fella who rolled a tanker as he half filled it, hit a pothole, all the slurry sloshed over to the side and rolled it (2000 gal tanker on 850(?) Tires roughly)

Blake 2406 I know what you are saying and think you worded it really well. It should have chambers in it to stop the slushing around I though?
@blockytm1904 жыл бұрын
@@TomPembertonFarmLife Baffles in tank yes, most do. I'd say a 2300 will have 2/3 across the length off it. These will and do help to eliminate the slushing but with half a load on if you brake sharp from full speed on road, you will still have slurry slushing forward against the baffles plates. Also baffles plates don't really help from side to side movement, ie. if you where to turn a sharp corner at speed, half a load will naturally want to shift to the outside of the corner, ,shifting your weight balance. Liquid will always want to move given free space, hence the reason a full tanker is better for stability. Even more so in the case of your own tractor being on its limit at the best of times with it, you would really want to be sure the tractor could cope and not be bullied. Hope im kinda helping, just trying to help you out on a few bits you may not automatically think off! :)

Looks a perfect fit for you, fill it when conditions are good and half fill when not. With the floatation tires and a half load the tractor will likely do more tracking than the tanker. 👍👍

Thanks Tom. Making being stuck away from my farm bearable! You know your land/tractor better than anyone. Certainly something to be said for the tractor being in control of the tanker and not the other way round! All comes down to cost and safety.
@LordClunk4 жыл бұрын
That Huerlimann is far too small for that tanker. In my experience in plant operating, you want a vehicle that is usually twice as capable, so it has half the load. For example, you wouldn't have a 1 ton forklift to move 1 ton pallets all day. A machine working at 100% lasts half as long as a machine working at 50% The hurli is obviously straining, and this will give it accelerated wear.

@@FieldRows - Farming must be one area where local knowledge and word of mouth recommendation REALLY matters. Brand loyalty is one thing, but any region with several working farms must put a tremendous strain on the local machinery dealerships. Poor kit or bad service just wouldn't survive, so I can see how a farmer in the States would have to be pretty brave (or slightly nuts!) to buy something with a dealership in Australia, however good the machinery was. Local knowledge of conditions must play a big part, too. Farming vast flat prairie fields in the States is nothing like working a tiny, wet, hilly Welsh or Irish farm. No doubt the tractors and gear evolve to suit, and the dealerships either adapt or go bust accordingly. Maybe it's a matter of scale. Britain's tiny - not much bigger than a Texas turnip field - so there's a lot more scope for variety. A small local brand could survive with just a few customers; perhaps that's why there's such a mix of tractors, old and new. Brits can run minor brands or use imported stuff from Europe - Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany - and be sure that they'll have good service because everything's relatively close by - service is only a couple of hours away, even if it's not immediately local. I wonder how people managed when every tractor had 4 big hooves and teeth? ;-)

Hi Tom, I would strongly suggest that you umbilical pipe spread your slurry and forget about buying any tanker, especially when all the slurry is coming from one source, this is the fastest, most efficient and most cost effective way to move large quantities of slurry in a fraction of the time and cause minimum soil compaction. Use a contractor as dairy farmers are too busy to be doing this type of work at this time of year. Pipe the slurry out in January/February to grow early grass and focus on getting cows earlier than you normally do, this is the practice in Ireland where we aim to produce as much milk off grass during the summer months and shut down production and fully dry off all cows during the winter months.

There are all kinds of hard work - it doesn't have to be physical. Yes, talk is easy, but making decisions IS hard work, which is why top management people and executives get paid so much. Idle chatter is one thing, but major investment plans affect every aspect of the successful running of a business. The Ginger Warrior and Tom don't wear £3,000 handmade shoes and £10,000 Savile Row suits to the office - they wear wellies and overalls - but their discussions (while waiting for the slurry tanker to fill) with Heidi working away in the background are every bit as vital as what goes on in any air-conditioned corporate boardroom. Test the brakes going at 40k with the tanker full behind you and see how long it takes for her to stop. I would say keep the 1500 gal tanker aswell for during winter and put the case on it if you are under pressure with storage. Half filling tankers is very dangerous, I know a fella who half filled a 2000 gallon tanker (on around 850 tires) and he hit a pothole, all the slurry sloshed to the side and turned it over

I see youre exited about the hurliman/same/deutz is able to pull the Tanker, but what have you thought? In its heart its a Deutz, so it has to be able to pull it 😂😂 Here in germany we are getting the slurry out with a Deutz Agrotron 120mk3 (120hp on the pto) and a 17500 Liter tanker, even when its a little bit wet he's pullin it quite good 💪 Okay, he has 580 tires at the back and 540's in the front and has 6 cylinders, but in These points the hurliman has a disadvantage 😅 Maybe you schould look for a used tractor with 130-150 hp with 3-4000 hours on the clock instead of a new one
@MrMagnat0074 жыл бұрын
Tom... When the Implement is larger than the tractor... your supposed to get a bigger tractor ! All due respect to the Hurlimann as it is a great tractor.. I just think with the Bigger tanker... your going to need to have a bit more horsepower.. As you push a tractor closer to its limits.. the more stress you put on it... and the more chances of something breaking increases. I say New 150-200HP tractor first... and then look at a new tanker.. No point getting a new tanker if the Poor Hurlimann is having to work so hard just to pull it.
@johnwakley71654 жыл бұрын
It’s a fair enough point, however as he says it can pull that tanker, and looking at the rest of the kit he’s got why would he buy a 150hp tractor, never mind 200hp. For a farm like Toms looking at the work he’s got to do 120hp/130hp is really the biggest he could needs, considering that none of the other kit he’s got really needs more than 100hp for the job

Although the hurlimann can pull it using the case is probably much more fuel efficient and not to mention safer. However it would be cool to see the hurlimann on some proper floater tyres or maybe even a skinny set of duals although that might be a bit overkill!

Hey Tom, at my own farm in Holland, we use our Fendt 716 from 2001, we use it with a 2500 gallon Veenhuis slurry tank with a 6.8m injecter behind it, it runs it pretty ok, but the thing that I was wondering myself, is that you guys have the hurliman with around 6000 hours, you said, but is that like a lot of hours for you guys or is like regular. BTW Keep up the great work with the videos. BTW BTW our Fendt 716 has around 18500 hours.

its not a bad setup but you could get in to trouble if it is wet

One thing being able to pull it. Being able to stop it and having the weight to keep it under control I don’t think so.
