He’s so terrifying because of how we get to see Puss as this amazing fighter with his reputation being well founded. When Death first appears and beats Puss with zero effort it shows how he is in a class of his own.

Honestly, Death has to be by far... one of the most greatest villain's ever. Not only was his design suited perfectly with spanish culture but the fact that he doesn't reap just for the fun of it... but rather as a natural duty of his and to see a cat who wasted his lives through measly things... to him, taking the last life of puss's is giving the cold reality check that nobody can truly escape death... no matter how hard they try.

Cats have nine lives, nothing says he can go and personally take them. he is a villain because he doesn't respect the term of the implicit contract of life. "You live, until you die" that he turn into "You lived, now you die" because he didn't like it. On the other end of the spectrum, he never *officially* signed a contract about it, and some god damn cat has been spitting in his face for years. It is an amazing character but he has a tiny amount of "villain" in him.

The line "UGH! Why in the hell did I have to play with my food?!" is the best animated villain line i've ever heard. Not only is it contextually funny, but it emphasizes how dangerous Death really is when he draws Puss' blood in the bar. We get hints throughout the film that Death is not using his full power at all because the chase "makes it more fun for me" which means we might see what he is really capable of in the next movie or so. However, I didn't quite understand the joke behind Big Jack Horner's last line ("What did I do wrong? I mean what specifically??") because I thought when he flicked away the cricket it was obvious to him that he was doing morally wrong things to reach his goal. So that one kinda went over my head.

Not only is Death a Wolf, an animal that in nature is an endurance hunter, a hunter that slowly exhausts its prey by stalking it down, representing death as an unending threat, but he uses sickles, and while sickles are a harvesting tool much like a scythe, they were historically used for "early" harvests on crops that werent ripe, representing that death is attempting to "harvest" puss' last life way too early, amazing character down to every detail.

Death is just an absolute perfection, and I think his entrance is what solidifies that to the people. Puss hears a whistle, familiar to us since it's a nursery rhyme seemingly harmless, then Puss' hat goes off and Death turns out to be sitting next to him--no fancy entrance, no glorious entourage, just simple and haunting. When Death landed a blow and Puss sees his own blood, Puss' fur raises up in fear. It is accompanied by this "wheels on the bus" music but it's *different* . It changed tone, and begins to rise up with Puss' fur. What used to be harmless, now causes *fear* . Another thing to note is Death's design. Nothing indicates that he's "death". There aren't the usual stereotypes like skull or sickle. In the context of the entire franchise, he's just a big bad wolf. But all of those elements combined made the audience fear as if we were in Puss' boots. Simple music turned haunting, his entrance quiet yet frightening, and an appearance seemingly typical yet by donning the boots, he becomes this entity. He really is just straight up *DEATH* .

It is so spine-chilling to hear that whistling and is so perfectly with him I'm not going to lie. did you know that when deaths starts whistling is in fact the five little ducks song just more spine-chilling, nightmare fuel, and ominous version of the nursery rhyme song? I just realized it after hearing that a couple of times and I thought the whistling of the song sounded so familiar to me until I listen very carefully of it it is in fact the song the five little ducks.
