I can't remember what rection it was, but there is this one where Greg is commenting, and then we hear this stream in the background. Nom-chalantly he exclaims, (as Olivia was his gf at the time) she's playing games. I'd like to see that stream. Give XqC a run for his money.

Death is one of if not the best DreamWorks antagonist ever. His whistle still sends shivers up my spine. The way Puss stands up to him at the end, how he accepts he can't defeat him, but learned to value his life and never stop fighting for it, causing Death to back down is just perfect.

It took 11 years for Puss In Boots to get a sequel thanks to it's delays due to script rewriters, DreamWorks restructuring, directors switching back and forth, this movie had every red flag here and there before it was finally out. And by the time they did the marketing, it didn't seemed like anyone was really anticipating it. And boy, that all changed when the movie was finally out as not only a worthy sequel but possibly a far superior sequel than the original? How amazing is that? 🙌

Fun fact: During the first fight against the Wolf, when he catches Puss‘ blade with his own, you can see the camera is tilted so far that it is almost diagonal. I watched a video breaking the scene down from an animator‘s perspective and the tilted camera is one of the many aspects the animators used to make him feel off from the get-go. You don’t necessarily notice it, but your brain does.

Another interesting detail is that in the first fight, when Puss does the cartwheel, if you pause you can see fear in his eyes, and the Wolf catches him. In the final fight, Puss does the same cartwheel but if you pause, you see that he's no longer scared, and that time he actually lands a blow.

He never blinked? That's is a real cool detail, while I like to see reactions where they do not realize who he is before the reveal; if someone were to notice he never blinked during his scenes would be pretty amazing. Actually a funny thought to know that you would have to be actively aware of how much time passes and purposefully animate blinking to not make characters or creatures in general creepy for extended periods of staring.

11:10 So, fun fact about when the doctor accidentally says barber's orders instead of doctor's orders. In Europe during the Middle Ages, physicians very rarely did surgeries. Instead, it was mostly left up to barbers who also became surgeons to perform surgeries, because they already had a lot of equipment and necessary dexterity to perform such things. They'd also very often be dentists as well.

So I went to see this in theaters last year with my sisters and nieces thinking it would just be a cute kids movie matinee. From the moment “El Lobo” showed up, I looked over at my nieces and my sister and was like, “Umm is this gonna be too scary for them?!” On the contrary, we were all HOOKED from start to finish. My young nieces didn’t squirm or get bored, and I was basically Greg wavering between laughter and tears all throughout. This movie still hits me in my feels, it was so well done and I would only want a 3rd if the exact same team came back to produce it.

I think kids can usually handle more than adults think. Heck, when I was a kid I was watching Lion King, Pinocchio, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Land Before Time, and Secret of Nimh, all of which contain some very dark material. I personally preferred stories with danger that felt real and had scary and dangerous villains when I was a kid, it made the stories more exciting!

47:09 I honestly think that she did show up at the wedding, and that she was angry for a reason, but when Puss told Perito why things happened the way they did, she understood everything, and she made up a story to let him know that maybe this time he wouldn't run away, because she wouldn't have imagined ever hearing that side of him before, and she tells him to his face that his legend was more important to him than anything else, and that now she no longer sees that in him, seeing how much he values the people around him, and how he is turning into the person she's been looking for all her life, which is why she mentioned sharing the wish because she wants him, and he's left to make his own wish. She literally made up a story for him to let him know why he left, and how she now sees a change in him that he can't see yet in the movie.

Death is one of my favorite antagonists to come out of any sort of medium, Wagner Moura does so well in his performance of him. I specify "antagonist" because while he does have a personal vendetta against Puss, I don't consider Death an actual villain (THAT goes to Jack Horner). To me, Death is personally frustrated with Puss not necessarily because of the quantity of the lives he's had, but how carelessly he lived them, without any real appreciation. And like Greg suggested, Death is instrumental in Puss's arc in learning that lesson, and ceases to pursue Puss further upon his resolve to stand up for this last life he has. I'm a huge fan of these big life lessons in children's movies, it really does bring in the darker aspects of those classic fables and fairy tales that nowadays gets watered down because parents and adults erroneously assume kids won't be able to handle or understand such topics and themes. But kids are a LOT smarted than we give them credit, and are capable of understanding a lot, ESPECIALLY if you find ways to frame those stories in a fashion like this.

I absolutely adore death, he could be seen a villain or just someone who is doing their job. And all he has and been doing his job, and I think it's so sweet how when puss and boots finally learns to value his life and not waste it like he eas doing. Death backed down and let puss and boots basically have another chance at life. Now that hes finally learned his lesson. I just really appreciate how death could be seen as a villain given his mannerisms which could be seen as aggressive or something similar. But he really could just be seen as a character which is their to help teach characters a much needed lesson

Also couple of hints about Death which are obvious after you watched the movie. He is in the crowd, when Puss is fighting this giant. He puts two golden coins, which is follow up to Charon and old cementary traditions. He fights with scythes and is wearing dark hood. He is not presented in the map for The Wishing Star. And most obvious reference: Everyone thinks, is the one to defeat me, but no one escaped me yet. Such an awesome antagonist.

First time I saw this and we were introduced to Death, I was all "Ooo, bad guy." Then he completely owned Puss. "Oh... terrifying bad guy!" And then 'Corre, corre, gatito.' ".... terrifying, MULTILINGUAL bad guy!!!" And such a wonderful bad guy he is. But he's not a villain by any stretch of the means. He's simply a Force of Nature. I think I love this movie so much because ultimately it wasn't JUST the headliners; because they fleshed out Goldie and the Bears so well, and the twist with our "Bounty Hunter". I know some people made the connection earlier, but I honestly took the Bounty Hunter label and it all made sense to me. I figured he was just a hunter that enjoys the chase, and a bit of a sadist in terrifying his prey before unaliving them. Just the way he tapped specifically on the part that was not "or Alive" on the Wanted poster reinforced that thought. Speaking of Lobo the Bounty Hunter, those weren't coins. While it looked like coins, and maybe that was the point, it was the reflective back of his eyes, like you can see with cats in low light conditions. Side notes: The captions company hired for this movie are worthless. Every point a character speaks Spanish in the movie, the captions shows "[speaking in Spanish]". Not the Spanish itself, not the English translation, [speaking in Spanish]. "Say hello to my [speaking in Spanish] blade." But I absolutely loved his rant at the end. "¡¿POR QUÉ DIABLOS FUI A JUGAR CON MI COMIDA!?" Why the hell did I play with my food?!

The only reason everyone was able to hear and see death at the end was because everyone was susceptible to death, they could all die at any moment, other times it was just puss’ life on the line, but at the end everyone was

It's not that we think that they were originally made by Disney but in America at least, i can not speak for every country but all those stories were made famous for us by Disney. I would say most Americans do not know about the original ending to all the fairy tales. They only know the happy ending versions

2 clarifications 1:ray winston is not dead, check the gentlemen 2:There are some references to Shrek here because the first movie was during puss first life, He still didn't know him Extra fact: Kitty accidentally reveals that this is also her last life, So her love story with puss is mythological... After many reincarnations they met again at the end

It's really a shame this came out the same year as Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio since it would have easily won the Oscar for best animation. Amazing movie, there is no reason for it to be as good as it is and it's phenomenal and totally worth multiple watch to see all the small details (like, the horses Jack's ride in the beginning are actually Unicorns with their horns cut off, which is where he got the unicorns horns to begin with!)

The animation style is so different I honestly wouldn’t have believed you if you told me this was actually made by Dreamworks. The subtle drops in frame rate, the more hand drawn aesthetic character designs, it’s all subtle but it improves the animation quality by miles. Dreamworks animation better use this same art style for the future Shrek movies.

Death was actually terrifying lol, my 3 year old was so excited to see this movie till he showed up, scared the snot out of her. It’s cool that even though being Hispanic in accent, Death was a wolf, and used small scythes (used for harvesting). It’s very reminiscent of Anubis from Egyptian lore, the God of Death
