Death's design goes stupid hard. I like the idea that death has 2 Sickles instead of one giant scythe. I absolutely love how he just looms out of the shadows. His voice is so menacing and I love it. I also like how they made him a wolf since wolves are known to hunt cats. I also love his creepy red eyes.

I don't care that some people think that the Goldie plot was under cooked. The fact that Mama bear had tears of sadness leaking down her face while smiling at Goldie when she told them what her wish was made my eyes water up just as hard as when Puss had a panic attack. Since everyone else is sharing, I loved that instead of the bears leaving Goldi to find the star on her own, or something like that, they still decided to help her. I especially love how Mama Bear was the one who stepped up to tell the others to help her. They didn't hate her for wanting to use the wish to find her real parents, they were just really hurt that she was gonna leave, and that she felt she had to lie about her intentions. That's real family drama done right, and it's so refreshing compared to how this scenario usually goes.

Absolutely, at this point I think we're all tired of that classic Disney trope where the protagonist gets mad at their friends and family, distances themselves, has some revealing experience and then some inner reflexion, then comes back to said friends and family and they all live happily ever after. It's a really down to Earth approach to real life conflicts. We're at odds, but we're still going to have to deal with this problem at hand, there's no time to sing Let It Go.

I love that Jack Horner was just a straight up evil person rather than some misunderstood character driven to do bad things due to circumstance. They even kind of did a fake out about it when he tells the cricket his back story about being a nursery rhyme instead of a fairy tale and how that barely factors in to his actual wish. It's refreshing to see an old school villain again whose horrible, knows it, and revels in it.

We have 3 archetypes of villains in this movie: - Death, the non-evil entity whose aim is to challenge the protagonist's values - Goldilocks, the redeemable sympathetic one - Jack Horner, the classic evil for the sake of it type ...and they all somehow didn't conflict each other and make a mess, it's such a miracle.

Side note: Even Jack Horner has a deeper character than you'd think, if you think about it. Like how he wants to remove all magic from everyone and give it to himself because Pinnochio beat him in an advertisement battle, and he think it's because he didn't have magic. Or how he's a product of his environment, because he was basically a spoiled brat that grew up and started overcompensating for _whatever_ he thought he lacked-In this case, it's magic, or magical artifacts.

Very proud of being evil, embracing what the conditions he had growing up shaped him into the man he is today. What an absolute unit.

Fun Wolf facts *SPOILERS:* 1. the whistle of death is 8 measures/beats long all movie long except for the final fight where it was 9 measures long when he lights up the fire, symbolizing that this is the last fight 2. The whistle of death is played 7 times during the movie. In most of Latin america/South America "un gato tiene 7 vidas" (cats have 7 lives). Idk if its intentional but it's cool anyways 2x during the bar scene 1x during the jack horner chase 1x during the cliff fight 3x during the final fight (when death enters, when he lights the fire and when he leaves) 3. The last time deaths whistle is heard it's not finished, only the first part because death didn't take puss life. It being unfinished is also a nod that death will finish it when they meet again "hasta la muerte!" (Until death) 4. In the fight with the giant the bell rings 7x during the fight, and 1 more time when it kills puss, taking his 8th life 5. During the bar scene there are 8 empty cups and 1 filled cup which puss is holding symbolizing his last life. Also the candle goes out just before death appears, a callout to the doctor using the candle to show puss died 6. During the jack horner scene death puts two golden coins in his eyes which is a old Greek tradition ( @Ravenwashere1776 thx for correcting me) 7. Death can be seen during the death montage in the corner of the cards 8. Death is also seen in the crowds during the giant fight 9. During the cliff fight where puss gets a panic attack, death is standing in a rock that resembles a skull *Fun fact:* the VA for death is Brazillian but wasn't used in the brazillian dub 🤦. Also there are 9 movie facts here which is more symbolism for puss' lives This movie was a *MASTERPIECE* Watched it 3 times already and everytime I watch i see new things

There's a theory that he is ALSO death. Well, more so another construct of death. So, death isn't a physical construct, right? In this movie "death" takes a physical form, but that doesn't mean he is limited to being in one place at a time. Death, after all, is everywhere at any time. When Puss "retires" to the cat hoarders house, he sort of goes into a depressed stupor, Perrito could have singled out ANY other cat in that house, but he focuses on Puss and what is his continued message to Puss? Enjoy your life. What is Deaths goal in this movie? He wants to humble Puss, he's angry that Puss basically wasted 8 of his lives and died in stupid ways. He says he doesn't like cats and thinks the idea of anything having 9 lives is absurd. (implying that cats are just born with 9 lives in this world or that they get them from somewhere) What is Puss's major issue in this movie? Well, he's cocky, arrogant, until he learns that he's on his last life, then he begins to full on panic, realizing that he is going to die, no matter what he does. Death, as a physical construct embodies that, like I said, death is everywhere at all times and death can claim you at any time. He's menacing, intimidating, but he's not a villain. Perrito on the other hand, is the physical construct that says that just because you are going to die, at some point, there's no reason to dwell on it and let it rule your life.

Puss opens up to perrito about how he is on his last life and is afraid of death. Really calmly Perrito replies “it’s okay. It’s okay to be afraid” showing that his emotions are valid and not something to be ashamed of. And then puss opens up about the backstory w Kitty and how it made him feel, and perrito acknowledged that it would be a good idea to actually talk to Kitty about how he felt. Perrito definitely could have been an annoying character, and I was worried about that when I saw the trailer, but when I actually saw the movie, he totally won me over with his extremely realistic therapy dog behavior. I thought that accuracy was so damn cool, the writers must have done their research on canine behavior. He was perfect. And I also love how well Death was executed and how he forced Puss to learn to value his life and his relationships, such as with Kitty and Perrito. In the end, Puss truly learned to value his one last life and that’s why Death ended up leaving him alone, at least for that time. Death says he will of course return for Puss at some point, but this time, Puss is able to accept that. It’s such perfect development for this previously one note character and I was so surprised by it. Puss in Boots might have nine lives, but we don't. Life is short! Time flies! Do what you love and care about who you love before it's too late.

I love how, the star’s main line of defense isn’t the deadly stuff. It just, grants your wish before ever reaching the actual star. Forest of nostalgia? Showing Goldi she already has an amazing family. Cave of lost souls and lava river? Would help Puss regain his courage while forcing him to confront and change himself. Mountain of despair? Kitty would have needed her friends to pull her out of those emotions. I’m convinced if Big Jack ever got the map, it would either be similar to Perrito, or just the forest doing everything in its power to kill him, cause the star knew it couldn’t change his mind.

@StarcoFanatic
@StarcoFanatic Жыл бұрын
Yes, I didn't really catch that until I rewatched it, but yes, the Star was trying to defend itself by simply giving them what they truly wanted already, which is why Perrito's path was so easy; he didn't even want the wish at all even if he got to it. It actually explained a lot why nobody had ever managed to reach it. Most people, if they didn't just straight up die in there, probably realized they didn't need to reach it anymore and simply stopped bothering.
@bossked1563
@bossked1563 Жыл бұрын
It struck me not as a line of defense, but as an outpouring of the star's nature: giving you what you truly want. Every character save Jack - Puss, Kitty, Perrito, and Goldi - say at some point that they got their wish, no magic required. For Goldi and Puss, it was because their perspectives shifted, while Kitty's wish was fulfilled as Puss' character improved throughout their travels. Perrito never needed a wish because he already understood that his life can be good simply by having the proper perspective - he didn't need any material change to be happy, so what use would magic be? So ultimately, the star was granting wishes left and right as it was intended to, just in a roundabout way.

Can I just say that the entire scene where the dog comforts Puss is a masterpiece? The dog saw Puss run off and followed him because he was concerned and confused. When he finds Puss hyperventilating and unresponsive, he doesn't try and make Puss talk or explain, he just slowly goes over and places his head on Puss' stomach until he calms down. The movie lingers on this moment for a while until Puss' breathing calms down and he's aware enough to pet the dog and thank him... He doesn't specify for what, but it's clear what he's talking about. The movie doesn't baby the viewers by telling them that this is therapy dog behavior or meant to calm Puss down; they just DHOW it. Because even children understand what it means to hug or hold someone who's crying or scared.

One of my favorite parts is where Goldie finally admits what her wish is to the bears and the baby and the papa both are heartbroken and slightly betrayed. But the mama bear is obviously heartbroken, but she accepts it, she knew it was going to happen and it would have been a perfect set up for them to split up and regroup at the star but no. The mama bear says with her full heart, that it’s okay. No matter how much they love her, they won’t force her to be unhappy and they will do their everything they can to help her get her wish. It was just a scene where it was pure love, mama bear only wanted Goldie to be happy and if that meant leaving them to be with others, than that’s okay. Because she’s happy. I just really loved that scene.

The weapons that Death uses aren't actually scythes they're sickles, but the same idea applies. The reason why most depictions of the Grim Reaper show him with a scythe is because the scythe is a farming tool used to cut and harvest plants. It implies that he uses it to harvest our souls when our time comes. The sickles are also farming tools used for the same purpose in a different way so the same idea still applies
@jahrusalem3658
@jahrusalem3658 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the reason he used sickles is because a scythe would have been too obvious. The sickles have the same meaning of harvesting and reaping, but it also gives Death some uniqueness, as I've never seen a portrayal of Death use sickles other than him. It would also allow for more fast-paced fights as a large, heavy scythe would have been less interesting to see fight a small rapier.

I haven’t seen anyone bring this up yet, but Death’s whistling. His design is incredible, it fits well for the theme he has, the menacing aura. But his whistle alone that causes Puss in Boots to start to panic really sets it. And how the music always stops to make way for that old familiar whistle, further setting the feeling of you can’t run sells it. Not only that but the whole time I was watching the movie it felt like the whistle was a tune of some sort of morbid nursery rhyme, but I couldn’t exactly remember it. It was unsettling

And Perrito didn’t have to be all “omg I’m a therapy dog now!” All he had to do was come up to Puss and be there for him. All they had to do was show and not tell and they hit the nail on the head. Hearing Puss’ heart rate go from a million miles an hour to a more steady pace was quite satisfying. I honestly thought Perrito was gonna be an annoying sidekick, comic relief character but no, he was an essential part of the team and helped drive the story.

I love death because there are a lot of hints about who he is before the reveal. When he points to the "dead" on the wanted poster it's actually referring to him as death, not puss. Plus the line "everyone thinks they will be the one to defeat me. But no one's escaped me yet." When he says "everyone" that actually mean everyone! Plus he purposefully said "escaped" because death is something you escape. Then in his next encounter we see death put 2 gold coins in his eyes and point at Puss. Putting gold coins in the eye sockets of the dead is an old tradition so you could pay ferry man to bring you across the river Styx and into the afterlife. Another design element are his weapons. They are scythes but not only that, when they are retracted they form the letter "D" for Death.

Not to mention that his appearance changed the tone of the film entirely. Every appearance becomes a scene from a horror film(shadows lengthening under a door, hearing the whistle over a chaotic fight scene, etc.) But its also what his first appearance did. He drew blood. Once that happened, most of the childlike goofiness left the film. There were stakes now. Not that it stopped being fun entirely, but people started dying left and right. People get turned into statues, fall to the bottom of a ravine, get eaten by plants or exploded. Jack Horner straight up tries to shoot a dog in the face. These are fun moments, sure, but not the fun and childish "oh, he's just embarrassed" or "he's hurt but he's okay". They're fuckin' dead. In hilarious ways. It's small, and most probably wouldn't pay it any mind, but that's an important change tonally.

That's also the exact parts that really got me, I've had 3 or 4 panic attacks last summer and autumn. Nothing life threatening though, the first panic attack started when I got the flu or the cold variant that the news outlets like to talk about, it came at me by surprise, the other two panic attacks I had no idea what started those but it felt like a drug trip when I tried to sleep it off. On top of that I have a deep fear of death, I had surgery back when I was an infant for a stomach muscle problem that prevents food from entering the intestines; it's fatal when you don't go in for surgery, pyloric stenosis is the name of it. Knowing how close I was to death before gives retrospective fears. My fear of death is deeply rooted.

One thing I noticed on a rewatch. This film is full of characters foreshadowing things and perfect setups and payoffs, like the wolf hinting who he really is, but I noticed Puss's own theme song right at the beginning of the film very subtly foreshadows his real feelings that we learn later. The song "Fearless Hero" is mostly just Puss bragging about himself, and the chorus affirming his praise; "Who's brave and ready for trouble?" "You are, you are!" "Who's so unbelievably humble?" "You are, you are!" But at one point Puss breaks the lyrical structure and simply states "Puss in Boots is never afraid!" but you can hear the chorus still respond "You are, you are!", basically sandbagging him in his own song. He says he's not afraid, the song says "Yes you are", and we learn later that very much is the case, in more ways than one.

I actually work in a theater, so I get the privilege of seeing this movie for free as many times as I want. I've seen it three times, and I paid for the last two, despite the fact I didn't have to. For years, and to this day I struggle with PTSD and panic attacks, both of which are either romanticized or poorly portrayed within the media. That tree scene with Puss and Perro stood out immensely, because it was real. It felt so vivid, and so familiar, and when Puss was running, I felt myself getting worked up too. Sitting in that theatre, I felt connected to his character on such a personal level that I began to fear with him, as I also suffer a lotta of thinking about my mortality. But when Perro arrived, and rested his head on Puss's thigh, my eyes welled up immediately. I don't have a dog, but I do have a cat. She's not very physical, but a lot of the time when I have horrid episodes, she'll come over and lay on my chest and purr. There's something about animals we've bonded with that ground us, because they're just as real as we are, and they can feel what we feel. And they want to help. At that point in the movie, it had been mentioned that Perro and Puss had bonded a bit, but Perro's seemingly small action only amplified their relationship, without that even being the intention. All in all, I didn't expect this Dreamworks movie to include existentialism and PTSD, but I am definitely not complaining. One of my favourites.

The portrayal of Death in that movie was actually, in my opinion, a truly frightening 'villain' even though he wasn't really a villain. He just.. is. Puss said himself he would never defeat him, but he will not fear death anymore. That’s when death literally was like… you get it…. You’re not the same man… he’s coming, but you deserve to live your life… Plus his weapons that he has are actually meant for pulling away shields from people to expose them where they will hurt the most… that’s a small detail I literally fell in love with

I loved the fact that, not only was Jack Horner being the bad guy a deep cut since hardly anyone remembers the nursery rhyme, but that fact that it WAS a deep cut was his main motivation. He hates that the nursery rhyme he's from is so lame compared to other fairy tales, so he uses all of his money to indulge in as much magical stuff as he can get his grubby gorilla hands on. Not only does that make for a clever motivation, but it made for a fun character gimmick too: the fact that he has access to all these disparate magic items gave him an armory of fairy tale references. He used the fairy godmother's wand to turn a pumpkin into a battle tank, he has the sword in the stone with the stone still attached, poison apple grenades, and unicorn horn crossbow bolts, all stuffed into Mary Poppins's bag. Such a fun concept for a character.

@@jahcode6132 You know, it's even funnier when you take into account that the nursery rhyme is based on a real-life person; and just like Puss' Jack Horner, the real-life Jack Horner is anything BUT good. Jack Horner (or Thomas Horner) was delivering a Pie to King Henry VIII; however, he decided to take away the deed to a mansion; the item in question is inside the pie. The reason for that was because the Abbot (who sent the Deed for Henry VIII) wanted to keep his monestary, so he sent the deed as a bribe. When Henry VIII found out the Deed was NOT in the pie (but didn't know Jack stole it), the Abbot was... well, let's say the Gluttonous Murder of a King was not happy with this outcome. Point being, having to make Jack Horner the villain, based on this truth, that is some extreme irony in the poem's case.

I loved that aspect as well. Death is portrayed as an antagonist, and not really a villain. Once he lays out his vendetta, it's very understandable. Of course death is pissed about how Puss waisted his lives. I as a viewer was pissed at how frivolous Puss was being. He's Death! He's been at the side of millions of people whose lives were cut short, who would have given everything for another minute with their loved ones at their end. AND HERE COMES THIS MOTHER F&*& FLEA BAG THAT TOSSES AWAY HIS LIVES WITH LESS CARE THAN THE BOOTS ON HIS FEET! However, once Puss gives respect to both life & Death, he lets him go. An underrated aspect of this movie that not many people talk about: It’s lighthearted throughout but when it needs to get serious it does so without any interjecting humor. Building off Puss’ panic attack scene, I was so happy that when Perrito (the dog) found him, the writers made him act in a way a friend actually would in that scenario. He wasn’t overly enthusiastic like he is in nearly any other scene, trying to get Puss to smile or anything. Hell, they didn’t even bring back the “rub my belly” schtick from the beginning of the movie, which they easily could’ve. Instead, Perrito tries asking Puss what’s wrong, realizes he wont be getting an answer anytime soon, and decides to… just be there for him. As someone who has many friends who experience panic attacks themselves, I’ve definitely learned that simple being there with them can be more beneficial than continuously asking “what’s wrong?” or trying to be active in solving it. It both strengthens the relationship between the two, and also builds on Perrito’s wish of being a therapist dog, by him actually behaving like a great therapy dog would. (Side note: Right after that scene Kitty catches up and starts eavesdropping on them, and I was pleasantly surprised that the writers didn’t go with the overdone “character missunderstanding what two other characters are saying about them” trope by only hearing shit like “…I can’t tell her…” “…Keep this a secret…” or etc.. Kitty heard that Puss was remorseful for their previous split, which strengthened their relationship even before he told her to her face. This was just such a thoughtful movie, even besides the amazing visuals, action and humor.

@Caitlyn Carvalho You're weirdly persistent about this, but I'll entertain it. Wolves in fairy tales don't all have to relate back to the 'big bad wolf' because wolves in general are a good symbol for, well, a lot of things. They're recognizable and easy to portray as a harrowing or dominating character due to their gruff nature. It's like asking why there are more humans in the movie if Jack Horner is the main antagonist. I'd also argue the distinction in their designs. The big bad wolf is, of course, dressed in grandmother's clothes in alignment with the fairy tale but also to appear more friendly and dopey to the audience, hence why he is a side character of the same manoristics. Death's design is sharp and dark, with piercing eyes to seek out Puss. He invokes fear in both Puss and (subjectively, of course) the audience.

What I love is that they added, and nailed, some of the more realistic parts of this movie. Like, Puss getting an anxiety attack from Death chasing him, and then having lil' Perrito be there to help calm him down, without even saying anything. That moment struck me hard, man. And the level of support that Momma Bear has for her daughter Goldi, even when they found out what her wish was gonna be, almost made me cry. Even if they're side characters, they're surprisingly well done side characters. Not to mention that Death is easily one of my favorite characters here. He's not evil, but not really good. He's basically Chaotic Neutral, that's just doing his job, and enjoying it. So much so that he goes in on it, with creepiness levels pushed to 11, with all the whistling, and how slowly and calmly he approaches. We've all seen movies (for kids especially) that tend to have the "happily ever after" ending, and a "friendship and love overcome all odds", and whatnot, with characters who "win" because they appreciate those close to them, but I feel like this one does those tropes REALLY well. Maybe it's cause literal Death was the reason why Puss had to figure out his own values, thus making it feel more intense and real, but even so. I did appreciate this movie's take on it. Also, I went into this, thinking "Oh, yeah, this wolf character is such a cool villain" (lately realizing he's not really a villain when we find out he's Death, but just an antagonist), but I honestly ended up loving Jack Horner as the villain, cause, lately, I've been appreciating the "just straight up damn evil" characters, who are also perfectly aware that they're evil, for as long as they're done well, and I think Jack is done surprisingly well!

I dunno. Death isnt chaotic neutral. Hes true neutral. He only seems to be after puss because of a combined arrogance and risk taking behavior leaves him intimately close to death regularly. Like. He doesnt get remotely close when puss is "retired". Because puss isn't taking risky adventures. He only starts catching up when puss starts taking risks. And the "breaking the rules" thing is pretty... eh? Cuz look at the situations puss is in in the scenes death arrives. Drinking alone with a bounty on his head. Dangerous and particularly risky if the local noble is after him. Being attacked after stealing from the mafia boss. I... dont have to explain the risk there right? The big ass battle with said mafia boss and his cronies where people are dying left and right. Alone and trapped in a cave of "lost souls". Death arrives. Now. Caves are insanely dangerous. They need special equipment and training to navigate relatively safely. AND his past lives are honestly kind of siren songs of risk taking behavior so puss is likely gonna make a mistake. Then on the wishing star. Its, not as obvious but, it is a massively powerful magical object. Its rosing into the air. And he has two foes after him. Death arrives to settle the score, and leaves wjen he realizes puss isnt afraid. He accepts death without changing who he is. He will accept death if his risks and adventures bring him around. But he won't run or cower. Death, isnt going to be lurking in his mind anymore. So he leaves. I dunno. I just feel... that puss and death and the dynamic and nature of death are... brilliantly handled.

An example would be a paladin sworn to a death god who enjoys going about their job. Killing those that defy death, like necromancers amd lichs, amd enjoying setting things to rights, even if their methods are sadistic (nothing is more cruel than a paladin setting things to rights.) Blah. It ultimately comes down to trying to slot characters into a binary that doesnt evem work in game. (Most tables I have played at cept AL games didnt really... care about alignment per se because of just this limitation)

I honestly think the B plot with Goldie ties in pretty well, because the whole movie is about appreciating the life you have and learning to cherish it and stop wishing for more. Like live in the moment kind of thing. So her learning that she already has a family and that she doesn’t need to wish for one is pretty fitting to the theme

I think part of why it didn't work for him was because I think he missed some of the early foreshadowing of it. Like how early in the movie she talks about how the wish will solve all of their problems, but won't actually say it, or how then later she draws herself with a royal family in the book, etc. It didn't get brought up in the climax, it got REVEALED in the climax, it's a twist done right; you could figure it out before the reveal if you paid attention.

This movie masterfully handled the Rule of Chekhov's gun. The "pick it up" bit. Perrito wanting Puss to talk out his feelings and his story coming back to him opening up to Perrito and Kitty. Jack uses almost every magical item that get's a full moment of screen time while he's packing. So much of even the little details get brought back in the final act of the film. Even the map, Which would in most films, end up being a mcguffin. It plays a major roll, both in the immediate events of the plot, but also as a driving force pushing characters into situations where they can grow. it isn't just there to be an item to chase, Hence it avoids being said mcguffin. @Saberspark , I would contest your opinion of Goldie, when you take into account that she is actually the one who is the narrative foil to Puss. She has what she needs, but is chasing what she thinks she wants. Puss on the other hand, "has had what he think he wants. but over the course of the story, gets what he needs. It is at the moment Puss realizes this in the final fight that we see Goldie realize the same thing and their inverse narratives converge upon the same message. "what you want isn't always what you need" The map was even trying to tailor it's trials to help whomever was traversing the dark forest. The Cabin an attempt to show Goldie just how good she already has it. Kitty and the mountains reflects the gap between her and those around her that she needs to bridge to build trust. Puss needs to face his past lives to accept that he is different, that those legends aren't who he is at his core. Death even coming in during that scene to literally shatter Puss's idolization of who he was before.

The messages in the movie about dealing with mortality, not running from past trauma, and learning to value family, was really really something that I needed when I saw it last night. For me, the Goldilocks B Plot was my favorite part of the movie. The way they explored what her wish was without expressly saying so was done PHENOMINALLY, and the hint from the map saying "You have what you wish for right in front of you" was done so well imo. And ngl, I almost cried when Mama Bear told Goldi how finding her in Baby's bed made their family just right (and yes, I loved that gimmick throughout the whole movie, they did it just right). I thought her wish was gonna be to turn the bears into a human family because bears wouldn't live as long. Also that her lesson would be about appreciating what she has gotten instead of chasing some idealized perfection, and that her fear of their limited mortality would mirror Puss' fear of his own mortality. I found it kinda weak that she just wanted a different family from the bears, she was literally going to throw them away...

I really liked the plot with Goldilocks because it amplified the messages of the movie about wishing upon a star, or rather, you don't need to. Because at one point, the map implies that she had already what she wished for in front of her, in the same way that Kitty had her companion in front of her, and Puss later accepted his own mortality and did not need a wish because he had it all along, a life he should treasure. And in the end, they decide to break the map and not make any wish, because they didn't need to do it anymore. Most of the times what we really want is in us or with us and we don't really notice it because we are enamoured with a romanticized idea of what we think our wish is.

I shed a tear at those sweet moments with the bears, that "just right" joke was comically overused, yet it still hit me with chills when they reconciled at the end. The fact that the mother was still loving and acceptant of Goldis choice, no overdone splitting up thank god,, I think it was a super strong B plot, I enjoyed everything about them. In fact, all the plot beats are strong, help the theme of the movie, and juggle the prefect amounts of screentime each. Only flaws for me were the cutesy eyes bit really dragged on and felt to hard to be a "trailer moment" though it had an impact by the end. same thing applies to when the dog was captured, the second time, that whole scene was lacking on the comedy to me, and drawn out. The use of blood in the film was genius, it was shocking and helped set the tone that death is not some silly willy tough guy, every time that chilling theme played, the whole tone shifted because it was so well established who Death was. Death didn't lose either, he chose to stop, he couldn't even actually lose, he will always stay threatening because of that. I love the themes as well, something that can speak to me, to anyone, I've seen many other movies have the messages of "appreciate life" "love your family" "don't be selfish" "learn to apologize" but not many have handled it as well as this one, they don't push it in your face, and keep it subtle.

I'm really glad I wasn't the only one crying in the scene where Perrito calmed down Puss in Boots by putting his head in his chest. That hit me like a train and I cried for a while too. It was good to cry though, so I guess Perrito calmed me down too. He's a very good boy.

It really hit home for me, as a person who has experienced panic attacks- and just seeing Perrito comfort him was so beautiful and touching I almost shedded a tear… such a powerful moment

@@Rawt173 Not to mention it was always Perrito's dream to be a therapy dog as well. He's just doing what he's always wanted, helping others. And Puss is now one of those that he helped. :'D I admit, that scene was what made me love him for the rest of the movie, since before it I thought he was just gonna be an annoying overly optimistic bad timing sidekick character, but no. He was concerned for Puss when he was having a panic attack and had the most sincere concern for him after, no talking, no witty jokes to ruin the mood, no stupid oblivious optimism. They could've easily RUINED such a serious scene but they didn't, Perrito was instead so quiet while making Puss relax you can just tell he took his stress so seriously. Especially since if he really wants to be a therapy dog, that's what he needs to do. And he fucking did unlike other media that treats panic attacks like a joke. It IS a scary thing, and the Puss in Boots movie represented it so accurately and perfectly it made me cry. And Puss didn't push him away when he later realized he was petting Perrito either for some gag, he confided in him instead like you do in therapy. It's just so genuine, man... It made me cry. I've had a lot of panic attacks nowadays and I want a pet like Perrito. He's so good a character and the sweetest.

@@klltx2001 Awesome analysis of that shot and how they could have ruined it. Indeed they did it so well.

I also love how they gave Puss a theme song in this one and that's it's so good. Like he's constantly hyping himself up with it. And the way it's used to develop his character is genius.

I love how the most common compliment about this movie is that everyone cried during the panic attack scene. It's just so perfectly written and shot. There are no words, just Puss hyperventilating and then Perrito resting his head on Puss' stomach, helping him to calm down enough to snap back from his episode. They didn't even need to tell you what was happening, they just showed it, because the writers knew actions speak louder than words, and they spoke the loudest in this scene

I actually really liked the b plot (spoilers inbound) The family of bears was rlly sweet, and I thought they'd find out she was using the wish for herself and leave, but I nearly cried when they still supported her because to them she's still family.
