Put fat tires on wheelchair

My first attempt at putting fat tires on permobil f3. They worked great.

Permobil makes mud tires with deeper tread as an option now when ordering a chair.

That's a great idea. I just got my first electric wheelchair and it gets stuck in the grass and my yard is level at the end of my ramp off my back porch. I was told few weeks ago that i should order new wheels and tires for it. But i have carpet inside and I hate to destroy my carpet with aggressive tires. But I can't go outside on it if I don't change the tires.

@terrydouglas2777 yeah, they should make wheelchair more versatile and usable. This is not the best solution but it helps. I'd like to design and build the perfect chsir, small,narrow,4x4,better clearance, fit thru doors, and usable inside & out. And go fast😂

Put a small socket on hub shaft putold wheel on And tighten till it clears The hu b Then swap hubs out😊 you usethe wheel to pull hub

Watch Totally Normal. Take your wheels apart and the backside has a place for a valve stem. Buy some 85.0 x6 wheelbarrow or dirt bike tires reverse the wheels to put valve stem outside.. Cost about $65.00. You will need to trim the fenders.

Do you happen to have a kit number for the tire package you used? My son has an F5 and those tall skinny factory tires are great if you never want to get off the beaten path. Great video/tutorial!

No it doesn't fit interior doors. That's been the biggest issue for me. Wanting a 4x4 chair thst goes indoor as well as outdoors. This makes it 32 inches wide.

My plan is to have "indoor chairs" for downstairs and upstairs and an outdoor mobility scooter to go to Walmart, the parks, and to do gardening. There is a several-mile-long paved trail along our two rivers that I want to go and explore. Looking at the Baja mobility scooter... now I just have to find the money for all that!! HA HA!!

I need to do this with mine . I live in the country 45 mile to the closest Walmart, heb , my batterys wont charge anymore, my tires get stuck so easy in the yard. Even the dirt driveway. So irritating. Dont have the money to order batterys or wheels. My back is out , bad knee pain. Is there a way to power the chair without the proper batts. , I cut the tread off a lawnmower tire. Thinking about wrapping them tight over the slick original ones using gorilla glue, and zip tie them on till dry , hell I might can tiptoe all over for grip.. what about the two skinny back tires???? Shouldnt they be taller and wider aswell..if the front gets modded , how bout back geting stuck..

It's my understanding that if your chair is rated to also take AGM battery group size 24 (like many are), then you can buy flooded-wet marine deep cycle batteries group size 24 from Walmart for half the price of AGM batteries and even use your same charger. Although you probably won't be able to take the chair on an airplane without AGM batteries. I've read Permobil has 8 inch instead of 6 size castor tires for some of their chairs for use outdoors. That's all the tips I have that might get you in a better direction. Reach out for help, I bet there are a lot of people who would love to reach out and connect with you instead of the drug addicts on the streets who just waste it on drugs. Take care

I know how you feel. You got to learn to do these things yourself because the prices the wheelchair maintenance charges will make car mechanics blush.

For anyone watching this video, this is NOT the way to treat a perfectly good power wheelchair. Permobil uses LocTite to secure the hubs to the output shafts as a safety precaution. If you have to remove the hubs, use heat to soften the LocTite, and a pulley or gear puller to pull off the hubs. Do NOT beat them with a hammer. You can bend the output shaft and damage the hubs and wheels. You can get a puller at Harbor Freight for a few bucks. Some automotive parts stores will loan them out.

LocTite, or Thread Loc is used on bolts to prevent the nut from vibrating loose. LocTite would be used on the bolt holding the hub/wheel. That bolt threads into the end of the shaft/axle. LocTite is never used on the exterior of the shaft. It would serve no purpose. The only thing holding this wheel onto the chair was good ol' rust. A gear/pulley puller is an absolute must.
