A dog-owner crossing into the EU from Ukraine is told she has to leave her dog in quarantine or put in down in order to continue with her journey.

Strange, the dog showed no signs of having rabies. But they're concerned about the dog having rabies? At least they called in a veterinarian to check the dog.

There is an incubation time for rabies virus, just as for every other virus. The dog can carry and spread the virus without showing symptoms and start to show symptoms when its already have spread the virus. I simple google search would show you that info.

The dog isn't going to show any signs if it's only just been infected. Like any other virus it requires an incubation period during which time no symptoms will be evident yet the animal can still infect other animals ... or people. The border protection people are right to be so strict about this.

The test that they didn’t do isn’t even for rabies. It’s to see that the dog is immune to rabies. So it makes even less sense, considering that the dogs vaccinations are up to date. Only way you can test for rabies is to dissect the animals brain.

They are public officials, not veterinarians, they do not check for rabies symptoms, they only check if the documents are correct.

That's why they have the option of quarantine, for the incubation period of the virus. If he's OK after that, he's good to go. This is a standard procedure for animals that are outside the vaccination and testing system, and are to be included.

The titer test for rabies is just to check the animals immune response to rabies to see if the animals immune system can neutralize rabies… it’s not to check if the dog has rabies. The dog also has its vaccinations Kinda stupid that there’s such a fuss

What's so disgusting? the fact that officers ensure that undocumented animals do not cross the EU border from a place with a high rate of rabies? Just follow the rules and nothing bad will happen to you at the border crossing.
